Animation Disney's Encanto

If Bob Chapek wasn’t so anxious putting everything on Disney+, this probably would’ve built some very nice legs in theatres through WOM before making its streaming debut sometime now.

Finally watched this. Really loved it. The music was wonderful.

I finished watching this after watching The Batman in a theater. I had watched 50 minutes of it before I had to stop because I had to go to bed. Such a palate cleanser after The Barman. I loved this, 9+/10 for me. One of the best soundtracks I've heard in a Disney animated movie. So many catchy and at the same time emotional songs. It's no wonder "We Don't Talk About Bruno" has 300 million views on YT. Surprised it didn't get the Oscar nomination.

Surprised it didn't get the Oscar nomination.

Disney didn't submit it for consideration so the Academy couldn't nominate it. Disney probably figured Dos Oruguitas had a much better chance of winning, it's more of a classic type of Oscar song. Nobody knew 'Bruno' was going to be a huge hit.

So basically...they didn't want to talk about Bruno.

They should have submitted all the songs to cast a wide net. That's what Disney did back in the day during the Renaissance era. Half of the songs from Beauty and the Beast took up nearly the entire Best Original Song category.

I’m still annoyed they didn’t nominate it for Best Song.

I'm sure Disney is, too, now that they know how popular it turned out to be! But I think they submission deadline was before the movie was released and nobody knew that Bruno was going to be such a big hit. At the time I'm sure they thought Dos Oruguitas stood a much better chance of winning than Bruno since it's a stand-alone song and more in lines with what usually wins.

I saw Lin-Manuel Miranda on Kimmel and he said that the group songs usually aren't the hits so he was surprised. He said the theater buffs and performers eat that stuff up but it's usually not the public that does which prefers the solo songs.

i can't wait to see how they perform the end together on stage

also, the voice of Dolores is probably my favorite. her part hits hard

Yeah Disney - which controls the Oscars telecast through ABC - demanded the show be cut down ...so that they can put more promo for more Disney products on the show apparently. Encanto is a great movie and one of the best of last year, but the parent company's meddling is hard to disguise.

I think the Oscars should be put on a more niche channel. The show just doesn’t have the broad appeal like it used to. I’ll probably tune in for the monologue and then just read about the winners the next day.

Still pissed when they decided to do a dance medley to the nominations for Best Original Song. Anika Noni Rose deserved better!

Give it another year or two. If the ratings continue to be in the dumps, then they'll probably start putting the show on a streaming only channel, or maybe only broadcast the first hour with the rest on streaming.

The solo songs in the movie weren't as good.

I didn’t watch the Oscars and with the slap overshadowing everything else, I only just got around to watching the performance of We Don’t Talk About Bruno. Man, they did this cast dirty. They only got to sing a snippet of their song and then even though they were on the stage, the camera was only focused on Megan, Becky G, and Luis. They got shoved in the background because I guess they thought the celebrities would get them ratings. Just awful, so, so awful.

Still bitter that this cast didn’t get their moment at the Oscars. Look how terrific they all are.
