I heard there's no "big bad" this season, except Dexter's own psychosis tearing him apart. It'll be interesting to watch. I always thought Rita kept him restrained a little too much, and now we'll see him, quite literally, cut loose.

Comcast has a deal at least in my area anyway of Showtime for 10 a month for 8 months. I ordered it just for Dexter as well. I don't think I will even keep it the full 8. They have really crappy movies, so it really isn't worth keeping around.

Yeah, once Dexter is done, then I'm canceling.

Just finished watching Season 4. Very well done. Too bad they killed Rita off, she should have been allowed to live. For one thing, she wasn't Trinity's type for the bathtub kill (though she does fit the profile for his jumper victim). For another, Dexter wouldn't have his name and address listed in the phone book. Police officers and CSI's keep their personal contact information unlisted for the specific reason of preventing what happened to Rita from happening to them and/or their families. Thus he never should have been able to find Dexter's house.

In the end, I so totally can't wait for next summer when Season 5 comes out on DVD.

He moreso killed Rita out of a sense of revenge against Dexter for screwing up his escape than any sort of psychological urge. Also, Trinity was in Deb's home, I'm sure he ransacked the place for any kind of info about where Dexter might be, I mean if they even sent her one letter that's all he'd need.

Kyle Butler, the real one, didn't fit Trinity's m.o. either but hey, that didn't stop Trinity from bashing his head in.

But Debra's a cop too, so her phone number and address would also be unlisted for that very reason. I happen to know several mounties, as well as municipal police, and none of them have listed phone numbers or addresses. I mean I know Dexter is a work of fiction, but suspension of disbelief can only go so far.

Thanks. And getting back to the Rita thing, yes I understand that Trinity killed her for revenge against Dexter. And I suppose he could have used his usual signature as a means of telling Dexter "I'm the guy who killed your wife". But it just seems a little too ritualistic for a revenge killing to me. And that Kyle Butler guy probably would have lived had he just let Trinity go on his way. He was just collateral damage.

My predictions for Season Five:

1) Debra learns Dexter's secret and, after some serious soul searching, decides she's okay with it (much like in the books).

2) Quinn also learns Dexter's secret and starts blackmailing Dexter. Unfortunately blackmail doesn't allow him to put Quinn on his table.

3) Asther and/or Cody begin showing early signs of becoming serial killers themselves after their mother's death, and Dexter has to decide whether or not to teach them Harry's Code and turn them into vigilantes (much like in the books).

4) Quinn becomes collateral damage, either by doing something worse than blackmail which allows Dexter to put him on his table, or he gets killed by the Big Bad of Season 5 (or Season 6, if what was mentioned above is true and there is no Big Bad this season).

5) Deb finds a new love interest, either Quinn or (in a surprise twist) Matsuda (a long shot I know, but he and Deb seemed to start to connect intelectually, which could lead to romance in the future).

The thing about Astor/Cody is they've never seen the carnage and violence first hand so I don't think they'd go down the serial killer road with them. I can see abandonment issues, but full out sociopathic behavior?

As far as I remember Debra isn't ok with it in the books. Whenever they talk about she isn't happy she just accepts it because Dexter is her brother and Harry taught him.
I'd prefer that than her to be just ok with it.

They witnessed their father beat the hell out of their mother enough times, and in the books that was enough for them to develope sociopathic behavior. I'm not 100% sure, but it may be enough in real life too. In the show, the death of their mother would just be what pushes them over the edge. The proverbial straw which breaks the camel's back.

That's just my guess anyway. Season One was kept very close to the original books. Seasons Two, Three, and Four pretty much went their own way. In Season Five, I can totally see them reverting more to the core material from the books. Maybe not as much as Season One, but on a few eliments, like Astor & Cody, or Debra learning Dexter's secret and keeping it to herself. I can totally see them doing that.

I agree with most of these. Cody already showed signs last season of being a little weird when asking about Lundy's death.

My huge prediction that I am making by not seeing any of this season yet, (duh). It is more what I would like to see. Is the season ending with Dexter on the run. Then Season 6 is him evading the bacon.

& Deborah will most def. end up with Masuka this season. They laid the seeds last season. He is the best thing for her. She doesn't need another messed up boyfriend. It is time for her to be with someone that will treat her right.

And you need to pay more attention. In the books, Cody and Astor were beaten by their father, and watched him beat and rape their mother on several occassions. On the show, they only ever knew Paul as a loving father. He did not do that stuff around them and was only abusive towards Rita. They've already explored Dexter having an apprentice. I doubt they'll do it again.

I just google'd the name of a guy I went to college with who is now a detective on the Chicago PD. Within five minutes I was able to find his address. Its not lazy writing. Its fanboys over thinking. We live in the digital age. We don't have to just look in a phone book and if they're not there then we are out of luck. There are countless ways to find someone now-a-days. And its unfair to say that last season had lazy writing when basically every complaint that everyone had seems to have been addressed in the trailer as an ongoing plot point. The writing wasn't lazy. The character Dexter was lazy as a result of trying to juggle family, his career, and his....hobby. Harry lectured him about it throughout the season. Now its all coming back to bite him. But yeah, again, not lazy writing. The character was written as lazy and reckless. Huge difference.

I'd be okay with it. Better a show ends really well before it gets lame. As much as I love this show, I don't how many more seasons they can do and keep it intriguing.

I never said the whole show would be a direct adaptation, only that they could/should adopt a few elements from the books for next season.

And you need to pay more attention. In the books, Cody and Astor were beaten by their father, and watched him beat and rape their mother on several occassions. Actually, in the show it was Astor who called the police and had their father put in jail the last time, so they witnessed more than just him being a devoted father. It's been a while since I've watched season one or read the first book, so I might be remembering some stuff wrong. But that I do remember.

And his apprentice in Season Three was already an adult with a full blown psychosis. When Harry started training Dexter to control his Dark Passenger by targetting people who deserve it, he was just a kid. There's a big difference there.

I think in the show, she'll grudgingly accept the fact that her brother is The Bay Harbour Butcher at first, because he's all the family she has left. During the course of the season she'll have a crisis of concience, debating whether or not to turn her brother in. Then by the end of the season she'll decide she's okay with it. After all, his Code has stricter guidelines than the Law she's sworn to uphold.

I always thought that they'd be a good match. Masuka's horndog personality and Deb's libido are well matched. And as you say, I think he'd treat her right.
