it would be great if he was wearing a hair piece. he had it for Sin City. but in hollywood actio mvoies bald means weak. to bad.

Where the heck did this come from?

"The Shields" Chikalis made it badass to go bald

And for the screen test photo is Willis dressed in his GI Joe clothes?

Maybe it's the appearance of another brown jacket

Wonder if they're looking to have McClane Jr take over from his dad in any later movies?

it's not the same jacket...and it's just a screen test. I'm sure that's not movie wardrobe, but probably his own jacket

'Die Hard' Casting Drama: Five-Month Search to Find Bruce Willis' Son

'Spartacus: Vengeance' star Jai Courtney beat out Liam Hemsworth and Aaron Paul for the meaty role, as 20th Century Fox scrambled to agree on a suitable (and available) candidate.

This story originally appeared in the March 9 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

On Feb. 22, when Jai Courtney landed the role of John McClane’s son in A Good Day to Die Hard, it marked the end of an unusual five-month search that illustrates the challenge of casting major franchise movies.

In November, 20th Century Fox, director John Moore (Max Payne) and star Bruce Willis thought they had their finalists in Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, Contraband) and James Badge Dale (Shame, The Pacific). But chemistry reads with Willis left the filmmakers unable to settle on a choice for the meaty role in the Moscow-set actioner, so additional actors were tested in December.

Part of the problem, according to sources close to the project, was that Fox, Moore and Willis each had their own idea about who should play the part. Willis pushed for D.J. Cotrona, with whom he stars in this summer’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation and who screen-tested at least twice. Hemsworth, who co-stars in this summer’s Expendables 2 with Willis and is about to become a big star in The Hunger Games, was a favorite throughout the process, but the studio was concerned about pairing him or Cotrona in a second action movie with Willis.

Courtney, a star of Starz’s Spartacus: Vengeance with little film experience, came to the fore in late January when buzz began to build about his work as the villain in next winter’s Tom Cruise thriller One Shot. Soon it was down to Courtney and fellow Aussie Hemsworth — but even then, the studio put the duo on a 10-day hold to conduct a last-ditch search in Australia. (Fox didn’t like that One Shot is due to open a week before the Die Hard film next February, worrying there might be confusion in the marketplace.)

When Fox finally got over that fear, Courtney received an official offer. But by then, the studio’s option had lapsed and Courtney had moved on, taking a supporting role in the monster movie I, Frankenstein.

Producer Lakeshore Entertainment wasn’t about to let him go, so Fox — facing the prospect of starting the process over — booked a new round of tests, only to scrap them and quietly negotiate with Lakeshore. Once the schedule issue was resolved, Courtney was again offered the part, catching even the actor’s reps at UTA and the Collective by surprise.

Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir Join A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) and Russian actress Yulia Snigir have joined Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) in A Good Day to Die Hard. The latest installment in the Die Hard franchise will reportedly take place in Moscow with John McClane and his estranged son Jack (Courtney) trying “to keep each other alive and the world safe for democracy.” Remember when McClane was a police officer trying to stop criminals? Yes, they were super-criminals, but his mission didn’t involve saving the world. According to Variety, “Koch will play Komorov, while Snigir will play Irina. Both roles are believed to be villainous in nature.” Seriously, does anyone consider Russia a threat anymore? Are McClane n’ Son trying to stop the Red Menace?

John Moore (Max Payne) will direct from a script by Skip Woods (Hitman). A Good Day to Die Hard is slated to open on February 14, 2013.

Max Payne and Hitman movies in the same sentence? Not looking good...

There could be no worse possible team behind this project. I have no faith at all. Nobody ever understood McClane more than McTiernan. Wiseman brought the character to his knees and an even worse director, Moore, will finish him. And Willis just says "yes". Great.

As far as I'm concerned, there are 3 Die Hard movie: DH, DHwaV and the Last Boy Scout as the only plausible (so far) conclusion to McClane's story.

I actually thought the 4th movie was decent, was better than the 2nd one for me especially the unrated cut, but yeah McClane isnt exactly a cop any more who finds himself in ridiculous situations, he is more like a super-hero and that was never what the character was about.

I'm not sure which one I despise the least, DH2 or DH4. I'm going to go with DH2, since it was before 1996, where Willis turned to his now-standard smug smirking self.

Well.... i'm still looking forward to this.... even if everyone else has given up on it....

Its a shame what age did to this guy.

We all age, but Bruce just got old.

Regarding the film, I really think its a mistake to keep going with this character. They shoulda left it at the third film, Live Free or Die Hard was a joke.

Frankly, everything in this fifth outing sounds worse.

I'm also not crazy about Willis' involvement in Expendables 2 & G.I. Joe 2. I haven't been able to take the guy seriously since The Sixth Sense.

Unlike Stallone who still commands the screen at 65, Bruce just looks outta place in action films.

The worst thing about Willis's age is that he tries too hard (Try Hard?) to hide it. Had his appearance in DH4 been of similar mentality to that in 16 Blocks, I guarantee you he would've been an even bigger badass than he was in DH, always in terms of appearance.

But to do that he needs to ACT like McClane, which he doesn't. He always acts like a less comedic version of the characters he played in Friends... which is not and never will be McClane. God, that smirk he has been acting with the past 13 years...

And yes, DH4 was a bad joke, not even of Terminator 3 quality, which was at least enjoyable as a parody. DH4 was new age crap (aka Wiseman), and the characterization was all wrong. Everything was boring, including the action (again, Wiseman). As many have said, it didn't feel like a DH flick, which is understandable, as they based it on the modernization of a novel (A Farewell to Arms?) and turned to a McClane story late in the game. At least Hensleigh's script was properly turned to a DH screenplay in time. Perhaps, PERHAPS, DH5, with an original story could be better. But with those screenwriters and a director worse than Wiseman? Naaaah.

I haven't been able to take the guy seriously since The Sixth Sense.

Unbreakable was his best performance onscreen, even if you don't like the film, I don't see how you could not take his performance in that film seriously.

and fwiw I thought the 4th Die Hard was very enjoyable.

LFODH was awesome and the only one of the sequels I have really loved, but each to their own I guess. I don't see anything good in store for this one with Moore at the helm.

Has Patrick Stewart been confirmed?

]Unbreakable was his best performance onscreen[/B], even if you don't like the film, I don't see how you could not take his performance in that film seriously.

Die Hard takes the cake for me, with Pulp Fiction coming in second & The Fifth Element third.

He was never a great actor, just fun to watch. Now its just getting sad.

His 'old man of action who is past it' role in Sin City was pretty good, and he was fine in DH4 I thought.

There have been many actors who were not exactly versatile, but their given persona brought something to the screen that people caught onto in a big way, Humphrey Bogart was like that, and I remember Frank Miller describing Willis as the HB of his time when he was cast in Sin City, so I guess that is what he meant.

I don't recall any other recent roles of his I have seen, if any, so can't really comment on what he's been doing in the last few years.
