Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

For people worrying about the short production schedule, Matthew Vaughn shot Stardust for Paramount in just 3 months (with plenty of post-production time left). I don't know how long the shooting schedules were for Layer Cake and Kick-Ass, but chances are they were 3-4 months too.

There is no cast. Filming locations have yet to be scoped. No sets have been built. Basically, there is no way they meet that date unless they literally start filming in a month. So either get ready for an influx of casting, sets, and reports over the next few weeks, or more likely, they won't be able to make that deadline and will be sensible enough to get out of the summer.

I'm happy to see Vaughn finally accepting the offer to direct X-Men: First Class (hopefully he won't change his mind later), but to set a release date only 13 months after this news shows that Fox still hasn't changed from their tendency to rush the shooting schedule. I hope it will not affect the movie in a negative way.

They really think they can push this out for 2011?

They did it for X-Men 3 and X-Files 2, so yes, they believe they can.

Yeah I wouldn't use those movies as examples to reassure everyone's fears.

That wasn't exactly brilliant either.

But X2 is one of the best comic book movies ever. If they can replicate that, instead of X3, then it'll be good.

Well I like Vaughn a lot, but this is still Fox and the schedule seems tight. We'll see.

Lets just say they start filming on August 1st. The maximum they would need to shoot is 5 months (X-Men 3 was August 2005 - January 2006). They won't need 5 months though. Probably 3/4.

If they wrap in December that means they'll have 6 months of post-production, which is a month more than what X3 got. If they shoot the special effects scenes first, which is what most movies do, they won't have much of a problem.

The script hasn't been rushed, which is probably the main thing.

Wolverine was filmed well in advance and look how shoddy the CGI was despite the 150 million dollar budget. Now people are saying because it is more tight, they will get a more efficient company that will do better in less time? That's a first... 6 months post ain't enough. You film well before a year prior to release, and you leave yourself 8-9 months for edits, cutting, re-shoots, effects, etc. That's the right way to do it. This is the Fox way to do things. With this schedule you need to start filming right now and even then it's tight. Not a single person is on board as of now regarding cast/crew... go figure.

I expect this movie to suck...2011? That is NOT enough time at all. Has the film even finished pre-production?
This is Fox, they're never going to change. And its funny because they gave James Cameron creative freedom and all the time he needed for Avatar and that became the highest grossing film ever...yet they persist on keeping their methods

It could be, but it's not.

It'd even be a different story if they were planning on shooting it this summer (like they are) but they already had some of the casting and prep work done. As it is, they are going to have to rush through casting and prep so that they can rush through shooting and post to make that date.

Well, your negativity (and attempts to stir it up) is well known on here. After all, you were the one who rated Watchmen a 1 out of 10 without even seeing the film.

You're living in an airy-fairy world where everything has to be perfect and therefore nothing meets your expectations.

Just remember Pirates 4 starts filming in June for release in May 2011.

Let's just see how it unfolds and leave the worrying to Vaughn and Singer. They're paid to fret and deliver, you aren't.

Tonie, Tonie, Tonie... you rated a film 1 without seeing it? And you always claim to be logical and bringing the realness to the deluded fanboys? C'mon man...

Looks like Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is doomed then.

Yessir. Hence the need to scale back, secure cheaper locations, cut up the script, and cut costs left and right. They are aware that they are behind but they need to make that deadline otherwise they lose a year.

Guess we are going back to Watchmen now. And I never referred to anybody as a delusional fanboy. I am not saying it's not possible to put something together by June 3rd of next year. But because Singer is producing, people are expecting something on par with X-2? Not sure delusional is the right word, but it's pretty close.

One thing, Vaughn would be aware of the release date when he agreed the deal. It's not like it was sprung on him after he'd started. So we're not moving any goalposts, he knows what he needs to achieve within the timeframe he's been set & what's involved in the process. The fact that he agreed to the deal with this knowledge must suggest that he has the gameplan to get this done.

Yes but you always talk down to people like they are illogical idiots. Going "Ok this is how you make the movie bing bang boom. You are all silly for hoping this movie will be good" etc etc.

You always talk about box office and stuff like that as if you know the ins and outs of the movie industry. As if you are the most logical and intelligent person on here.

Then it turns out you did the one of the worst things an illogical fanboy/troll can do... you rated a movie 1 without even seeing it.

Sometimes you can come up with really insightful stuff man, but just, don't speak down to people as though they are idiots. You do not know what it takes to make a film. You are not Matthew Vaughn or Bryan Singer... just saying.

Didn't Vaughn bail on X3 after casting leaving them to hire Ratner last minute? What do they see in this guy?

Seems like a short time but I'm starting to think that Fox liked Sony's idea to go cheaper now that they have their hooks in to people. If I had to bet, First Class may be done on the cheap with limited SPX and more story.

Whatever the case, with Thor, First Class, GL and then Cap WHAT A SUMMER we have lined up!
