Animation Disney's Encanto

I see November 2021, but not "Only in theatres". Come on Disney, do Pixar right this time!

This isn't Pixar. Pixar's next movie is Turning Red and that's been confirmed to have a theatrical release.

I thought it was Pixar too. I'm looking forward to how this looks.

Honestly think Disney’s last few movies have been better than Pixar’s.

You thought Frozen II and Raya were better than Soul and Luca?

To each their own.

I haven't seen Raya and the Last Dragon yet, but over the last five years I think Pixar's been mostly outperforming Walt Disney Animation studios with the exceptions being Zootopia and Moana. Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II were nowhere near as good as their first films.

Moana is Pixar level. Definitely the best of the the Disney animated movies.

That's because of the classic Disney GOAT's Musker and Clements.
Not to mention those Lin-Manuel Miranda songs that push it above and beyond. I don't know if I'd rank Moana as high as Renaissance movies like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King, but it's definitely the best of the new wave of Disney animated movies with Zootopia right behind it. Frozen is really good too but the gargantuan popularity around it makes it seem a bit overrated. The second one had some good songs in it but it ultimately felt like it was made out of obligation to sell merchandise rather than having a great story they needed to tell.

Frozen will be thought of for that generation what Beauty and the Beast and Lion King was for ours. Wait till the nostalgia hits for that in 10 more years (and the live-action remake of course).

But Musker and Clements have been so consistant since The Great Mouse Detective. I mean, in relation to animation directors, who has this many - if not all classics, well regarded films; The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, Princess and the Frog and Moana.

Maybe only Brad Bird and Pete Docter?

Raya is an okay movie that didn't live up to its own potential.
That's disheartening to hear. Is there a supercatchy I Want song?

Yas.

Disney and Pixar are basically run by the same people, and have been since like 2008. Even when they transitioned, it happened. Pixar talent basically runs all of Disney animation. As to who have been better:

Last 5 from each-

Pixar: Luca, Soul, Onward, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2

Disney: Raya, Frozen 2, Ralph 2, Moana, Zootopia

I'd take Pixar. Soul, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, Frozen 2 and Zootopia are the top tier ones. So Pixar would win out 3-2 for me.

The weird thing is, Pixar has released a lot more movies recently. That list for Disney went all the way back to 2016. Pixar 2018. Pixar has release 3 more movies since then including Coco, Cars 3 and Finding Dory.

Oh **** I forgot about Onward. :O

Don't worry, so did everyone else. :awesome:

Okay, so I actually kind of like Onward. It's forgettable, but I am a sucker for magic. I just needed to say that before @Snow Queen had a chance to make the joke.
I started typing it and then I backed out because I thought it'd be too *****y. :o

I wasn't a fan. Wasn't feeling it.
