I don't see how this hurts continuity at all. No one is going to care.

So it's not present? Because I don't see any other reason to recast him. That's stupid move. Cudmore should play Colossus in his late 30's/early 30's.

Why would it not be in the present because they are recasting? I'm 99.9% sure they're recasting simply because Cudmore wasn't up to the standard they were looking for with an expanded role for Colossus.

Simple as that probably.

Gambit's been recast as well. It's gonna happen more and more as this franchise gets older with characters like Emma, Warren, Psylocke etc.
Who could that character "Kathy" be? Im drawing a blank.
The guesses here are either Boom Boom or Negasonic Teenage Warhead. NTW was in the script around 2013. .

Pyro (X1) and Kitty (X1-X2) had like 5sec scenes, Cudmore in X2 had more than them. And we saw more from him in TLS and DOFP, that will be stupid if they recast.

I can imagine the GA just going bananas because this actor whose minimal screentime highlights consisted of doing buff things whilst being computer generated has been recast. Seriously guys, prepare yourselves for the biggest Internet ****storm since Batfleck. Way to screw it up again FOX! :o

Glad they are re-casting Colossus....maybe now he can be more than a glorified extra.

I am just hoping that for once they actually use the character properly. It would be nice.

Taylor Kitsch had a more developed role then him.

Colossus has zero character. We know nothing about him except he's a member of the X-Men. While it sucks this guy never really got a chance after 3 films and I'm sure he's a cool guy, it's likely what SuperT said.

Colossus was one of those peripheral characters in Singers X-series, recasting him is no biggy really as Cudmore had little/no character development in any of the other films and never seemed to be the Russian BA from the comics, more just an American youngster there for his power displays and visual appeal when in steel form.

If they develop the character more and make him more like the Russian we know and love then everyone will forget about Cudmore pretty quickly, harsh as that sounds. All depends on who they get in next of course, if even he is in this after all.

Does it really matter that Colossus is in the film or that it has any connection at all to the X-Men movies?

From the reviews I read of the script, the film's connection to the other X-Men movies is loose at best.

In the script[BLACKOUT] Colossus is keeping an eye on Wade for the X-Men. He tries motivating him to be one of the good guys. Doesn't go well...[/BLACKOUT]

He serves a purpose throughout the story. Mainly two scenes. If it wasn't him they would have to replace him with another hero.

Aww no Daniel Cudmore.

This, Cudmore as Colossus had much more of a role than previous re-casts in the franchise.

Yeah, he was just in DOFP and he was featured in posters and trailers a lot.

I don't know if they want to find a more marketable/more popular actor or they aren't just confident with Daniel Cudmore's acting ability.

I'm okay with Daniel Cudmore not returning.

I guess that he's probably not really a great actor. Outside the X men movies, his resume is not really that impressive.

He has bit parts in here and there.

I guess that's why the studio doesn't want him back. They want a better actor for the role.

I didn't mind Cudmore but it isn't like he was super memorable in the role. I think many people would barely even notice he was recast.

After he's been featured in 3 X-men movies? I really doubt that no one will notice.

While Black Widow probably could have been more Russian, I'm OK with a superspy having a flawless American accent. Besides, as shown in Agent Carter:

The girls trained in that program were trained from the beginning to blend into American culture by watching American movies like old Walt Disney cartoons.

Hopefully theyll hire a decent actor for Colossus and let him pair up with Ellen Page!

Stupid stupid stupid :doh::doh::doh:

Why even bother having the good ending in DOFP if at the first opportunity you recast? Doesn't sound like its even a huge role, and Cudmore can still play Colossus, so what's the problem? I thought you were better than this FOX

Eh. Marvel recast Bruce Banner/Hulk and James Rhodes between Iron Man and Iron Man 2. And that didn't ruin a thread of continuity.

The only impression Cudmore left with Colossus, was his imposing size and stature. Tie that in to stellar special effects in X2 and DOFP, he was fun to watch. That said, dude wasn't much of an actor. He's a physical actor, hired to be a big guy in the background. Look at his filmography. I'm not knocking him either, I think the type of work he does is important in films. But what he does isn't much more than work that body, keep that height up and be muscle. He hasn't been entrusted with much more than a line or two in this entire franchise.

So do we want an actor that can say, "Mystique" or "I can help you!" with a wavering amount of conviction? Or would we rather someone who can inflect and heck, maybe even play off of other characters? Continuity isn't scrapped when a recast is involved. I'm more in love with Colossus when he's metaled up anyway, who that metal is wrapped around doesn't matter as long as he looks the part and can act.

There is no confirmation that this movie is 2023. All of Cudmore's scenes are 2023. What if they want a more youthful guy in the role? It's not that Cudmore looks old, but it isn't necessarily a problem from a continuity standpoint.

True. I reckon they could come up with something like the mutation makes him age slower and easily put him in the 80s (Apocalypse) or Early 2000s.
