I do wonder why they went with a brown bear for Baloo.

I could see Murray playing an aloof sloth bear. He'd fit it like a glove. :funny:

Like I said earlier, it looks to me like they based his size off a real species of extinct primate called Gigantopithecus:

Yeah thats a possibility.

Gigantopithecus Blacki stood 10' tall and weighed around 1200 pounds. Orangutans are its closest living relative.

Here is a comparison between Gigantopithecus blacki, a grown man, and Gigantopithecus giganteus:

Homo erectus and Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens all lived on the earth at the same time as Gigantopithecus Blacki which only went extinct 100,000 years ago. Primitive man would have been terrified of something like Blacki. Blacki may have been the inspiration for our big foot legends, but thats a discussion for a different time.

Looks kinda whatever to me, plus I thought this was suppose to be a musical, why wouldn't they put any of that in the trailer?

Effects are real good but I don't see why people were saying these are groundbreaking

This is the first teaser. It shows the effects, the characters, hints at the story, and closes with Baloo whistling Bare Necessities. It did exactly what a teaser is meant to do.

Also, these stories are from Kipling's Jungle Books. While Disney adding singing in the cartoon adaption (and Im sure this new adaption will have singing in it too) it isnt the defining feature of the story.

Interesting. Going by the trailer ScarJos voice doesn't seem right for the character it's missing that enchanting allure that they seem to have been going for. Murray as ol' Baloo should be fun.

I have to disagree. I think ScarJo's voice is PERFECT for Kaa. She's creepy and captivating and I think it's perfect for a snake who hypnotizes their prey.

I am so excited for this movie. I can't wait to hear the other actors' voices in action.

Are there even brown bears in the Jungle?

Brown bears arent in southern india, but Baloo is mostly based on a sloth bear and sloth bears are indigenous to the area where Kipling set the story.

Looks alright, Might check it out on Netflix someday

My only semi-complaint is Baloo not being a Sloth Bear. Other then that, this looks amazing, a must for me in theater.

He's way bigger than that. His arm was the size of the doorway. If someone can get a screen shot of that scene where he reaches out after mowgli, he looks like he might be bigger than King Kong

John Favrou said he did model Baloo off a Sloth Bear:

Some of the changes are evident right there in the trailer. These animals aren’t cartoonish anthropomorphs. Each is painstakingly crafted to look like native Indian fauna. Baloo now resembles the sloth bear of Kipling’s original stories, not the brown-bearish comic relief of the '67 version. King Louie is no longer a scat-singing orangutan.

Damn, youre right! Thats such an odd design choice.

Kane can post that moment in gif form if someone will ask him. My gif-fu is ****.

Looks pretty cool, this is the first out of the recent string of live action Disney remakes that I'm excited to see (besides BatB), but why is King Louie so gigantic?

IS Kaa going to be evil?

In the book Kaa is a friend/mentor of Mowgli.

When Mowgli is caught by the monkeys Baloo and Bahgeera and Kaa rescue him. Im hoping Kaa is good or at least sorta in a grey area. A character that is powerful and that Mowgli respects but not a mustache twirling evil character.

I'm hoping that she's "neutral." Not really good or evil. It'd be hilarious if this gigantic scary-looking snake was saying "trust in me," and was being sincere about it.

I have never read the book, but I did know that Kaa was originally a mentor to Mowgli, which is why I am curious here. I like the idea of her being a grey character, but turns out to be good and helpful. The overall tone of the Kaa's footage from the trailer suggest this imo.

That could be one of the reasons why they cast ScarJo. ScarJo's voice might get kids in the audience to trust Kaa more easily and it works with the character's skill of hypnotizing prey.

I wanted King Louie to throw his poo around.

^And it turns out that there's a gold pocket watch buried in one of the poop piles. ;)

WTF..I just read that the movie is mostly CGI, including the jungle itself. That's amazing.
