Yeah, I'm really skeptical of the idea that these decisions are motivated by their fight with Fox. They seem to me motivated by wanting publicity. Even the Fantastic Four cancellation was probably due to low interest.
Yep.

Fantastic Four and Wolverine will be relaunched eventually.

Thor got cancelled for years and Captain America got killed. Both of these characters came back.

Exactly, because, honestly, if they really thought that cancelling a comic title would have any impact on a movie they're fairly nuts. The readership for comics is less than 10 percent of the people who go to see a movie. So they'd only be hurting themselves while having to relative impact on Fox.

Bingo.

I heard someone theorize that it's a metaphorical death rather than a literal death; Wade decides to hang up the mask & stop adventuring to have a nice life with his daughter/wife for a while.

I don't care about the comics, so I don't mind if they kill off Deadpool or not.

For those who read the leaked script, how many principal/supporting characters will this film have besides Deadpool?

I haven't read it in years, but I remember there being Blind Al, Weasel, Colossus, Dr. Killbrew, I think Ajax & Wade's GF who I think is supposed to be Copycat. There wasn't much besides that it's not as cameo filled as the other X-Men movies.

Yeah, Garrison Kane, Slugo and Wyre were also there. Reese mentioned Negasonic Teenage Warhead also was in, although not in the leaked one. Think that's it.

If it's anywhere as good as the rest of their run I'm sure it will be great no matter what happens. It would actually be nice for someone to give Deadpool a happy life for once. Wade rarely gets that. Gonna be sad to see Duggan leave the run though.

Remember reading in the letter section for Deadpool not long ago that Cable and Deadpool will be seeing alot of eachother in 2015. And also a tweet between Duggan and Nicieza. Could always just be for one of the stories in that April issue, but man if we got Cable and Deadpool Vol 2 that would be friggin amazing.

Something Deadpool related is def coming from Nicieza going from those tweets in Sept...

Today was an interesting DEADPOOL day for me already before I ever heard about THIS... http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/x-men-spinoff-deadpool-gets-734172 …

Gerry Duggan ‏@GerryDuggan Sep 18
@FabianNicieza I know about that other thing - and I'm way psyched! Congrats on the film news too.

@GerryDuggan thanks, Gerry! Going to dive into your run to match tone of how you guys have been handling him!

Edit: Jordan White also just mentioned he's working on something with Deadpool and Cable, but couldn't mention anything more. http://jordandwhiteqna.tumblr.com/post/107701870600/will-there-ever-be-a-new-cable-deadpool-series

What I think it is is a big publicity stunt. The Fantastic Four hasn't been selling well for a while, so Marvel announces it's cancelling the book.

A bunch of sites give the franchise more free publicity than its had in years by having all these discussions and editorials about how this is about the feud between the MCU and Fox and how Marvel is planning to reboot the FF out of history.

Now with all eyes on the characters Marvel is going to announce a hyped up relaunch as soon as Secret Wars is over.

Isn't Deadpools current comic selling pretty well atm though?

Yeah, this is more the end of a Volume though. With the current runs craetive team likely leaving and wrapping up their arc. Marvel just announced the "Final" issues of Avengers and New Avengers. Just what happenes with relaunches now, plus Secret Wars is coming up as Mbj mentioned. Lots of characters are probably gonna die this year, another possibly just did today.

Sales wise, he sold 51k in Nov for his main series and his two current minis are somewhere inbetween 35-40k. DP ranked #2 and 4 for Marvels TPB sales overall in 2014, pretty impressive. His Diamond Select toy sells were extremely high this year as well ranking #1 qty wise and #2 dollar wise. Been very valuable to Marvel regarding publishing and merch this year.

When he is relaunched, his new #1 should easily be over 100K. The amount of Variants should also be pretty extreme and popular.

It's kind of surreal that this movie is finally happening. :)

That is great to hear. So glad it's finally moving forward.

We're actually getting this thing? I am shocked.

It is still shocking that this is happening.

Frankly I expected him to have his own cartoon series first, like on Adult Swim or Fox or whatever.

This has always felt a bit shaky, but filming starting means we can get excited! It's happening!!!

attention all deadpool fans:

The Hype's Fan Art contests are back and the Jan/Feb contest theme is Deadpool +1. Here's your chance to show us your take on The Merc with a Mouth, BUT it must also feature another character, from anywhere! the possibilities are endless! Team ups, fighting, hanging out, etc, any kind of encounter that features deadpool and another is fair game here.

There are hype-related prizes, as well as real-life prizes!

DEADPOOL
Nicknamed the "Merc with a Mouth", Deadpool is a high-tech mercenary known for his wisecracks, black comedy, and satirical pop-culture references. Like the X-Men's Wolverine, Deadpool is the product of the Canadian government's paramilitary Weapon X program, although his place of birth is unknown. After Weapon X cured his terminal cancer by implementing a regenerative "healing factor" extracted from Wolverine, Deadpool is left disfigured and mentally unstable.
(March 23 – May 29 / Release Date: February 12, 2016)

This doesn't sound like an actual plot... I mean, where would Weapon X even begin to extract a healing factor from Logan (he's not called Wolverine yet) to start with? Post-DOFP, that summary is nonsense. Unless its an OT thing, or something

Finished Deadpool's Marvel NOW! Vol 1 the other day - the comic where he gets hired to take down resurrected evil U.S. presidents. I have to say that it was unbelievably fun and after reading that and talking about it with a friend (who is a big fan) I have a much better understanding of the character. The movie could be really, really great.

Joe Kelly's Deadpool run is still the definitive take on the character for me. It was hilarious and had a lot of pathos to it also.

brian pohesn does some decent work.

Yea i read the arc when he, Wolverine and Cap go to North Korea. That was really good.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is excellent. Dracula's Gauntlet and Hawkeye Vs Deadpool have also been great by Duggan. Solid fun stuff.

Best Deadpool runs I'd say are Kelly's Vol 1, Nicieza's Cable Deadpool, Remender's Uncanny X-Force and the current Duggan/ Posehen VOL.

I do enjoy some of Way's before the later issues. Had some great Bob moments.
