🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

I don't know, man. They didn't just get their Red Wave, they've created a Red Tsunami gaining control of all three branches of the government, as well as the Fourth Estate. I'm a white, heterosexual male. Married with children. As a liberal, I'm likely lowest of the list of targets, and I feel absolutely devastated and terrified of what they've promised to do now without any guardrails.
I totally agree, and my faint glimmer of hope is that they don't keep their promises, as what tends to happen during campaigns.

If Trump tried to run for a 3rd term, I wonder if Obama would do the same. Not that he'd want to, but because it would create the necessity of denying Trump a 3rd term. If the courts, for some unbeknownst reason, but to rule it to be okay, even they couldn't do it for one party and not the other.

This data directly supports the argument for Bernie-style economic disruption. All incumbents faced pushback this year because inflation is the most painful economic problem for working class folks in late stage capitalist economies governed by deregulated laissez-faire economic policy.

Real wages have stagnated for 50 years. The only thing that has softened this blow for Americans and the working classes in other developed countries is that free trade, globalism, and outsourcing of manufacturing to third world nations had greatly depressed prices in the big developed nations. Inflation over the past five years completely undid that very precarious balance. And while monetary policy has brought inflation back down, it has done nothing to account for the fact that prices are way up, but wages have not risen with them. So Biden can talk all he wants about how inflation is under control, but the same pay cheques aren't going as far. It's not getting any worse, but it is also not getting any better.

You want to know the biggest economic difference between Weimar Germany and other nations during the Great Depression? Inflation. Germany had out of control inflation during the 20s because the government was printing money to make the country's reparation payments to the Allies.

The above situation is the problem with trying to control inflation almost solely with central bank monetary policy and not doing anything to prevent greedy corporations from taking advantage of these excuses to pad their fat profits.

I feel like if it hypothetically came down to that (hate that we're even talking about it btw), if an over the hill Biden threw his hat in the race in 2020 then surely a 67 year old Obama could in 2028 provided there were no surefire options among the Dems.

Republicans were hopeless during the Obama years. They had crazy strong midterms but the couldn't win the white house for anything. Then Trump saved them.

Trump was going to win re-election easily but then covid hit.

So when you make plans life has a way of derailing them. We don't know what will happen in the future. Maybe Trump goes too far with immigrants, tariffs tank the economy, a younger Bernie Sanders emerges (Obama came out of nowhere) and Trump's lackluster replacement bores the base and Democrats win 2028 by a landslide.

My point is something always happens to help the opposing party eventually.

Yeah......it's not a pleasant subject and seems somewhat improbable, but that fact that it even seems a possibility says something about how weird things are. If that were to happen, I don't see any way Trump would win.

Would he run at all or just stay in office indefinitely? I doubt he'd want to do any campaigning so he'd probably amend the Constitution so he can essentially be a king. Watch him stay there like Putin.

This. I know we like to focus on policies and how they campaigned, but really it boils down to sometimes a candidate comes along that for some reason people gravitate to. I mean, Bush won again after he invaded Iraq. The only common thread seems to be that the electorate likes confidence in a candidate and a good communicator, even if the confidence and communication is in a bumbling/goofy way.

He said he plans on ripping up the constitution, is that bluster? Idk, but we are in unknown terroritory now where american politics are concerned

If Trump were dying or at the end of his term, would he admit to cheating in the 2024 election just to laugh at how he denied Kamala Harris the presidency? It's not like anyone could do anything about it at that point. In fact he could probably even admit that in the next few months once he's president because by then he'd have absolute power and would be above the law and Harris has already conceded. He did boast of having some secret with Speaker Mike Johnson which he'd only reveal once he won.

Amending the constitution (by law anyway) is a long, laborious process. The only way Trump could run would be to somehow get the courts to allow it. If they did, then Dems could do it too. The entire concept seems unlikely, but I could see Trump creating some weird office having extraordinary powers.

I can't even believe my mind is going in these directions....

Well he did say how people wouldn't need to vote again. So maybe he does plan on never leaving.

If he controls the Supremacist Court then he could change it by law. I bet Project 2025 will make radical changes giving him all kinds of powers and removing all opposition.

My wife called me up crying today from work because a few of her colleagues are openly stoked and pumped over Trump Part Deux. I found out today that a longtime colleague of mine who I have had a good relationship with and knew leaned conservative went full on MAGA during our out of office experience and is celebrating as well. I hate them all and wish only bad things for them. America got conned by history's greatest con man, and I hope that those who voted for that incompetent, amoral, treasonous scumbag get their faces eaten off.
As a Christian I am not supposed to hate anyone but damn, they sure make it hard if not impossible. :(

Trump did say recently he never should have left on January 20, 2021.

We're just waiting for his health to deteriorate further.

No can do. It's a constitutional amendment and you can't pass a law that violates it. It would be like passing a law saying you aren't allowed to say "Dogs are better than cats". Now, that being said, who knows what the "Supremacist Court" LOL might come up with. The main point being that they clearly couldn't say "Republicans can do it, but Dems can't".

I think about this every now and again but Trump brought it upon himself after all the birther nonsense.

Along those lines, the ex-Presidents should all boycott the Inauguration. Biden probably won't for obvious reasons but why should the rest of them play by the rules anymore after the last transition of power?
I'd love to see this as well, if only for the look of embarrassment and humiliation on the AntiChrist's face.

He won't leave because he will be dead in four years or too incompacitated. It's Vance you have to watch out for.

I am not a big fan of men right now, but plenty of women still voted for the AntiChrist for his vote count to be that high.
Yeah.....I did my write up on that. In particular, two groups I am very familiar with: male union members, and Latino men.....and threw in young men also (another group I'm pretty familiar with and particularly disappointed in). Women broke more for Harris, but there's plenty of "stupid" awards to go around.

I'm a female but I feel the exact same way. :(

What a dumb take, he couldn't give a **** less about them or any of them attending. The only two sides of that coin is he wants them to attend to rub it in their faces, or would not want them to so that he doesn't have to share the spotlight.

I wouldn't but anything past him or Vance because it's what MAGAts want. This isn't about Trump anymore, it's about the scum he's installing onto our government next that's the real problem.
