Disney's Frozen - Part 1

I don't see how that's a retcon at all. It's no more a retcon than if she were straight.

And that's also untrue. Dumbledore being gay is part of the seventh book. It's not in the film, but we see his relationship with a guy when he was in his teens.

well, having not read the HP books, I stand corrected about Dumbledore.

I guess I just feel........Elsa was meant to represent a larger message/metaphor.

it shouldn't just be confined to sexuality.

and like I said.......if you want to make her gay. be open about it and don't try to do it through subtle context.

her character's message can certainly be a metaphor for being gay and coming out. but does that mean the character is actually gay in terms of her sexuality? I don't think they're going that far.

I definitely don't get the vibe that Elsa's gay at all. And I honestly don't think Disney would go that route either, even with the present day debates and culture. I agree that she represents a bigger independence.

And point proven. :p

I'll admit, when I think of Elsa, I think of her as gay but that's mainly just because it makes her that bit more interesting than she already is. It's more important to me what she represents with regard to mental health; that you can have these flaws but still be a good person, among other things.

and that's the point. she's like a mirror that reflects back what a viewer relates to her.

on another note, they're announcing the Oscar noms tomorrow.

Frozen BETTER be nominated........and it BETTER WIN!!

It definitely has a chance, I was very surprised in a very good way by it, and I'm trying to drag my mom to see it tomorrow, last day in theaters here. :(

Frozen must win both best animated movie and best song, and make sure Idina Menzel sings Let It Go at the ceremony; I don't want Demi Levato anywhere near the song at the Oscar. :cmad:

When planning Tangled years back, the painting "The Swing" was used as a major touching stone in discussions between concept artists and the director

An homage to the painting shows up in Frozen during "The First Time in Forever"

I actually spotted this in the theater but had yet to find a screengrab.

Edit, ignore the hashtags at the bottom its from a parody tumblr.

Frozen got the Oscar Nom for Best Animated Feature!

And Let It Go got nominated, too.

Now, it just has to win!! At least best animated picture.

again, I'm surprised Monster U didn't make the list.

I can't believe Monsters U wasnt nominated but Despicable Me 2 was.

Both Despicables suck. I hate the Minions and how popular they are.

I haven't seen the second one but it has to be better than the first. I almost feel asleep three times whe. I saw the first movie in the theater.

I'm really surprised Monsters U didn't get nominated for either a Golden Globes or Oscar?

is this the 1st time a Pixar movie hasn't been nominated?

but, regardless, it just means one less competition for Frozen.

which is a good thing!! :woot:

Go Elsa !! Go Anna!! Go Kristoff!! Go Sven!! Go Olaf!! **** Hans!!

Go Frozen!!

is this the 1st time a Pixar movie hasn't been nominated?
Since the award category was created, only two Pixar films haven't been nominated: Cars 2 and Monsters University. Cars 2 I can understand, because that movie was a piece of ****, but I felt Monsters University deserved a nomination.

Chances are good Frozen walks away with the Best Animated Film win. I'd be surprised if Despicable Me 2 wins.

hmmm......interesting.

I'd be pretty ******* pissed if DM 2 won instead. :cmad:

Frozen has this easily. Best Animated Feature is one of the easiest awards to predict.

My kids love minions, but I think DM2 is no better than Cars 2. MU should've been nominated over it.

MU had themes of growing up, going to college, finding who you are. Despicable me was a film for kids primarily, not that thats a bad thing, just don't see why it was nominated for an oscar over MU

Now that Hayao Miyazaki's film The Wind Rises has been nominated in the best animation category there's a good chance it will win! The Academy loves him and his film took a lot of political criticism in Japan, the Academy loves to award films that do that.

Just to clarify to those that think this an anti Frozen post; I'm no Hayao Miyazaki fan.
