Die Hard 5

I definately wouldnt say DH4 was a disgrace to the series, again I really enjoyed it, probably the 3rd best movie of the franchise for me behind 1 and 3 respectively. Wiseman surprised me a lot with DH4 in how good it was, remember it was Fox who wanted the PG-13 rating, Wiseman shot it as harder than that hence the unrated version.

This 5th movie just sounds awful though, everything about it just reaks of an awful movie.

Yeah they should of kept McClaine in America, not going international and all. DH5 could of taken place back in NYC or LA.

This might be like the 'Diamonds are Forever' of the franchise.

Its a shame what age did to this guy.

We all age, but Bruce just got old.

Regarding the film, I really think its a mistake to keep going with this character. They shoulda left it at the third film, Live Free or Die Hard was a joke.

Frankly, everything in this fifth outing sounds worse.

I'm also not crazy about Willis' involvement in Expendables 2 & G.I. Joe 2. I haven't been able to take the guy seriously since The Sixth Sense.

Unlike Stallone who still commands the screen at 65, Bruce just looks outta place in action films.

you can blame Fox for Willis aging by takign too long to release Die Hard film.

A 12 year gape between Vengeance and Live Free and six years between Live Free and Die Hard 5. I wouldn't be surprised if the six and final film comes out seven years after that.

The thing about Bruce now is that he's just a different actor now than he was 15 years ago.

Exactly. He's like Pacino, DeNiro, Freeman, Nicholson. He just doesn't try anymore.

I never considered Willis to be in the same league as any of those guys anyway. :o

He's not, but he had that everyman quality about him that separated him from Arnold and Sly. (Even though he didn't start out as an action star. More comedy)

But like with those older actors, they are just stuck in the comfort zone. They're stuck in their ways where they're almost shells of their former selves. Keep in mind I like them all, and I would say Morgan is the lesser of the rest.

Actually, its the opposite.

He tries too hard to make himself believable as the badass that he once was & fails miserably.

Unlike Clint Eastwood & Mel Gibson who play down their image by making fun of their older selves, he literally tries to sell himself the same way he did in the 80s & 90s.

In '88, he was a bad mother****er. That was the undeniable truth.

^I first saw that picture in a magazine back in '88 & then realized I needed to see the movie asap. Before that I just knew him as the guy from Moonlighting.

When I left the theatre after watching Die Hard, I was pretty much in the zone for a good 3 days. The guy was just such a badass.

Last movie he did whilst still carrying the "badassness" was Fifth Element. Again, what a badass.

Now he's just old man Willis that refuses to chill with the action man antics. Hostage, Sin City, Live Free or Die Hard, The Surrogates, Red, G.I. Joe 2, The Expendables 1 & 2, Die Hard 5....

Give it up, Bruce. You were great, let's not ruin that.

Actually, its the opposite.

I actually wasn't talking about the badassery. I was talking about his acting itself. If you notice, after 1999-2000, the vast majority of his roles is him smirking, always calm and with his eyes half closed. Just like Pacino is yelling, DeNiro has that bulldog face thing going on, Freeman is the kind smiling cool guy, Connery was the smartass and Neeson was that wise stoic guy. At least Neeson has started trying to be an action movie star, which is refreshing to see.

Whatevs. Those guys by their age are probably thinking, "**** it. I've done everything an actor can achieve, won Oscars, been in big successes, critical acclaim, etc. I still want to act, but I'm not the younger man I was to get into the nitty gritty so I just want to have fun and be home at a certain time."

I don't really see anything wrong with that. I appreciate actors who don't take themselves too seriously with every role they play.

He was actually great in Sin City. Because it had that "meta" element. He was playing a broken down former bad ass cop with angina. Great role for him.

I really see no problems with Sly and them still being action movie stars because in a way they are still badass. But like someone said at the sametime they are older and just want to have fun and still make alot of money.

Spammity spam with a slice of spam.

That looks so fake it's not even funny. And the actor that plays the son in the trailer doesn't even look like the actor they cast to play him.

Nice trying to get your 15 minutes of fame, but it didn't work. Go get attention somewhere else.

Now, onto some legit news.

The movie has begun filming in Budapest. Willis doesn't start until May.

20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman Talks A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD; Says John McClane’s Son Is “A Badder Ass Than John McClane”

After 12 years, the Die Hard series returned in 2007 with the first PG-13 entry in the franchise, Live Free or Die Hard. The film did considerable business, and so development began on Die Hard 5. After a long director search, Fox finally settled on John Moore (Max Payne) to helm the pic, which now finds Bruce Willis’ John McClane in Russia and teamed up with his son, played by Jai Courtney (Spartacus: Blood and Sand).
Steve recently sat down with 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman at CinemaCon, and during the course of their wide-ranging conversation the executive spoke quite a bit about the story of A Good Day to Die Hard and what makes the film different from other entries in the franchise. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Steve asked Rothman what he could tell us about the story for this fifth Die Hard, and Rothman responded by talking about what sets the film apart:
“I love this one. It’s called A Good Day to Die Hard, and two things make it new: 1. John McClane, the ultimate American hero, goes to Russia. So talk about a fish out of water, he’s completely out of water. And 2. It’s really a father-son story, which is that John McClane’s been a great cop his whole life but he’s been a pretty lousy father. He has a grown son who he’s not really been in much touch with, and McClane thinks the son’s a **** up—that’s a technical term.”
So what brings everyone’s favorite hardened cop to Russia? His son, of course:
“So he goes to Russia, he thinks, to bail his son out of jail, and it turns out the son’s not a **** up, he’s the antithesis of that. In fact, the apple has not fallen far from the tree, the apple has not fallen from the tree, which is that the son is a badder ass John McClane than John McClane.”
Essentially the set up is that McClane reunites with his estranged son, who turns out to be John McClane 2.0. As far as the villains go, Rothman said The McClanes make quite a few enemies overseas:
“It comes to the point in the story where they’re basically the most wanted men in the entire Soviet Union, and it’s the two of them against all of the bad guys. I’ve just gotta say, it’s a classic, classic Die Hard
Though I was really hoping to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead return as McClane’s daughter from Live Free or Die Hard, it sounds like they may possibly be setting the franchise up for a new lead in the future. Given that McClane’s son is “a badder ass than John McClane,” I could see Courtney being poised to lead the series in a few years with Willis taking a smaller role in subsequent installments. Fox took their sweet time settling on just the right actor to take the McClane Jr. role, so hopefully Courtney impresses when the release date rolls around.

If you missed any of our coverage from the rest of Steve’s conversation with Rothman, be sure to check out his comments on a New Mutants movie, the Prometheus rating, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, and updates on Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Chronicle 2. Look for more from Rothman here on Collider soon.

Another hint at the fact they may be retiring McClane and going with his kid for any future movies

Badder ass sounds dumb. Shouldve used bigger bad ass.

Hmm, looks pretty Die Hard to me compared to the white, generic font from the last one.

I actually like all the info so far,I'm cool with the title&like that logo/I don't have a problem with John going to Russia&never did(Although I'd still prefer an american city)/I've wanted John's son involved since the third one/Jr also being a bad a** is cool..However one thing that worries me out of everything so far is that I'm hoping Jr/Jai don't upstage Bruce much!!

As for Bruce's age&his acting..I don't give a ***** about age/I still think he looks good/I still think he's bad a** and still a darn good actor at times!
