Yep, people are falling in love with Frozen. But one reason that is possible is it is not competing for eyeballs. All the little ones have had only one real option. And once they see it they want to see it again, and again and again. :

Perfect storm really.

^ yep!!

and they said no more princess movies............bah!! :o

Trying the hardest =/= the best.

Idina Menzel has proved to be one of the very best in the industry through her amazing work on Broadway (Rent, Wicked) and she also won Tony award, which is the highest award given for theatrical and stage plays. She has earned numerous accolades from professional critics and fans alike. I don't think it's an opinion to put her right up there among the very best.

I'll probably just listen to it on Youtube!
Idina's biggest numbers from Wicked -

"The Wizard and I":

"Defying Gravity" (this song actually reminds me of "Let It Go" a lot, from a thematic/contextual perspective, as it's where she embraces her destiny as the "villain," though it's seen as a moment of empowerment):

"No Good Deed":

Such a powerhouse voice she's got. Probably one of the most famous Broadway voices out there.

Ahhh Wicked...went in having no idea what it was about and came out loving it.

I still listen to Defying Gravity a few times a week at least. Something else.

On the whole, Menzel and Chenoweth compliment one another so well. Wish Disney would do an animated Wicked.

thanks!!

so BO Mojo has the weekend estimates at $28,845,000, for an estimated total of $248,366,000.

That's a bit shy of the $250m mark, but still impressive nonetheless. The total for this whole week was around $56m!!

Let's see if the momentum can hold next week for it to reach the $280m mark.

I see it getting to ~278M by Thursday but then again I'm using data that is a decade old.

I'll be happy if it's $278m by the end of next weekend........lol

Well then what if I were to say $295-300M by next weekend. :cwink:

The fact that Frozen's weekend figure after 6th week is so close to Hobbit 2 is quite astonishing. I do think that there is a chance when the actuals come in on Monday that Frozen might win the weekend, albeit by a hair.

I must say that while The Hobbit 2 is making big money, it's not doing gangbusters ala Catching Fire money. in fact, I think the momentum for Frozen picked up after it's release, and now it's a train that cannot be stopped.

I'd call you insanely optimistic!! :woot:

those 2 films are pretty neck and neck. Who would have thought Frozen would still be hanging in the #2 spot after 6 weeks!!

All aboard the Hot Tamale Train!!

Not really, numbers back it up. Sort of.

I was teasing you a bit........:cwink:

considering it did about $56m this week, it's entirely possible it could do another $50m next week. I just think $30m to $40m is more likely, as the XMAS holiday break will be coming to a close.

It needs to continue a strong showing Mon-Wed. If it can maintain at least a $5m per day average those 3 days, then a weekly total of $30m seems very doable. If it has stronger #s Mon-Wed, then, yeah, $40m or even $50m could be possible.

What a great movie this is.

I agree. I'm a huge LOTR fan and own the extended edition, and I saw both Hobbit movies. But I must say Frozen is more memorable than Hobbit 2, and between the two I think Frozen's success is more impressive as well.

oh definitely.

For me, being a huge Superman fan, Man of Steel was my most anticipated movie this year. I loved MOS, but, I dare say, I enjoyed Frozen more!!

With all these movies about fighting, killing, explosions, loud noises, etc., it's nice every once in a while to have a movie where you can just have fun and enjoy it!!

felt the same way when I watched Tangled. they both are such a joy to watch!

not just the story, characters, and music, but the colors, animation, the technical details......all of it.

It's so sad that The Hobbit films just exist. They're not even touching the cultural milestone that was the original Lord of the Rings. You couldn't escape those!

Frozen is pretty much guaranteed to pass Monster's University at this point, which will be the first time that Disney Studios proper has ever beaten Pixar at the domestic box office when they both released films in a given year, breaking Pixar's streak that began in 1995, when Toy Story made $191 million to Pocahontas' $141 million.

good!! :o

Am I the only one who's annoyed by these generic titles Disney are using nowadays?

it depends.

before I watched Tangled, I was annoyed. I was like.......why not just call it Rapunzel?

but, after watching the film, the title Tangled fits and actually seems more appropriate.

The reason I say that, is because Tangled didn't feel like a "traditional" fairy tale movie. Just the tone had this more "modern" feel to it. No stuffy narrator, story book opening, etc. Even Rapunzel herself really felt like a modern day girl next door type.

Same thing with Frozen.
