According to wikipedia(not the best of sources i know) he "died" in an explosion, before the first shootout. So yeah that's easy to fix

Borys Kit said:
Ericson Core has signed to helm "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," Columbia's third installment in the action franchise. Neal Moritz and Joe Roth are producing.

Vin Diesel is reprising the role of the extreme sports athlete-turned-government operative he originated in the 2002 movie directed by Rob Cohen. Diesel and Cohen skipped the 2005 sequel, "XXX: State of the Union," which starred Ice Cube and was helmed by Lee Tamahori.

Last year, Diesel and Cohen agreed to reteam for the new installment, but in June, Cohen segued to helm "Medieval" for Regency.

Columbia went on the hunt for a helmer, who also had to get the OK from Diesel. Diesel has worked with Core before, though not under an actor-director relationship; Core, a cinematographer-turned-director, worked as DP on Diesel's 2001 flick "The Fast and the Furious."

John Brancato and Michael Ferris ("Terminator Salvation") wrote the script for "Xander Cage." It involves Cage's return to the National Security Agency after an eight-year absence. Richard Wilkes, who wrote the original movie, did a recent polish.

The studio hopes to move fast, capitalizing on Hollywood brand hunger and Diesel's resurgence as a boxoffice draw, and aims to roll cameras early next year.

Core, repped by Gersh, made his directorial debut with the 2006 football drama "Invincible." He's attached to direct the coming-of-age thriller "Conrail" at New Line and the Touchstone war thriller "Liberty."

Diesel sure loves to ditch a franchise the rejoin it later on

I think that is more to do with the studios saying "We are not paying you that much, we will just recast", the Un-Diesel sequel tanking and sucking, then they come back and pay the man to return.

Say what you will about the guy, given the franchise, he can reinvigorate it. I just want to see more Riddick films myself.

So it's being directed by a first time director and it's being written by the "Terminator Salvation" writers? Yeah, this should be interesting...

its not a first time director...didn't the article say he directed the movie Invincible?

It will probably suck, but it can't be any worse than the one with Ice Cube. That might have been the worst movie I've ever seen. At the very least, it was the worst movie I've ever seen from a major studio (although Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li comes close).

This has never been a quality franchise...

I'm sure there are some polished turds out there you have not seen yet. The 80's alone were good for that.

Yeah but the difference is, most of those 80's movies that you speak of were funny bad. I'm sure that wasn't what they were aiming for, but somehow I was able to find enjoyment in laughing at how terrible they were.

The problem with movies like XXX: State of the Union was that not only were they bad, they were also boring and damn near painful to sit through.

Maybe they should not copy from 80s action movie formula anymore.

:o

Oh come on. Paul Walker deserves some credit for being able to deliver lines like "I like the tuna" with a straight face.

Of course, that may be because he's incapable of any other expression...

XXX 3D with Vin Diesel and being directed by Rob Cohen? No word on Ice Cube!

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest 3D announcement - which came via Variety refugee now-Deadline writer Mike Fleming. If you click that link - you'll find the return of Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) along with the knowledge that Nick Fury, SAM 'The Man' JACKSON, will come back as his awesome Augustus Gibbons.

Interestingly enough - it seems the project is in the midst of moving from Columbia to Paramount - for release late next year - or - early 2012. The idea is to shoot the film with 3D cameras from the very beginning to avoid the eye rape of the post-process that CLASH OF THE TITANS is currently offending the eyes of cinema goers everywhere. To tune up for the gig, Rob is apparently shooting the first 3D COKE commercial - no word on if the Coke that pours out of your screen will retain its secret ingredients.

So - are you happy to hear Vin is back. Do you miss Ice Cube? Or do you wish Vin would just make NEVERWHERE?

I've got the perfect title:

XXX: TRIPLE D

When the hell is Diesel going to do the Hannibal movie? I am sure there is some director with talent that would warm up to that movie. If this is the pattern he follows, I am sure more Riddick movies will be on the way. Two more of each, maybe a couple more Furious movies to boot.

I don't think Hannibal is ever going to be made. He's been talking about that since what? 2000?

And honestly, I think that's a good thing. Trying to imagine Diesel in a toga and riding an elephant sounds so laughable that it would likely butcher what's left of his career. I understand an actor's need to branch out and play different types of roles, but I simply don't think I could buy Vin as that type of character. I don't think he has the talent. I'm not saying that he should only do contemporary action movies, but they do seem to be the films that suit him best.

Hi everyone! Some news from the Czech Republic:

Here's some new stuff so producers can get 20% of what they paid here back...

And so... it's a really big possibility that xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will be filmed here. And not even Xander Cage will come back to Prague but Ethan Hunt too! Both films are supposed to start filming in late 2010 or early 2011 (M:i:IV under fake title Aries).
