I think you're wrong. I think the fact that Dexter is feeling pain over it proves his humanity. I think next season is really going to explore him finding it in spite of him trying to hide it.

I see Quinn become a friend and confidant to Dexter. That last scene with them, laid everything out. They each know what the other is (Dexter a killer, Quinn a thief) and they've reached an unspoken agreement that its okay. I think that is going to develop into friendship, and Quinn almost becoming a living representation of the man that Harry was. A good, but flawed man who cares about Dexter despite what he is. I also think the children are going to play a role in Dexter accepting his humanity. Dexter is hiding behind the mask of being a monster because he's lost two people that he loves. And its easier to seal himself off than have to deal with the pain of being human. But I think he's ultimately going to find the joy that comes along with all his human emotion next season.

Lila - she understood him but she was uncontrollable much like Miguel and was too psychotic since she did kill Doakes and tried to get cody and astor

Rita - a woman he hid his past from was still in danger from his work and ended up paying for it

Luhmen - a woman who was not psycho and knew his past and even killed with him could not be with him forever

- because unlike dexter her dark passenger was based in revenge and not permenent like Dexter who was born in blood

so he is more not gonna be so wishful on love and relationship

This was a great but heartbreaking season finale. I think I liked this season more than season 4 and I freaking loved S4 but the way I look at it as S4 & S5 was one big two-part storyline that ended tonight.

Wow, that was amazingly beautiful.

I loved it, every aspect of this season.

Plus, him saving Quinn and keeping him as an ally and a "buffer" for Deb on not finding out is smart.

Dexter has grown a lot and can't wait to see what the future will bring.

I am going to say it, JLM was better than Lithgo. Damn, that man was sick. His faces and actions toward Lumen this last episode was beyond great acting.

A well crafted and surprisingly emotional episode. Probably my favourite of what was a pretty underwhelming season overall. But it did irk me that:

Deb got THIS close to catching Dexter. And now with Quinn as a buffer between them, it's hard to see him ever being found out by Deb. I know the season wasn't exactly building to Deb finding out about him as I'd assumed it might, but it's hard to see her ever getting that close to catching him in the act again

On a more positive note, Miller gave his performance of the season, though in line with earlier criticisms I've had, his transformation was probably a tad too sudden for me. And I thought Desmond Harrington was fantastic in the finale, he's really came into his own this season, particularly in the latter half.

After 5 seasons I've become more interested in the characters and their relationship with one another than the villain plot. Jordan Chase was a great villain and gave the season a lot of tension, but I preferred moments like Dexter beating up the abusive father of Astor's friend. Or him cutting Quinn some slack for the sake of his sister. I'm aware that some viewers criticized this season for those reasons, but come on, it has been 5 years. More character development and more experimentation was needed. Last year they really pushed the boundaries with Dexter being married with kids but this year they found the right balance.

How does this police department stay funded? From the ice-truck killer to the skinner to Trinity to Jordan Chase, they never catch anyone. "Oh well... some mysterious vigilante beat us to the punch again! lol"

deb almost catching dexter

was such a tease; the show needs something new. it's become far too convenient for these things to happen, and the show is becoming insanely predictable. i didn't watch the season at all until two days ago and watched the entire season in the time since; i was hoping they'd finally do something novel after a few seasons of the same plot and came away disappointed.

at this point it's side story with children/family, find murderer of the season, kill him, almost get caught, etc. but just with a few new players. last season definitely had a different end, but i'm disappointed they went back to their tried and true formula with a relatively happy ending.

great finale but the ending was bittersweet

it was great that Deb and Quinn are together and that the kids are back in Dexter's life, but it's sad that Lumen couldn't stay with Dex. when Lumen said she had to leave, you can tell by the look on Dexter's face that he was hurt/sad. over the course of the seasons, he has been turning more and more human in having more emotions and feelings. Dexter is definately growing as a human being, but it's a shame that the woman understood him and helped him evolve couldn't stick around. i hope we see Lumen again in the future.

after Deb let Dexter and Lumen go and she had her talk with Dexter right before he was going to analyze the blood on the show, i sort of had a feeling that Dexter would botch the results to get Quinn off the hook. and i was right that right there wasa turning point for both Quinn and Dexter. i think next season Quinn, being pretty grateful that he was let go, will become pretty close with Dexter and possibly help him out of a jam.

next season is going to be interesting

the only thing that bugged me is, that quinn is somehow not the prime suspect for the liddy case anymore...

dex did something with the blood - ok. but what about the phone calls and the surveillance equipment, which was taken under his name !?

i didnt get that at all...

and does he know that dex killed liddy or are they now "friends"

it hinted that quinn likely knows dexter killed liddy, but is going to let him off the hook for now, because quinn was aware dexter could have easily thrown him under the bus with the blood evidence.

Also the equipment in his name, phonecalls, etc is all circumstancial, no hard evidence. the blood would have been the only thing to keep him locked up.

The finale was amazing, even though the end was heartbreaking... Hopefully Dexter will become "human" too when the series will end (at Season 7 or 8 or so..)! I hope Dexter and Quinn will also become buddies in the following series and it's great to see that Deb is finally happy too and that things are ok now between LaGuerta & Batista!

I can't wait for the 7th Season and unlike others, I still think this show is top-notch quality!

It was a great finale... it's just I really really REALLY want Deb to find out, and I honestly think that would have been the perfect moment to do it, right when she would actually understand it.

So for me it was that little bit dissapointing.

Plus, i'm not sure how I feel about Lumen leaving straight after... and no longer being 'broken'... what happened to 'killing someone changes you'? I really don't see how it's that simple, that if you kill the people that hurt you, then your fine...

Maybe she'll come back with a cameo next season, and it'll turn out she hadn't really got over it.

As usual, Dexter delivers a great finale. Although, i cant help but feel a little disappointed. There were some missed opportunities here. [BLACKOUT]Deb finding out about Dex was SUCH a tease. I was like COME ON!![/BLACKOUT] Maybe after last season's finale the writers are scared of taking risks. And how did all of a sudden [BLACKOUT]Lumen's dark passenger just up and disappear?[/BLACKOUT] Damn that was fast. And man, Quinn [BLACKOUT]is off the hook just like that? I was hoping that storyline would play out more through next season. [/BLACKOUT]

But those are all nitpicks and i still loved the finale. Michael C Hall once again demonstrated his greatness as an actor. The scene where [BLACKOUT]Lumen broke up with Dex, you could practically see Dex's heart breaking in two and Dex trying so hard to hold it in.[/BLACKOUT] Hall really played the hell out of that scene. I really hope [BLACKOUT]she returns somehow.[/BLACKOUT]

Overall season 5 has been OUTSTANDING imo. If the finale had a bit more "punch", this could've easily been my favorite season of Dexter.

Well, the Skinner they did catch, they just thought they killed him in a police ambush, when Dexter threw his body out in front of a police car. They believed Doakes was the Bay Harbor butcher, and they had his body. Who cares if he goes on trial or not. If anything, all the better, less money they have to spend. Ice Truck Killer, as far as they're concerned, killed himself. The barrel girl case has been the only one they ever really attributed to any sort of vigilante. They don't always need to catch the dude in cuffs.

This episode was pretty damn fantastic, the thing that kind of hurt it was Lumen's dark passenger up and leaving just in time for the season to end even though half of her entire character arc was about she had been fundamentally changed.

Killing his mother's killer didn't "cure" Dexter and it shouldn't have "cured" Lumen. Damn bastards.

On a happier note the entire ending at Harrison's birthday party was emotional and well-acted, this episode could have honestly served as the series finale if they wanted it too.

I'll say ... Because they actually never do (or practically never). The Miami prison system must be emptier than Quinn's head. These police reports must read like farce comedy: "Officer Conners hit the skinner with his car by accident. Case closed."

Anyway, I know it's a necessary conceit for the series. I'm just bitter because the finale was predictable and boring. I liked the earlier episodes of this season (especially around ep 6 -10 or so), but this was a by-the-numbers wrap-up with no surprises or changes in the status-quo. Deb should have found out Dex was the bay-harbor butcher tonight. It would have been ballsy and would have shaken up the status-quo in an interesting way, opening up new story possibilities (kinda like the same way Walter White's wife found out he was a crystal-meth kingpin on 'Breaking Bad' made the series better than ever).

Maybe, but we can't really compare Lumen to Dexter. Dexter's "Dark Passenger" has been part of him his entire life. As long as he can remember, he's been someone who just likes killing. His entire development revolved around it. By the time he tracked down his mother's killer, he was already far gone, having killed upwards of 30 some odd people beforehand.

Lumen had lived normally to full adulthood, before Jordan and the boys got to her.
