i can't believe they havent cast paul bettany yet, the guy was simply born for this role of joker. i'm so making a petition BETTANY FOR THE NEW JOKER!

well it's not like it's a slap to Bettany's face or anything. They haven't cast anyone yet (that wasn't already in the first film.)

Depp doesn't really look like the Joker at all, if you ask me. I know looks aren't the most important thing, but I want this Joker to at least be tall and lanky. His face is also too round. I have yet to see a single good Johnny Depp manip, compared to dozens of great Bettany manips and one or two good Hulme manips.

I think if they go with Depp, we'll basically be getting another Nicholson: someone who doesn't really fit the Joker, but is just being chosen because he's a well known actor at the time.

yeah you're wrong...Depp can just do things other actors can't which is why he is considered the best actor around these days...he would completley become the joker, he wouldn't act as the joker, HE WOULD BECOME the joker, if Depp gets the job he would spend the next year of production reading the joker, absorbing the joker, acting like him in every day life, he would in essence be the joker...that is how he does businees, he didn't brush his teeth or wash his hair during Pirates produciton so he could think like a dirty smelly pirate would....

i will say this again, if Depp has any interest in this role he is the choice, he is the alpha and omega of acting these days and should be the first person contacted for any role, and then go for your no names

for those who say that Bettany looks more like the joker then Depp, you are just crazy, because while at their current status it "MAY" be true, Johnny Depp dosen't exactly look like edward scissorhands, or Jack sparrow, or Raul Duke (from fear and loathing)

i'm not saying you will be regretting bettany, i just think you are missing out on sure fire fantastic joker if you don't take depp


and there was a bafoonish post where someone said Bettany is every bit as good as Depp, you are a fool, and don't deserve to post comments on actors with a comment like that...Bettany could be good, but Johnney Depp? no....Finding Neverland? or No. 1 Gangster? haha i laugh at your foolishness

Also, I'm pretty shocked that this thread hasn't been hounded by Hulme fans for the creator not adding him into the mix...

there is no need to argue (AGAIN) why Hulme is superior to any of those you've mention for the Joker (except maybe bettany, he would rock as the Joker)

It's a coincedence that you posted that picture, because when I check BOF this morning they had just posted up the Weaving rumor that came yesterday. With the rumor, they had this below it.

I think that's what Nolan has in mind as well. I mean didn't Batman and Joker start at around the same time?

All three of those candidates have great and bad characteristics that would make them the Joker.

Depp - GOOD - Amazing actor, would just absorb the role, sink into it.
BAD - Too famous of a name, probably would outshadow Christan, sorry to say.
I think Depp is the best choice is WB wants some big $$$.

Weaving - GOOD - Not as well known as Depp, and is great actor, and can jump into the role. (See: V For Vendetta, Matrix, LOTR)
BAD - He was in a comic movie already (V)

Bettany - GOOD - The least well known out of the three. Great actor, and would be a good Joker.
BAD - He just doesn't look lanky enough to me. In the pics I've seen on the boards, he looks kinda big for the Joker.

I think these 3 should really be considered by Nolan and WB. If Depp is a candidate, and he wants it, GIVE IT TO HIM.

Plus, "Batman II" would be a great title to the movie.

for Weaver thats the only bad part??? he was already in a comic book movie?? so what...
so was Mardsen the guy who plays Cyclops is also in Superman Returns

all i can say is so far Hugo Weaver is the best candidate...he has the look and grin and he can easily slip into that character...just hope his Joker laugh is as good as Nicholson's
