So...
He's going to grow land from the crystals. The result of which, will raise the water level and drown all other continents. And if anybody comes after him he has super-advanced alien technology...?

Ok, so why grow a bunch of ugly black rocks that you can't even grow anything on? Also, what if the army (which, by the way, where the hell was it?) or marines had come after Lex? What defense or offense did he have? And after they grow the first big New Krypton, they sit around and play cards? Lex smokes a cigar? What? So, Lex and his three henchman were going to destroy the world?

I actually really liked the movie, but Lex's plan was just the dumbest thing ever. I hope someone can explain it to me.

Some people here loved Lex's plan, some felt it was idiotic.......

A kryptonite laced land mass is a lot safer than a yacht.

Ok, i'll try to explain it.
Lex is desperate for money.
If he grows the land, eventually it will erode and vegetation will begin to grow. For all we know, the crystals have an acelerated rate of erosion and deposition. and Kryptonian vegetation could have grown as well.
If that land takes over the world, Lex will be the one controlling it, he will be in control of the world then.

What I got was...he grows land, destroys America, and people who are displaced will buy land from him on NK.

Now, his reasoning didn't make sense to me. Kill billions of people (mostly in America)...and you kill off most of your target demographic, idiot!!! Why didn't he just put it in the Pacific so he could have that land, but not kill as many people?

Yeah, that would have made more sense if he grew it in the Pacific.

You know, Lex's plan was genius......yet stupid at the same time!

I mean growing a whole continent which Superman has no powers on- GENIUS!

Consequences of that- Uhh, im thinking too deep but man those consequences are stupid...hes gonna kill people and if any survive, hes gonna make them pay for property? And like you said, he cant grow anything on it, they have no source of food or resources, and no defenses.

I was one that thought it was idiotic. Just an attachment to the Donner films and Hackman's "real estate" Lex character. It would have been better to make him more of a post-crisis Lex, rather than a one dimensional raving lunatic.

Luthor to me was the worst part of the movie. I hope we get a real supervillain in the sequel. Brainiac or Metallo, please!!!

With what? There is no more economy, Lex just sent the whole world back into the dark ages. The plan was stupid.

I just don't understand how he kept saying he was ready if anyone came after him.

it was just him! And three guys! What?? Did they even have a bazooka or rocket launcher or something? What alien technology would stop a fleet of police choppers from landing and taking Lex in?

If he was just building a secret hideout in the ocean somewhere, then a kryptonite-laced island would be brilliant. But this was his plan! Did they even have a roof? He's lucky some of the crystals formed a makeshift staircase!

A huge wasted opportunity. Why not make LexCorp, use the technollogy to help people, making people doubt Superman`s actions? That would be cool to see and a real great moral dillema for Superman and more in tune to what Singer wanted to pass with his plan. No. Instead we got the stupid pre-crisis Lex :down This is what makes the movie not perfect to me.

Not at all. The point is to take out America so the rich are forced to purchace land on NK.

^^Stupid nonetheless. Why not make a company, sell the technollogy to people, instead of being the ALL evil LEx.

man you got that down, now if he used the crystal in the movie gave it to kal penn his so calle dscientist to harnes the tech, which liek you said he could use to build lexcorp and help people, then rue Lois article a world without superman will make some damn sense. from there you can lay the seeds of brainiac for the sequel

So close to perfection...so close...i just felt so disappointed by Luthor...And i thought Kevin Spacey was great but Luthor was so terrible written...god... :(

I didn't understand how he would have access to alien technology, was it going to pop up and grow on this new continent?

At first I think his plan was a land scam but then I think it became something much more.

I think in the end it wasn't about the land, but about using Supermans own technologies against him and making it kind of ironic that Superman went into space to find Krypton when Lex was "making it" on Earth anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say was that it was never about the land, more about Lex getting his revenge and leaving a mark.

Heres the logic of the plan:

- Kryptonite in the SR verse isnt lethal to humans (the science of Superman special explained that.......it only harms Superman)....like before the Bryne days.

- The land mass looked alien and raw, yes....but what'd you expect? Even the real continents of the Earth started out raw but Luthor would obviously have it made habitable, whether its underground or above ground real estate.

If they can make a colony like Utopia Planetia on Mars in Trek, this could definately work......would require the world's money and power though.

- There would still be a vast majority of humans and governments alive after the continent forms. North America would be pretty much half destroyed....but Luthors map showed the rest of the world perfectly intact.

- Using the knowledge from the Kryptonian crystals, which explained the technology of the Fortress and whatnot. Lex had access to the alien technology he needed to defend himself and New Krypton.

Basically his plan was to bring the world to its knees so hes elevated to a position where hes the only supplier of the 'fire' to the people and everyone is at his mercy.

Probably would have worked if not for Superman.

^^Nice explanation but too comic booky, pre-crisis, ridiculous, stupid. Sorry but thats just isn`t the Luthor i know.

Wrong.

If it wasnt for Supes the plan would have actually worked. Lex even escaped...well sorta. Superman saved the earth but didnt capture him.

I duno, I'd rather see Lex as more of a tyrannical terrorist that he was in SR than the business man (which the DCAU already did)...

This was a brand new Luthor for me. He had the instability and humor of the precrisis....but definately the repressed evil and sadistic nature of the post.

He definately let go of his restraints in the confrontation with Supes.

How can you like dog eating dogs, licking dead lady fingers, luthor without gas on the island, him wearing stupid wigs is beyond me....
