Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 2

Frankly, Obamacare was the first major step of changing the viewpoint. As Ryan and McConnell have found out, now that it is really settling in, they can't just go back to pre-ACA. So, they have to work the other direction.

And that is the brilliance of Obama. He realized this thing needs to be eased into. We have to move the ball a few yards at a time. It may not be as sexy as demanding complete European socialism now, but it's what works.

Sometimes, democracy sucks. People are generally stupid in large groups and they're too lazy to do the research before making emotional judgements on something. Criminal justice is a huge example of this. As is the War on Drugs.

So what's your solution? Subvert democracy when the will of the people is inconvenient and not what you want? Maybe the answer is dialogue. Instead of Sanders writing off anyone who disagrees with him as "establishment lackies" while screaming and wagging the finger, the answer is simply dialogue. Speak to the opponents, understand their views, their goals, and their concerns. Rather than write them off as uneducated people acting on emotion, gain an understanding of why they are opposed to these plans and then work toward a middle ground. No one is going to get everything they want in a democracy. Consensus building requires compromise and a good compromise is when both sides are unhappy.

Democracy was already not just subverted but ended in America with the gutting of the Voting Rights Act. This country is not democratic. And between voter suppression, gerrymandering, and their own incompetence, the Democratic Party is a dead institution. It's over.

Truly an important story dealing directly with the policy of the Democratic Party.

So this thread deals with any person in the U.S. who's registered as a Democrat now? :funny:

Yeah my guess is she is a silent owner who probably has 0 clue what the hell that company is doing on a day to day basis. Wouldn't be that hard for me to find registered Republicans who own companies bad business practices, starting with Mr President

Well, she needs to learn from Kathie Lee Gifford and make sure that when your name is attached, or on something what happens with that product reflects on you.

Still want to know what makes the situation germane to a discussion of the Democratic Party. It's pretty weak tea just because she's a registered Democrat to bring this up here in my view.

She was a huge Hillary supporter. She's not the cat lady with 20 bumper stickers on her Prius two doors down. She's an influential elitist and mouthpiece of the left that apparently doesn't live by the ideals she's trying to enforce on everyone else. She played a big part in Hillary's campaign so of course this is relevant. Otherwise, I'm sure you've never scoffed at any Republican that isn't a policy maker in Washington riiiiiight? Call out the turds so people don't listen to them in 3 years.

Jessica Biel influential?

Man, the 7th Heaven fandom must be much bigger than I thought, especially with it's own sex scandal.

Well I'm sure you will get over it at some point in your life really the only one making a huge deal out of it is you who cares stupid **** is brought up in all of these threads at least once or twice a day .

And Pelosi is facing backlash for negotiating with Trump on the Dream Act. Just got shouted out of her own press conference.

sigh

I wish these people knew what the current make up of Congress is, as well as who they need to actually sign the bill.

 THat's the Bernie Bros for you. No sense of pragmatism. Forget the fact that she is negotiating to save a program that will keep nearly a million people in the only home they have ever known. She is doing it with Trump and he is "teh evil establishment 1 %er!" This group really would cut off their nose to spite their face.

Reallly? Cuz... Anyone with eyes can see I wasn't the only poster that pointed this out on the page but you do you Kelly.

Can anyone answer why Hollywood invited Sean Spicer to the Emmys? Is Kellyanne Conway or Jared Kushner going to get the kid gloves too when the Trump presidency is over?

Melissa McCarthy made him a laughingstock on SNL. She should be getting the limelight for playing him.

Has anyone read about the fact that Joe Biden went against Sanders in a speech in Alabama where he said "Rich people are patriots too". That right there is everything wrong with the dems in a nutshell. They've tried going centrist (lol) in deep red states, have they gone anywhere? And now Biden has the nerve to attack the most popular politician in America.

These neo-liberal, centrist corporate apologists must go.

Sanders needs to **** off to some retirement home and spend his days playing bridge and parcheesi.

I don't think so. I don't know if he will be president but I could see him being a Benjamin Franklin type guy next to another leader. Sort of a thinker next to the doer

That's an insult to Franklin. Sanders will be a footnote in history if he is lucky. An angry old man yelling at the clouds.

Yeah. I don't think a politician who broke from over a 100 years of being funded by big money in America will be just a footnote in history. Unless the Koch bros start writing our history too.

Sanders isn't that bad, lol. He's just too old. Time for fresh blood.

the newer, younger, left-leaning progressives need to be cultivated, now. Not next year. Not 5 years from now. Now.

it's not good enough to give lip service to racial diversity then come up with candidacy tickets that are just as all-white as the Republican candidates.

The DNC needs to be continually challenged about its internal racism and its acquiescence to conservative social policies. If state-level leadership is serious, they'd be doing regular town halls every month at the city/county level to get real feedback from people. Not $1000 a plate fundraisers.

Well, 43 is considered kind and gentle, selling paintings for charity, his daughter is a co-host on Today, all the 43 regime folks (Rumsfeld, Cheney, etc.) are living comfortably and haven't felt a lick of discomfort after all the mayhem their policies caused, domestically and abroad.

it's just the way "the game" is played, especially if you're white.

And it's not good enough to pay lip service to race issues without tackling the deeper issue of class. Which most established politicians shy away from.
