Discussion of Anarchism

Anarachy based on the descriptions in this thread, would basically just turn most people into savages.

Great plan:down

Um, no he wasn't. What was that quote, about to Caesar the things that are Caesar's or somethin'?
“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”...when they asked him his position on taxation

But it's weird 'cause he also said our money ultimately belongs to God. But he's swell enough to only deMAND 10% of it for himself.

So if it's all ultimately God's, but he wants us to relinquish as much as the government asks for, that must mean that he supports the position of Earthly authority he's granted to governments.

it basically means to live peacefully within society as much as doing so does not interefere with God's commandments, it has nothing with 'endorsing' taxation or government

they can't tax what you don't have. wasn't he all about giving up your possessions.

Anarchy hasn't really been described, so much as pie.

Yes it does. The people came to him because they thought Rome was injust in taking their money, and he said, "look at the money, whose head is on it? Caesar's. Great. It's his, so give it to him if he says so."

Which means, no, don't work to overthrow Rome and fight for your percieved rights. Instead focus on spiritual matters.
The Jews wanted a Messiah that was going to be a glorious military leader who would deliver them from Rome and he was all "Pfff, who cares...yeah, the world sucks. Just worry about your relationship with God, it's all that's important, ultimately."

I couldn't even count the commentators I've heard who have just spoken as if it's a given that it was saying "Pay your taxes and obey the laws of your governments unless they contradict God's expressed laws."

Then I added, if all money belongs to God, but he's commanding you to give some of it to your government, then he's saying, "I want your government to have some of my money."
Huge endorsement.

Hey, I think someone should do a modern Romeo and Juliet movie called "Republican and Democrat", about two politicians who fall in love... despite being from different parties.

i think you're missing the part where money is the work of the devil wil.

Lol, you keep trying and trying, but you always fall short. *chortle*
When you've read the Bible from cover to cover 5 times, then come back and try again.

Common misconception. It doesn't say "Money is the root of all evil." as 90% of the people you meet would have you believe.
It says "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil."
1 Timothy 6:10

Furthermore, people think that Jesus wanted everyone to give up all of their possessions. No. Jesus OWNED possessions.
He told ONE specific rich man to sell all of his possessions, because that particular man had a problem with materialism.

Jesus was friends with rich men and the "Camel through the eye of a needle" thing refers not to the "eye of a needle" but a wooden herding bottleneck thing they used to direct camels which they called "The Eye Of The Needle".

So yeah, it would require a lot of care and be very difficult for a wealthy man to be saved, mainly because managing and acquiring wealth is almost certainly going to become the focus for such a person.

It's not the money itself, it's the LOVE of money (greed), as it goes on to say in 1 Timothy 6:10 "Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed."

Not by "MONEY", by "GREED".
And anyway, God himself struck Ananias and Saphira DEAD in their tracks because they didn't give him ENOUGH of their money, so obviously he wanted them to earn money.

Nope, they didn't die because they didn't give enough, they died because they lied about it. (specifically, they lied to the Holy Spirit)

As for the other thing, that'll turn into a religious discussion and ruin this thread... I'd rather talk about pies :(

Let me just say that I agree with this here:
"don't work to overthrow Rome and fight for your percieved rights. Instead focus on spiritual matters.
The Jews wanted a Messiah that was going to be a glorious military leader who would deliver them from Rome and he was all "Pfff, who cares...yeah, the world sucks. Just worry about your relationship with God, it's all that's important, ultimately."

But that doesn't necessarily contradict anarchic philosophy.

Lol, Predictable. That has been jonty's answer to my charge 50 or 60 times.

I'm doing an unfair, but technically correct anti-Biblical God - thing 'cause I hate the God of the Bible.

They said they'd give all they could, but they held some back and acted like they were giving the full ammount (lied). So, when they didn't give enough money (the real, full proceeds), God was angered by the dishonesty.....but I can still, correctly say, that God killed them because they didn't give enough money (they withheld the full ammount).

But even without my unfair, technically correct, anti-God characterization...kinda dashes the notion of a merciful, forgiving, loving God against the rocks like a ripe melon, seeing as how every single person on Earth has lied, and I dare say that every Christian has lied to God at some point.
No matter how you look at it, the story is effed up.

As far as Jesus and Anarchy, He said to pay your taxes. Sadly we can't interpret his behaviour when he was taken, put on trial and executed as an example for believers, because he had a...Cosmic Agenda..."To be sacrificed".

*SHRUG*

I didn't realize we were arguing about the effed-up-ness of the story

Technically...you were wrong. That's all.

....if so

Hooray for anarchy
Yeah. It means the infrastructure runs smoothly because "Dad" doesn't tell us we can't drink when we're 16 years old, basically.

Lots of teen-aged anarchists.....not so many 30-40 year old ones. It's weird.

Dude....

If they'd given the entire ammount?
They wouldn't've been killed. Right?

That means God killed them because they didn't give the entire ammount. God killed them because they didn't give enough money...they held back some.

It's "TRUE", but as I admitted, it's an unfair technicality.

you call that trying. your hilariously over the top responses to so little are amusement enough.

I don't come to the Hype to entertain people (I wish Holly could get that through her nutrient-deprived skull).
I come to the Hype FOR entertainment...my Own entertainment.

But If I amused you, I'm glad. Amusement rocks, and it's the only thing that keeps our collective-mind off of the horrible nightmare of consciousness, a nightmare none of us asked for or deserved (as far as I know).

i'm a bit concerned aswell really. i mean who presumes peoples reasons for saying money is the work of the devil.

Wilhelm has only the stereotype idea in his mind. There are a myriad of middle-aged Anarchists, particularly David Graeber. I'll link to the Youtube video where he discusses Anarchism on a late show here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uajHCIU876I

That's just one that springs to mind. Note that he does NOT act like a stereotypical teenaged freak. Point, match.
