Superman Returns Did Lex's plan make sense to anyone?

You know, I made a thread exactly like this months ago predicting the nonsensical real estate plot and I was laughed at and lambasted by people on this forum.
And it hasn't changed, you're still a joke!

you guys give too much emphasis on money. money is not the driving force behind economics. it is a representation of what really is - valued resources. econnomics is making desicions with limited resources, so if there wasn't money, the economy would still work in a very similar way. be it with gold, diamonds, land, water etc.... whatever is limited. the more limited the more valuable.

now im not defending lex's scheme, but i think it works from a thematic standpoint. lex steals supermans birthright, recreates the home superman lost, except that superman can't survive within this new krypton. so superman is again exiled from his home. thats pretty kosher.

in theory, yes it does work. in the sense superman being unable to survive it. YET. the movie blows that out of the water by having superman carry this kryptonite island into space. this completley ruined the film for me. esspecially when he had a kryptonite shard still in him when he did this feat. what were the film makers thinking. and how can people overlook this fundamental flaw.
he couldnt even take a krypton necklace off while drowning in a pool in the 1st film., yet he can carry an entire kryptonite island while stabbed with it in SR. so much for lex's plan.....
terrible.

the sense of superman's will and heart to lift nk outof earth to not only save them but he KNEW he would die trying..hence goodbye lois...i dont see how this flies over peoples head....as for lex plan..it worked..to a degree..hellif it wasnt for lois supes would be dead fish...but i i dont see why people couldnt grasp the theme of lifting nk to show his WILL, HEART, POWER, to save those people..but no..they have to analize every SMALL thing they see..smh..no wonder.

Lex Luthor should`ve used the kryptonian technollogy and become the BEST VERSION OF THE character. The billionaire tycoon, creating Lexcorp, using the technollogy to make people`s doubts about Superman`s actions, making the theme of the movie more cohesive and understandable. Superman Returning to a world that has learned to live without him. No. Now Luthor is a more serious Dr Evil. Just terrible.

thats exactly what i thought the story would be about. this coincides with the themes the movie was supposed to explore and makes far far more sense than the ridiculous plot we got. i cannot understand how the writers could get this so wrong. this movie was a big dissapointment. because of the terrible script.

Luthor and his "great plan" ruined the movie for me. I thought Supes was great and the Lois/Supes stuff was good. I even liked the Jason storyline. Everything envolving Lex just plain sucked for me.

Yes, and let's not forget. Lex Luthor is crazy. Doesn't matter if it's Post-Crisis this or Silver Age that. Luthor always thinks beyond what's practical. Remember that stupid flying car promise during his presidential campaign? This is Post-Crisis Luthor. He promised to cut down on fossil fuels so everyone could have a flying car. Now do you realize how crazy and foolish he is? :down

sometimes logic goes out the window in order for film makers to keep their themes strong. (ex. in Matrix 3 - why do the machines feel the need to pantamime a face? answer - its some half assed homage to the wizard of oz and all his hot air. regardless, it was dumb) but the point is that they felt it to be more dynamic to have superman make a desicion to do this (again sticking with themes. he went searching for his home, now its on earth, and now he conciously gets rid of it) rather than to have it decay on its own or something. him making that desicion is the important part. him personally getting rid of it is the key.

This may have been noted already, but what really bugged me was the ease with which Luthor enters the Fortress of Solitude and operates a Kryptonian control panel to learn from the projection of Jor-el.

First, the fact that Superman's Fortress has always been well fortified against intruders (in pre-crisis, only Supes was able to open the massive gate using a giant key only he could lift) has always been one of its main characteristics and it makes no sense whatsoever that this Superman leaves it completely unguarded.

Also, in view of the high level of Kryptonian technology, I would have thought the Fortress controls would only respond to Kal-el -- that Jor-el would have had the forsight to make it impossible for humans to control the Fortress and the crystals in the way Luthor did.

Indeed.I can imagine some facts from the previous movies and comics were ignored,if one was to really think about the plan.It did not make some sence.

Luthor was going to destory most of America and sell his land to them, right?

With America underwater surely the American currency they would pay him with would be worthless!?!

Just how would people survive on this island with no water supply, no food, no living quarters?

How was Lex planning to live on this thing?

What would have stopped the US Government dropping a nuclear weapon on him while he sat around playing cards?

Lex's pal with the laptop - What was he going to use for electricity when the battery went?

When they needed supplies were they just going to fly back to America and leave the island unprotected?

And just why did he have to wait until Gertrude was dead to exercise this "great" plan?

He could have just stolen the boat and gone to get the crystals a lot earlier than he did.

He didn't actually buy anything with the money - His goons just stole everything.

So other than testing the crystal in the basement I can't see why he waited around, sleeping with an old woman to get some money he didn't even use.

Did Lex's plan make sense to anyone?

It was one of the most idiotic plans I have ever heard of.

The plan actually sounded really ambitious to me at first. Creating new land, killing lots of people, the 'advanced alien technology'... but after Lex and his goons beat the **** out of Supes and were just sort of hanging around the barren rock, I started to think, "What is the point of all of this?" Was Lex going to sell the land or something?

Yes, because one of Superman's powers is the "heart" to ignore the effects of Kryptonite, right?

Man, these people who don't grasp the fact that BS SHOWED that Kryptonite makes him powerless not 15 minutes before he lifted NK, somehow think THEY are more "enlightened" than everyone else.
