Detective Pikachu

I wanted to pet him through my screen.

Ok, I've considered how it'd be if it was a franchise I was deeply invested on and now I can see how some might find this movie and trailer to be jarring.

I still love it tho.

I can see this being a bit weird for the die hard fans
but for someone who's interest in the franchise waned many years ago, I was very pleasantly surprised by this

and I don't see any issues with the way they look, its how I always pictured they could look on film. I guess they could've gone for a short-haired dog type coat on pikachu rather than fluffy fur, but it just makes him that much cuter tbh

A bit weird they didn't have a single pokeball in the trailer..

This looks amusing but Reynold's voice is distracting. He's been everywhere as Deadpool and now it's just like I'm hearing him again.

Is it wrong that I want all the Generation 1 Pokemon to be in the movie? All of them, from Bulbasaur to Mew.
That'll be a lot of Pokémon to throw into a single movie; an ambitious desire. We know it'll include more than just Gen.1 Pokémon, maybe you'll get to see all your Gen.1 critters over the course of several films if this one does well (of which I expect it will). If they're following the game plot though, I'm not quite sure where they'd go with a sequel.

Pokeballs would imply some form of captivity I suspect and then'll have too many people complaining about how Pokémon aren't tools to be used.

Were you expecting him to be smooth? He has fur like a mouse/bunny does.

Yes he’s supposed to have fur like a mouse but he looks like a stuffed animal come to life, it’s too fluffy to me. I just thought the fur would be shorter. Jigglypuff and bulbasaur look great as does charizard.

I think Pikachu looks good. Charizard though looks like a living stuffed toy and not exactly a dragon. Thing is the pokemons seen in the trailer have a "toy look" in them.

Someone mentioned earlier about Reynold's voice being his Deadpool voice - I think it's more about the cadence of it personally. Sure his voice always has that pitch but he's using the same sarcastic and quick manner that he voices Deadpool in. He doesn't do that in every single film. I'd argue that even Van Wilder was slightly different than how he talks as Deadpool. And from the trailer, he sounds like he's voicing Pikachu in the exact same way. That's why it's distracting.

Jim Parsons is another actor that falls victim to this.

I mean everyone keeps ignoring this but this is a DP movie and that's why you hear Reynolds in his DP voice. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Well that's the concept that this franchise was built on. Has it changed? (Genuinely asking).

No Snorlax or I boycott.

I will not tolerate any disrespect to Snorlax, my spirit Pokemon. :o

Oh come on, man, I was clearly joking. :hehe:

Or was I? :ninja:

The trailer has overshadowed all the recent movie trailers..including the Toy Story 4 and Dumbo trailers....Apparently the hype is near Avengers 3 level in China. Its fair to say this is making a lot of money..

If this movie is received well (which seems likely) it could well turn into a regular franchise like Toy Story.
