Discussion: LGBTQ+ Rights XVI - Part 6

Britain's Equalities Watchdog Met Privately With Anti-Trans Groups

Senior leaders at Britain’s equalities watchdog have worked to erase trans rights via the courts and held private meetings with anti-trans groups, leaked emails and documents obtained by VICE World News reveal.

VICE World News has obtained documents revealing leaders at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) as being key players in removing rights from trans people, through supporting legal cases which opposed trans equality.

The commission’s executives have also organised multiple private meetings with anti-trans lobbyists over the last year, the emails and documents reveal.

Then think about working on your language. My concern, in this particular discussion, is to avoid stereotypes and I don't need anyone telling me who my concern is for; especially when it is 180 degrees off. Telling people how they feel or what they think is called "covert abuse". IMO, language shouldn't lump everyone of a particular group into a particular mindset. I know it's hard to do, but, hey, language is important.

It's important to not have people and their sycophants pat each other on the back, but, rather, think about the effect of their own words and have honest discussions about the mistakes we all make.

EDIT: I reread your post a few times, took some time to think about it, and believe you make some valid points WRT those people who transfer their fake concerns while denying people rights. That being said, I don't see how in the world it hurts anyone to be more accurate in their statements. I said specifically that the language is sometimes a bit annoying, but that I recognized the intent behind it and will probably never understand how it would hurt to slightly qualify a statement that is factually incorrect. This can be a very difficult medium for people to express their thoughts accurately and I generally just overlook it because of that. In this case, you brought me into the conversation and all I'm really saying is that I think people should be more precise in their statements. It's one of my personal "things" because I think it can cause misunderstandings.

Tone policing when attacking bigotry is not a great look. This is as bad as people who get upset over ACAB. My brother is a cop, one who I believe is good. But that doesn't stop me from being totally fine with ACAB.

We've had this discussion before and I don't disagree. I just think people can be more careful with their words. I posted something on another thread and it just occurred to me that it's an example of how I phrase things. I'll grab it.

A former coach recently filed a lawsuit against the NFL alleging some serious, serious wrongdoing. Here's my comment.

I agree. I also think that the vast majority of NFL owners, if not all of them, have that plantation mentality; though they might not recognize it. It's THEIR team and they can damn well do whatever they want with it. They are all used to privilege and being able to skirt the rules. I hope that Brian Flores doesn't become the Curt Flood of the NFL by shining a light on these issues because it is important in a larger societal context and not just in the NFL and sports. I'm really proud of the guy and he is exactly the kind of man who should be coaching football.

I recognize the validity of some of the points both you and Darth are making and recognize that he isn't saying each and every person in a particular group thinks X way. I've stated it explicitly. My point is that I think it a good idea to be careful with wording. It's just a thing I have. Maybe it's because I've written a couple of novels and really struggled with my language in each of them. I've always been a bit of a perfectionist by nature.

In my post, I explicitly referred to "the vast majority" and "all" in separate sentences and feel both depictions are fair.

So, anyway, I'm done with this. I understand the intent and am probably just by nature a little more careful than others.

Time for bigotry in sports.

USA Swimming announces new policy for elite transgender athletes

Starting with swimming, they are going with the very much disproven "levels of testosterone in your blood". And not only that, requires three years of transitioning before they are eligible, screwing a lot of people. Notably targeted at the recent swimmer doing well. Also the testify before a panel that "going through puberty as your gender assigned at birth" does not give you an advantage is bull****.

New United States Powerlifting Association Ruleset Bans Trans Athletes and Athletes Taking "Any Hormone" from Tested Divisions | BarBend

But don't worry, lifting goes further. Essentially bans all trans people. Under the idea that hormones are a banned substance in their sport. And even fun collateral, this new policy catches female lifters who use hormone based birth control.

****ing bigots

Some have proposed doing away with men’s divisions in sport and replacing them with “open” divisions. In these, there’d be no testing for chromosome type, hormone levels or gender identification because the male/female distinction wouldn’t be relevant within an “open” category. It would just be “may the best person win.” Meanwhile, the women’s divisions would be restricted to natal females.

Needless to say, this plan is far from ideal. But it may represent the “best” option (i.e., the least bad) in terms of fairness to both transgender and cis (female) athletes.

Staff described board members changing their work – making the documents “transphobic and seriously inaccurate”. When some employees complained, they were locked out of laptops and disciplinary action was taken against them.
One ex-employee said: “I was seeing our upcoming publications and guidance pushing for trans rights being changed – or completely scrapped and shelved permanently – meanwhile the Board was building links to anti-trans groups. It was awful.”
“Staff are being pushed to not be so ‘woke’, and forced to be more impartial, but then we’re seeing statements from our leaders that are transphobic, or racist, and incredibly damaging.”
Another former employee – who left at the end of 2021 – told VICE World News that Falkner had personally changed EHRC publications about trans people, making the documents more critical of gender identity, and actively going against the organisation’s own guidance to protect people’s rights based on gender reassignment.
The ex-staff member said: “One paper was so heavily edited by Falkner that it left people speechless. She changed the case studies, the language… It was so transphobic, there was no way it would get published.”
One statement called for the Scottish government to delay its work to update trans equality laws, and the other requested the proposed conversion therapy ban in England and Wales to not cover trans people.

I'm always happy and proud of these jackasses when I see bigotry being obfuscated by switching the debate to something stupid and, basically, irrelevant. Way to go Noem!!! You're number 1 on my list.....I just can't post what list it is.

Finally the freedom that England has wanted. The freedom to discriminate.

There are some truly disgusting people out there, but I can understand not being comfortable around certain people. It's just that the people I'm uncomfortable around are bigots like her.

The right wing's newest outrage generator to show how unreasonable trans people are comes from three Twitter users, none of whom state they're trans, and none of whose posts are exactly taking the world by storm.
