Discussion: Racism - Part 3

Are there not black judges, black police officers, and black police chiefs? By your logic, Starbucks is institutionally racist.
What is the percentage of black judges, black police officers, and black police chiefs? Does having a black person around negate institutional racism?

Institutional racism is racism defined by the letter of the law/policy/rules. That no longer exists. It’s also defined by social structure but every society of every skin color has racism within its ranks and not all whites or all blacks or all Hispanics are racist so insitutional racism from a societal standpoint does not exist today in any industrialized country. The two are co-dependent. You can’t have one or the other in a Democracy.

The actions of a few do not represent the whole. You defining that as such is bigotry.

So as long as the damage is unofficial it doesn't matter that our institutions are being used as a weapon by white supremacist?

And we know that blacks are targeted by the police far more than whites and there are also heavily biased drug policy like using tough on crime tactics against blacks and rehab for whites.

None of this sounds like systematic bias?

The police chief in the Starbucks case is a black guy. He's saying what went down was warranted.

But yeah, as usual the other side will just write that off as some lone-wolf Uncle Tom or whatever the hell.

Lol @ "lone wolf". I don't know what pointing out that the police chief is black is supposed to mean. When has a spokesperson for the cops ever said the actions of another cop were unwarranted?

That's the whole point. Black or white, it shouldn't matter. An African-American police chief is saying his officers had grounds to take the two guys out of the store. Whether they're black or white patrons shouldn't matter.

If there's a discrepancy with how white and black patrons are treated in such a situation, the solution is "remove the white people if they're not buying anything too", not "the black guys shouldn't have been removed".

"Lone wolf Uncle Toms". Lmao.

Assimilating yourself stupid is alot of things but I don't think the term "lone wolf" applies here.

It can’t be institutional if not all judges and officers are the same color.

Again...not all of the same skin color share the same feelings. That is bigotry. Is Starbucks as a company racist? Answer that question.

Racism related to anything outside of freedom of speech is illegal...therefore it’s not normal behavior, it’s illegal for public insititutuons to discriminate, it’s illegal for private businesses to discriminate against employees or patrons based on their skin color, it’s illegal for educational institutions to deny based on race. Institutional racism is illegal according to the law. Societal racism exists but laws reflect society so if the majority ruled and were racist, we would still have institutional racism...hence my previous statement about co-dependence.

Prove me wrong.

Update on the Starbucks story.
The pair arrived at the coffee shop in the Center City neighborhood of downtown Philadelphia at 4:35 p.m. Thursday for a 4:45 p.m. meeting about a real estate deal they'd been working on for months, according to the interview. Nelson asked to use the bathroom but was told it was for paying customers only, so the two men sat down to wait for the business associate. An employee then came over to ask if they wanted to order anything, but because they had bottled water with them, they declined. The 911 call was placed at 4:37 p.m.

Robinson said the police officers didn't read them their Miranda rights.
The two men arrived at Starbucks and 4:35 and the Starbucks employee called the cops on them at 4:37.

Wow dude. Just wow.

Wow. Probably didn't even get a sip out of the water they brought in. That was quick!

There is a number of these stories of racist *****es calling cops for black people when they are doing innocuous things.

If I was a cop I would be mad as hell that someone wasted my time calling me because someone was asleep in a common room area. That isn't an emergency or serious criminal act worthy of the police time.

Every time I see one of these stories I wonder just what the hell was going through the person's mind that called the cops. Do they do this when they see asian people? What if they were hispanic? I know certain areas of the U.S. the answer is usually going to be "yes" but at Yale? WTF is wrong with you to call the cops on someone sleeping in a ****ing common room?

It's almost like there is a new* gameshow sponsored by alt righters/neo-nazis: "WHAT'S THE DUMBEST S**T YOU CAN CALL THE COPS FOR?" (cue theme music)

A black sleeping in common room? 10 points!!

A black using their LA Fitness membership?: 8 points!!

Blacks try to buy a money order? 20 points (10 points per black)!!! http://www.newsweek.com/st-louis-gr...r-clerk-refuses-sell-money-order-black-917697

Pulling a gun on a latino and accusing him of stealing the Mentos he just bought? 15 points...plus 3 bonus points for being a cop and no one having to make the call!!

*(Just kidding...I know it's not anything new)

Another one

Real Estate investing while black

White woman calls cops on black real estate agent in Memphis
In a video posted to YouTube earlier this month, Michael Hayes, a real estate investor in Memphis, Tenn., went to a house that was in desperate need of a fixing up to inspect it. It was at that point, he said, that a woman came out of a neighboring house demanding to know what he was doing. Ever affable, Hayes said that he readily showed the woman his investment contract, which showed that he had permission to work on the house, as well as the written permission he received from the homeowner.

Still the unidentified woman wouldn’t be swayed and called the police anyway.

At least the cops didn't tolerate this racist garbage in this incident and told the woman to cut it out or go to jail.

So about that lady who called the cops of the family that's bbqing. I have no issue calling a racist a racist or someone getting their comeuppance.

But was she just one of those people who's crazy and tries to get anyone in trouble and not necessarily racist?

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brief...kout-at-oakland-park-where-white-woman-called

According to an official map of the area, there are six designated barbecue locations, three stationary charcoal locations and three non-charcoal portable grill locations, KRON-TV reports.

Snider was charcoal grilling in a noncharcoal grilling location.

^LOL at "well intentioned complaint". Not sure why this dude is making excuses for the walking pile of dog excrement that called the cops on him...

(15 points, btw)

So, is this - white people calling cops on black people for no damn reason - a growing phenomena, or are we simply becoming more aware of it?

There was a girl at work who actually said it's tough being a white person these days because we have to watch what we say...

I told her that being more conscientious of what we say beats the hell out of BEING SHOT BY POLICE OFFICERS.

Today was the first day I met that chick and I instantly hated her.

I haven't noticed. Mayve it's one of things where it's more noticeable with the information age/social media. I have never called the cops on nlack people for no reason. Though, I did call the cops once on an elderly couple for driving too slow.

It has probably been going on for a while but social media, camera phones and and social change has put a spotlight on it.
