Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

Seeing this today. Can't wait. Also, quick question and I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I just thought about it today. So, will Deadpool be part of Phase 3 or is the movie totally separate? I just think it would be odd having a Phase boxset with all the Marvel movies out that year and Deadpool be the only one missing. But I think it is going to be separate? I don't see him being in Infinity War or anything. Just curious.

Damn, I can't wait to see Cable and the X-Force in Deadpool 2.

All Fox-owned properties are separate. You aren't getting Days of Future Past, Deadpool, or Fantastic Four in a boxset with Avengers and Captain America.

I think Reynolds worked his way up to being the voice I hear when i read Deadpool in the comics now. I never liked Nolan North's version, but I did like Will Friedle's.

So it looks like this movie will have a bigger opening weekend than any other X-men film. Wow

No, but I don't want any Fox boxsets anyway unless it's for the specific movie franchise. Fox doesn't really have a Phase One, Phase Two, etc.
I think they might start treating the rebooted timeline as their 'phase two' though. I think a few year down the line we won't be seeing any of the old timeline movies in the boxsets.

I think they've embraced a bit more of a long-form narrative where the movies lead to each other in a shared universe, but the Phases don't really work unless there's a team up movie. Otherwise, they're just a completely artificial dividing line for the purpose of box sets. It makes far more sense for an X-Men 1-3 Boxset, a First Class/DOFP/Apocalypse Boxset, a Wolverine 1-3 Boxset, and a Deadpool/Deadpool & Cable/X-Force Boxset.

Well, I loved it. It's what I expected and more. Already bought the soundtrack. Ryan Reyolds IS Deadpool just as much as Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark. Well done, Reynolds. :D

That would definitely work.

Yeah that works. ;)

Seeing it in 3 hours with my gf. Excited!
Enjoy! :D

Just saw it. ****ing Awesome!

Deadpool vs Ajax on a rusting Helicarrier!? That was unexpected and really cool.

I get that but it's just such an unusual thing to talk about that it seems forced. Another example of this kind of this currently in theaters which is much easier to buy is Max Von Sydow's opening line in SW7 "This will being to make things right." It works as a dig at the prequels but also in the context of the story at hand. The green/animated suit bit? I can't imagine a way that it's anything else but a total dig at the GL movie with no extra meaning in the story at hand to make it believable. Now obviously I haven't seen the movie so maybe somehow they actually made it work both ways. If so then I'll be happy to be wrong. But at this point I don't see how I can be.

Nope, I was right there is no other context to make that reference work. It's just a meta moment dangling out there before Deadpool actually acquires that ability. Kinda sloppy, I gotta say. But this is still 'continuity-shmontinuity' FOX so should we really be surprised. Just like how they seem to have removed Colossus's ability to return to human form.

Considering that Colossus had no human form to return to (this wasn't exactly paint a new skin on an actor), I'm not seeing the problem.

I am not sure why there needs to be an in story logic for what is essentially a comedy gag. It's like Family Guy, do they understand the baby or not? Depends on what the scene calls for.

16 walls man, 16 walls.

That'd be fine if it also wasn't in continuity with the rest of the X-Men movies by bringing in an X-Men character like Colossus. I'm getting mixed signals from them. Does FOX care about getting these characters accurate or not? Does FOX care about film-to-film continuity or not? Saying yes to either of these questions wouldn't make it impossible for Deadpool and this film to exist.

Why would it make it impossible for this film to exist? Fox has a completely new X-Men continuity thanks to DoFP, and this is the first film in it. There's nothing to contradict.

Continuity for different franchises only matters to OCD nerds or if there is a planned crossover. Even then, I think people place far more importance on it than the general public.

I said making these characters more accurate to their comics roots and/or caring more about inter-film continuity would NOT render a movie like this impossible, despite what some might think. It might have made this film a bit more expensive but that's it. In essence you could have your cake and eat it too on this one and still get a Deadpool movie that would be 99.9% the same movie we did end up getting.

Oh, my bad, I read that wrong.
