Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

Embargo is over. The movie awesome. Blade X should be happy it's R-rated. Once you see the movie, it works better without being PG-13. Making this movie at PG-13 would've been pointless.

What did you think of the action overall VileOne? Is it consistent throughout?

Damn, the reviews seem pretty positive, so far.

I've seen one negative review out of about 20 in the google news feed, and even that was a still a B- score.

From what i've read so far...mostly positive

Glad to be seeing all the positive reviews!

Below are just a few points I have about the movie. There are minor spoilers.

No surprise that Reynolds is awesome. Deadpool is endlessly quotable, and I loved the post-credits scene.

TJ Miller - on point. Colossus was cool, but Negasonic Teenage Warhead didn't feel necessary and felt underused imo. She does add another welcome layer personality to the picture.

Action was brutal and hilarious. The highway sequence was one of the best possible ways to introduce the character.

My biggest complaint about the film was the origin story. Their explanation of how he came to be was the least interesting part of such an unconventional movie.

Ajax was kind of lame, though Deadpool's gag joke about his real name is great.

A great start to a new franchise for Pool, Dead.

It's fairly consistent, but I would say a bit too much CG and a little too many cuts. I think it's more a result of Miller's inexperience and his video game and visual FX background.

My favorite scene is really the Deadpool Rap scene and I think that could be everyone else's.

Also yeah, Ajax is a weak villain. But you aren't really going to care. Ed Skrein made a huge mistake leaving Game of Thrones to work on that garbage Transporter reboot.

Ah Gotcha. Is the choreography pretty good? Was hoping for some Daredevil or Winter Solider type sequences.

Keep them good reviews coming and let it build the hype train!!

Redemption for Ryan, redemption for Fox and Deadpool, and man must everyone involved feel great about this picture.

I think on a pure action and choreography level nothing quite as good as the fights in that film, but the fights are good and it showcases the powers of Deadpool and Colossus very well.

comic wise its been forever since Ajax has been relevant...so I feel like he's just a means to an end bad guy. Because we all want Cable for DPII. And with Cable we can bring in the GOOD bad guys.

Yeah, pretty much exactly that. He's a weak villain, but he's the villain the story needed this time.

You needed to redo the origin after the Wolverine garbage.

Cool, good to know. Thanks man

absolutely.

He's not the villain we deserve...but he's the villain we need right now :D

Welp... Grace Randolph posted her review...

And of course she goes on to say that the R-rated content and vulgarity goes in the film's way.......... Surprising, isn't it? :cwink:
I hate how she calls Joe Kelly's run PG, and says that fans of the Joe Kelly run would've prefered a PG-13 movie, as if it were a fact. I
love
Joe Kelly's Deadpool, and have always thought that a movie adaptation needed to be R-rated to do it justice.

The bolded is a great point that many don't understand. There is absolutely no consistency when it comes to rating content for different age groups across different media. Here's an extreme example. Naruto is, at it's core, a children's series. It ran in a publication with a target demographic of "boys" (hence the word Shonen, literally boy). If a big studio did a panel for panel recreation of the manga the MPAA would take one look at the scenes of twelve year old kids getting stabbed, bloodied up, and, er, transforming into nude women (makes more sense if you follow the series) and it would be an R. The anime actually tones down the more violent scenes.

Basically, a PG-13 Deadpool could have happened, sure, but it's incorrect to say the comics never went "R rated".

Exactly. They're two different mediums. There's no 1:1 correlation. You just need a higher rating for some stuff from the comics to be shown in a movie without having to tone it down.

A movie that both features a powerful mutant in tights and contains quippy references to Juice Newton and “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret” rides a fine line in turning off comedy and comic-book fans simultaneously, but for me, “Deadpool” hit the sweet spot of entertaining violence – there’s nothing like an R-rated superhero movie to underscore the ludicrousness of this genre’s bloodlessness – and disengaging humor.“Deadpool” shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does.

Her crusade confuses me.

Surprisingly and after all the complaints....Faraci gave this a fresh review.

Whether you think it works in the end will depend on how much of the humor you like and how forgiving you are of the film’s slow deflation of style. This is one of those movies I dread putting on Rotten Tomatoes, which doesn’t allow a nuanced opinion - you loved it or you hated it! I liked Deadpool better than I thought I would, but that was a pretty low bar. In the end I respect Deadpool more than I like it - it sticks to its guns, it creates a kind of obnoxious superhero movie we have never seen before, and even though it can’t sustain its tone it can sustain its attitude. I like the ways the movie breaks the fourth wall, moments that remain unusual in multiplex movie-making. It’s completely juvenile, but how can you hold that against the film when that’s the whole point?

And concerning those 'witty' complaints that the movie should have gotten some of the marketing's budget, many fail to realize that what probably (and most logically) happened was that Fox, once they saw a raw cut of the movie, amped up their resources for the marketing, as their trust in the product had increased.

The marketing budget is probably twice the size of the film. So what? If it helps the movie make over $100 million domestic, that means we win.
