So......about Hans.....

are we to assume that, if he hadn't bumped into Anna first, and realized how gullible and trusting she was, he would have gone after Elsa first?

Hans seemed to suggest that at the end when he said Elsa was the likely "target" since she's the heir to the throne.

I don't think Elsa would have fallen for Hans, because unlike Ana, she wasn't as naive or as trusting due to her secret. She would've kept him at a distance even if he tried to court her.

Also, [BLACKOUT]Hans himself says that "nobody was getting anywhere with Elsa," so her solitary nature was common knowledge. He was probably going to try and seduce Elsa, but met Ana first and realized she was a much easier target. [/BLACKOUT]

I think he was scheming, but as he said getting to Elsa would have been extremely difficult. Anna falling into his lap gave him a chance and he seized it.

So, I, like many others, absolutely loved this movie. However, was anyone else a little disappointed that we didn't get a bit more villainous Snow Queen? If there was anything I would criticize it's that they had a chance to make a truly sympathetic villain in this film, if they had Elsa go a bit more off her rocker with her powers. Now, I completely understand why they didn't go that route, but I think it would have been interesting. I think I would have wanted to see her eventually end up good in the end still, but I wanted to see her be a bit more villainous when she basically says F-you all and goes off by herself. I also expected her to accidentally kill her parents with her powers (which may have been a bit dark) but I think would have been extremely interesting.

Considering it is a love story and a tale of siblings, I think they made the right decision.

I still love the story, but I think it would have been interesting to push that edge a bit. It was, at it's core, a story about two sisters saving one another. I think it could have been interesting if they had pushed how far Elsa's powers, and her fear of those powers, took her before she eventually learned how to handle it.

Again, I still think this is a great movie, but I think that could have been an interesting angle to explore.

But that isn't the character at all imo. She isn't a bad or evil person. She is a scared person. One whose own parents taught her to fear herself. The major problem with her powers is that her parents ostracized her because of them. They completely missed the point of what the troll told them.

Everyday of Elsa's life was spent in fear. Fear of discovery, fear of hurting someone else. A fear instilled by her parents, who separated her from the one person who could have actually helped her. So when she runs, she isn't suddenly hit with anger, she feels relief, freedom. And when in such a situation she has complete control of her abilities. She only lashes out when her stunted emotions are challenged or she is her attacked. She lacks control when all she can think about is control.

For something like what you suggested to work I think Elsa would have had to be a different character. And I like Elsa exactly how she is.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not saying I wanted Elsa to go full on nuts and run back into town freezing people left and right. I'm just saying I think they could have had her go a little more dangerous and a bit more unbalanced. Not totally off her rocker crazy, but just a bit.

Which would still have been well within her character. I know I'm quoting Yoda here, but it works because it's true: fear leads to anger. It would make sense that Elsa would have some built up anger at living that long in fear and repressing a part of herself. This is a more extreme version, because Elsa didn't have a home life this bad, but Chronicle shows that transition perfectly.

Again, I wouldn't want anything as extreme as Chronicle, but I think they could have played around with Elsa getting even angrier when she was attacked, or even during her conversation with Ana in the ice-castle. I wanted to see a few more examples of how frightening Elsa's powers could be when her control slips a bit.

it WOULD have been interesting to see Hans attempting to woo Elsa. It probably would have gone something like this:

Prince Hans' guide to wooing a princess on the 1st night:

Scenario A: Wooing the older yet elusive and somewhat icy sister

Hans: "Elsa!! You are so beautiful, my lady!!"
Elsa: "..............."
Hans: "I hear you like chocolate. I love chocolate, too!!"
Elsa: "Heh. Chocolate."
Hans: "And I like wearing gloves, too. See??"
Elsa: "Those gloves.......I must have them."
(Hans gives his gloves to Elsa. Elsa snatches them away greedily. Hans grabs Elsa's hand)
Elsa: "What are you doing??!!"
Hans: "With you, I've found my place. Elsa? Will you marry me?"
Elsa: "THE F***??!! HELL NO!! Who the **** marries someone they just met??!!"
Hans: "But we can have lots of kids. And my 12 brothers can move in with us!!"
Elsa: ".............Leave!! This conversation is over!!"
(Elsa slams door on Hans. Elsa then reopens the door and takes Hans' chocolate fondue. Then slams the door again.)
Hans: ".................she took my chocolate.........and my gloves. And did it just get chilly in here or what??"

Scenario B: Wooing the younger, more gullible, socially awkward sister

Hans: "My Lady!! You are so beautiful!!"
Anna: "Squee!!"
Hans: "I like chocolate, too!!"
Anna: "Soulmates!!"
Hans: "And sandwiches, too!!"
Anna: "Double Soulmates!!"
Hans: "Anna?? Will you marry me??"
Anna: "OMG!! YES!! YES!!! YES!!! ( Jumps around like Daniel Bryan ). YES!! YES!! YES!! Now let's make out!!"
Hans ( thinking ): "As easy as stealing candy from a baby......."

Agree with this x 100!!

I was hoping that Elsa's power would cause more trouble, like creating more of those giant snow men and they go and terrorize the town, not directed by Elsa but on their own. Also, some townspeople getting accidentally frozen by her spell. Of course she would reverse all of it in the end, but that would have been nice to see. Nothing as bad as accidentally killing her parents, though.

Actually, I think that was an earlier plan they had. Elsa was supposed to create an entire army of giant snowmen to guard/protect her, of which Olaf was the imperfect, rejected 1st creation. But the giant snowmen prove too effective and Elsa loses control over them and they go attack the town. much against her wishes.

Man, I would have loved to see that. Oh well, still a fantastic movie.

It might get too dark for this movie if we see an army of giant snowmen start attacking townfolks, though. I'm fine with the direction the movie took, and it is perfect the way it is.

Box Office Mojo:

Monday, December 23:
1. The Hobbit - $7,823,089
2. Frozen - $7,242,689
3. Anchorman 2 - $5,791,000...

Looks like Frozen is having better legs than just about every film out there.

I doubt they'd make it overly dark if that was the route they chose...even then, Disney has gotten pretty dark with their cartoons. Clayton hanging himself, Mother Gothel deteriorating into ash, Mufasa's death, etc. I doubt they'd see a problem with giant snowmen attacking a town. It's not like people would be dying bloody deaths and getting ripped apart, or anything like that.

Damn!! $7m on a Monday!! :wow:

That means it's already crossed the $200m by today (Tuesday)!!!

besides the army of snowmen attacking, another angle that it seems they considered, but dropped, was that there was a prohecy in the kingdom that a witch/sorceress would trap the kingdom in eternal winter. So, one reason why Elsa tried to hide her powers ( and perhaps her parents, too ) was because of that prophecy.

I remember mention of a prophecy was in the early synopsis.

Yeah, I would have liked seeing something like that as well.

Also, I did expect Ana to figure out at some point that her memories had been modified. It seemed kind of odd that they didn't re-address that at some point, I figured the trolls would mention it to her.

you know what really pisses me off about Hans??

Love is An Open Door is such a fun, catchy song, and Anna and Hans make such a cute couple!! I love it when they do the robot!! In fact, the whole sequence brings a smile to your face.

Damn you Hans!! Damn you!!! Why did you have to spoil that song!! :argh:

You make me so mad.......I wanna do this:

The whole Anna agreeing to marry Hans thing got the exact intended reaction out of me and like everyone I saw it with. We all just looked at each other like wtf, one day!? And when her sister was pointed that out we almost cheered lol.

I'm just glad she didn't marry Christof in the movie. That would have contradicted itself.
