Director Rumor

Agreed. It would be nice to keep the X3 hate on that board.

This was only a throwaway line in general article on comic book movies written by a british journalist who is far from an expert in the field. It's no different to Variety repeating the rumour that Jackman was playing Pa Kent in Superman Returns. It's plausible but it doesn't mean that it's true.

Lets not let the X3 hate slip into these boards... Ratner is a decent choice... Red Dragon was decent and the Rush Hour were entertaining... not the best choice... but it will suffice

The poster asked why I felt Ratner ruined X3, so I answered. Red Dragon may've been decent and Rush Hour may be an entertaining mindless action film. But as a whole, judging by the reaction Ratner has received, he's never going to touch another superhero film ever again.

I believe Hugh will probably choose an unknown or he may direct the movie himself.

Don't really want to start X3 hate, but I don't think judging Ratner based on a few other movies he did would be good enough to give him credibility. And considering X3 was meant to be the last show in the franchise, I think they should have waited for Singer, and Ratner was definitely the wrong choice. I mean the guy made X3's running time less than 2 hours... for the final movie in the series?

I honestly think things would've been different if Singer directed the third movie. In fact, I wouldn't have mind-ed if Ratner directed Wolverine, had he not done X3.

I enjoyed X3 even though, compared to the first two, it was disappointing. For me one of the biggest disappointments was the way it treated Wolverine - his role was to move the story on and although he had screentime, his character development seemed inappropriate. It may not have been Ratner's fault, but there's nothing in his filmography that makes me excited.

I'm hoping that Hugh is good at picking directors. He's worked with some fairly impressive ones recently and it's clear the director was a major factor in his choice of projects like The Prestige and The Fountain. We know he was keen to get Bryan Singer back for Wolverine but it didn't work out. If Brett Ratner was favoured, wouldn't he have been signed early on, rather than talking to lots of other directors?

X3 was "NEVER" going to be the last show in the franchise. It's just common sense. Fox got the X-Men rights extremely cheap and to give those up would be insane.

I asked Fox about this, and they simply said that "there's no confirmation at all." regarding this.

IMO, this doesn't really confirm nor deny the claim though. I got the feeling that it might be too early to tell at this point.

I thought Ratner did a good job in x3. It was different from the first 2 but still good. I think he could do a good job in wolverine also.

I wish Hugh would throw us a bone on who has been chosen to direct this.

We haven't heard a peep out of Hugh since "The Fountain" was released in November and he doesn't have anything to promote that's being released soon (which is when you usually get news) so I'm not sure we'll be hearing anything from him unless he's interviewed from the "Australia" set. I bet we get the news at some point from another source.

Ratner directing = I'm not paying to see Wolverine.

Great this is just what the hype needs right now if this is true. Ratner & Fox bashing Round 2. The bashing from The Last Stand is still going strong we do not need two movies with the same type of bashing The Last Stand got & is still getting. One is enough

Yes, all those sniveling fanboys without a clue really hurt the box office. Who cares?

Ratner seems more then competent to me. He didn't write X3, he just shot one damn fine action film. He seemed to get the most out of the tools he was presented.

wow.

i knew this would happen.

and waiting for Singer means poop, his versions of XMen were not good in any way and if you love the characters as i do you know it's true.

we settled and bought tickets. call it what it is.

i won't here.

i'm watching marvel slowly destroy every property i love on film one by one and i won't do it any longer.

make mine dc.

Brett Ratner=HORRIBLE CHOICE.

Yeah, absolutely. Ratner is really bad director and X3 was also really bad. So, my 3 candidates for the director of Wolverine are:

Francis Lawrence (Constantine)
Alex Proyas (I, Robot)
Andrew Niccol (Lord of War)

And Joss Whedon for X4. :hyper:

I still say scrap every X Project and wait for a restart. :o

*scribbles out co-signature* Agreed.

As far as Ratner? Terrible choice. He'd do extremely well with the action sequences but he'd totally botch the job with communicating the emotional pathos Logan embodies.

No. :down

Besides being against another directorial turn of Brett Ratner for a X-Men movie or spinoff i don't think this rumor is true. If Fox and Marvel really wanted to sign up Ratner wouldn't they have done so long ago?

They talked to Zack Snyder and Bryan Singer (both declined) after X3 about taking on the movie. And i think a few other big name directors are interested according Jackman. For me thats a sign that Ratner is very low on their wanted list if at all.

Side note: They've still not signed a director for Wolverine yet Magneto a project that went in to development after Wolverine already has one.Over the past 12 months Hugh Jackman and Lauren Shuler Donner have said numerous times that they were 'close' to signing a director. Why are they leaving things so late? Filming is supposed to start before the end of the year.

Retroman when did Zack Snyder turn down Wolverine??? and if he did then he's a dumbass.

ithink he was doing a little film called 300, and said he didnt want to do a watered down wolverine, which he was sure is what fox is going to want

When Matthew Vaughn left he was approached to direct X3 by Jackman, producer Lauren Shuler-Donner and Fox but he turned it down because he was doing 300 at the time.

They later gave him the script for Wolverine but he decided to turn that down too because he had already committed to Watchmen.Which (if all goes well) is supposed to start shooting this summer.

Personally i think he made the right choice. 300 was not only IMO a great movie experience but also an amazing financial and critical success. And i think he's getting more creative freedom at Warner Bros than he ever would at 20th Century Fox.:o
