Who else read this issue? Was it what you expected. I have to say, that while it was a fast moving issue that went through a lot in the few pages provided it was still pretty interesting for a Chimp Detective story.

Now is the helmet of fate going to be traveling around from book to book having small cameo appearances in these various stories? That would kinda suck in my opinion. I was hoping for a bit weightier subject matter.

I thought about that too, as I read it, but I realized I didn't give a f**k--it's a story about a talking monkey detective, and that's all that matters. :woot:

No, it looks like this book will be about the Helmet seeking a new host in every issue. Zauriel gets it, too, sometime in the future.

I flippin' loved this one shot. Detective Chimp solving the initial murder with just a glance, seeing what the helmet went through on its journey, seeing DC in a Doctor Fate costume, realizing he's too much of a detective to balance out the forces of Fate's helmet, solving every unsolved crime in that precinct for the past 18 years...that was fantastic.

Willingham may do weird stuff with Batman and Robin, but give him some magic characters and he's a genius.

I'm sorry, I'm just happy Detective Chimp is a major character in the DC Universe now. How cool is that?

Just curious, What is detective Chimp in Shadow Pack? Is it just because he can talk to animals and because of his detective skills, he doesn't seem like much good in a fight.

He's the tactician of the Shadowpact. He usually comes up with the plans. He was the one who suggested to use Black Alice against the Spectre.

It was a pretty good read. It tends to contradict a lot of 52, but I'm just gonna chalk that up to magic or time-travel or multiple earths or whatev.

I checked it out because I'm going to be getting the new Dr. Fate series so I need as much help that I can get about learning the ways of the helmet. It was a really good story and it's unfortunate in a way that Detective Chimp didn't become Dr. Fate.

But I'm really confused with this story, well more confused about continuity than anything. So, Detective Chimp booted the helmet into space before 52 or AFTER 52? Because I'm guessing that these events are after 52? And there was no mention of Ralph Dibny having the helmet at all. Maybe this is before 52? I'm just really confused as to how this continuity works.

I'm thinking that Ralph either had a Fate helmet from a
Different Earth
or that it was something masquerading has the Helm of Fate, maybe Mordru or somebody...

I really didn't care for Shadowpact and I dropped it after the first arc.
