Dexter

I almost thought Masuka was repressing his gay feelings for guys.

They've made one or two slight of hand references to something like that.

That's a little cliche though. The horny, p*ssy obsessed guy being secretly gay. I think he's more the "horny, p*ssy obsessed guy who doesn't get any because he's a geek" type character.

Just a though I have been having. Does anyone think that the Captain Knows about Dexter? He was really good friends with his dad. I have just always wondered about that. The Captain could of just been letting him do his thing. What do ya all think?

I actually think that he is a romantic at heart that acts all horny to seem more manly amongst his peers.

I kinda doubt it. Coming down hard on Laguarta and Batista for having a romantic relationship, but letting Dex slide on being the BHB? He might debate whether or not to bring Dexter in, maybe try and convince him to give himself up. But in the end, I think he'll decide on the side of The Law. Deb, on the other hand, will probably choose the side of Justice.

Also a very valid point. I'd prefer that to "Closet case pretending to be horny straight guy" cliche.

this whole quinn vs dex thing is the biggest red herring ever. the real story is dex and julia stiles. but the quinn thing could really catch fire in the finale.

Julia Stiles is in Season 5?

Yup. Apparently an important role in Dexters life too.

Cool. I always like it when big time movie stars like Kiefer Sutherland and Glenn Close start doing TV. I'm looking forward to this season, but I don't have cable and have to wait for the show to come out on DVD in the summer before I can watch it. Therefore I try and avoid spoilers at all costs.

Great poster.

PS: And this is the first time that the first episode has not leaked!

Wait...Rita is DEAD!?

I kid.

But I pity anyone who has been living under a rock lol.

We know that she is not a love interest to Dexter but they do help one another in a different way. Episode 2 or 3's description has Dexter hiring a nanny. My guess is that will be Stiles' character.

I read that the nanny is irish, so Stiles better get practicing on her accent if that's the case.

She has been quoted as playing a "a psychologically and physically damaged woman named Lumen who presents Dexter with a dilemma. and she won't appear until roughly the 4th episode in.

But back to the whole psychologically and physically damaged part of her character. Surely Dexter wouldn't hire someone like that to look after the kids?

A nanny seems like the perfect way to retain some of the tension of having to sneak around while putting a different spin on it (i.e. since it's more out of necessity than love this time). I'm really, really looking forward to them finally tackling a story where Dex gets a bona fide ally--someone who finds out about his killing and comes to understand and accept it. It'd be interesting if Stiles' character were the one to finally do it, or even more so if Deb finally finds out this season.

I still don't know if Deb should ever find out. As much as she loves Dex, I think her world would just crumble to pieces to learn what her brother does with his nights. Her relationship with Dexter is pretty much as stable a relationship as I've seen her have with anyone, not to mention a man. Even her relationship with Harry was unstable because of how much focus he had to put into mentoring Dexter. To learn that her relationship with her brother is also secretly ****ed upside down could be alot for her to handle.

And then that rubble from her world coming down would turn to dust if she ever learns that Harry was Dexter's mentor to surviving as he is. She's kinda ****ed up as is, and to learn her father was secretly training Dex to be a stealth ninja serial killer...well, I don't think she could take it.

I guess it really depends how the writers deal with it, because they could simply write her to deal with it.

Well, yeah...they could write her this season in such a way that it would make sense. I could see that happening.

I just think that the Debra we've seen thus far, has a fragile world and her anchor is really Dexter. The scene with her after the shooting, for example, is interesting to me because the way Dexter views Deb is the exact same way Deb views Dexter. She sees herself as the shattered soul, the person who is so screwed up, and Dexter as the "normal" one that helps make her feel balanced out. Like connected to whatever she thinks "normal" is.

Which is how Dexter views her. She's really, especially now after what happened to Rita, his only connection to whatever he thinks is "normal".

I don't know how the relationship would hold if the giant wrench of Dexter's dark passenger is brought to light with her.

I think Deb's already gotten past that with Dexter to some extent. She was right there for all of the ridiculous excuses Dexter had to come up with to cover for his killing once Rita was always around. Deb started to see him as less of the perfect brother/husband/father and more like a normal human being with faults and failings. I think Deb herself has gotten a bit stronger over the seasons, too.

That's a very good point. Look at how well she handled learning that Dexter and The Ice Truck Killer were brothers.

And I don't think she will find out in the first few episodes, if it happens at all. Each season is about 12 or 13 episodes long. So if she finds out at all, it'll be gradual. She'll probably piece it together at episode #8 or so, then wrestle with her feelings about it for an episode or two, then confront Dexter about it in episode #10 or 11.

While I think she will eventually come to accept Dexter for what he is, it won't happen over night. She'll agree to keep his secret at the end of Season Five, then come to fully accept it (and possibly even throw some "work" his way) midway through Season Six.

My only question is, if Deb does discover Dexter's secret, how and why does she find out? My guess? Laguarta is still insisting that Doakes was not the Bay Harbour Butcher and asks Deb to investigate it, off the books, and try to figure out the truth. During the course of Deb's investigation, she discovers Dexter's secret and has to decide whether to turn in her brother and clear the name of an honest (if not totally by the book) cop, or maintane the "status quo" by keeping Dexter's secret.

The only issue I can see if she found out - is if she somehow links Lundy's killing to Dexter's negligence.
