Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 4

Fox and Miller have long term plans for the character. The younger the better for them.

Rob Liefeld on Cable:

That was a pretty good interview. And Liefeld's confidence in the creative team gives me confidence that those same people behind the first film will have the same amount of influence and not be overshadowed by Fox trying to make creative decisions.

Singer on the Apocalypse audio commentary regarding a stinger that didn't appear but sounds like it was shot.
"We did a tag that we really couldn't do -- which I can stick on the DVD. It would have been for Deadpool, and unfortunately it wouldn't have had the right costume for the character they're going to add to Deadpool [2]. I don't want to give that away."

Was about to post that! Good that they're coordinating things there on that front, as it was probably for Cable.

I think Reynolds is hilarious, so if they can get a good script and plot together with a good mix of action, I say go for it.

Halfway through watching this again. Love it more every time I see it.

It stands up to repeat viewings so well!

Everytime I watch it it gets better. I watched in atleast 4 times, and you know what. That last time I had best experience :woot: And I feel If I watch it again I'll enjoy it even more.

Same here, I think it will stand up to to repeat viewings better than CW, which after 3 viewings I am getting a little bit fed up of already. I have watched Deadpool about 5 times and could happily watch it again.

Deadpool is a special movie. It's like one of those action-adventure evergreen. Whenever I catch a movie like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Predator, RoboCop , The Matrix - and many more - on TV, wether I've seen them 500 or 600 times, I stay on to watch the rest of it.
And for me, this one's the same. It never gets old.

 the humour holds superbly as well. With lots of other humour filled movies, the humour gets old real quick after a few viewings and it brings the movie down. IM3 and TDW spring to mind, I really enjoyed those 2 on my first viewings. Now they are my bottom 2 MCU movies.

But I am finding with Deadpool I am laughing just as much 5th time as I was the first. And even discovering new jokes along the way. This movie was just done so well.

I don't agree on Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World, as the first one's my favorite Marvel Studios movie, and the latter I've never liked, but I definitely agree on the humor in Deadpool.

I agree with you. I enjoyed IM3 and TDW the first time I watched it and it all went downhill from there.

Surprisingly, Deadpool holds up better than Civil War on repeat viewings in my opinion. That's very odd considering I like Civil War more than Deadpool.

These are possibly my 2 most rewatchable films of the year. Not getting at all bored with either of them, although I usually replay favourite parts of CW rather than sitting through it from beginning to end, and also don't watch the end every time as serious hero Vs hero is not as fun to me to endlessly rewatch.

I think CW benefits more when you have watched many of the other MCU movies recently. Deadpool however I can put on anytime and have a blast with it.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about Cable lately

Of course. Deadpool is almost a standalone despite references to X-Men. CW is an amalgamation of nearly all the heroes from the MCU to date and all their back stories are in those films and getting certain jokes and fully understanding certain relationships will depend on having seen those. It should be fine even seen without seeing those but it's definitely designed for those who have seen them.

I didn't see this film but it comes to HBO tomorrow.

 I just don't find CW as entertaining without watching some of the MCU movies beforehand at least. Before my cinema viewing I did a MCU marathon and absolutely adored CW. That was the last time I watched any of them though so I find my enjoyment lessened when watching it in isolation. It's still a great movie of course, but I find Deadpool slowly but surely over taking it as my number 1 CBM of 2016.

Deadpool is looking like it will be one of those infinitely enjoyable and replayable films. I feel like CW is just more important if that makes sense. Like if they make a 9/10 Infinity War I will prefer it to an independent film that I would award a 10/10 to.

It's cool and weird to see how different people's priorities are.

To me, a movie needs to stand and work on its own. I couldn't care less about it moving forward the 'universe story.' Which is why I never really understood the criticism of Iron Man 3 not moving forward the Marvel universe. The movie has its own (high) stakes, sets them up wonderfully, and delivers a wild ride on its own. That makes me care more about the story and the characters, as opposed to a movie which is just a small piece of the puzzle. Captain America: Civil War, for example, felt way too episodic to me to really care about it and to be able to appreciate it as much as I would've liked to as a piece of filmmaking. It felt like a big budget interlude between the Avengers previous and upcoming movies, which to me cannibalized the movie's stakes and storytelling. Which makes it a much less important movie to me, and can't stand out from being another episode in the Marvel universe series. Which is disappointing, as I really loved The Winter Soldier.

Deadpool on the other side stands on its own and works perfectly as a movie. It manages to establish a bigger world in which the X-Men live, while never losing focus from its core story.

This sums up my feelings on both movies perfectly. I still like CW a lot, but that feeling I got watching it first time is slowly fading the more I watch it due to the episodic nature of the movie. Deadpool I just love more and more as time goes on, the story has a lot more heart and feels more personal.

The heart of CW is the Cap and Bucky relationship, yet they only really get 3 main scenes together. Wade and Vanessa is much more focused and more heartfelt because of it.
