Disney's Frozen - Part 2

914 million world wide! Might this be able to eek out a billion?

A billion is a done deal, probably without even counting Japan.

Domestic still has another 30m, maybe even 40. South Korea is still putting up big numbers, it will be at least the 2nd highest grossing Hollywood movie ever when it passes Iron Man 3's 9m admissions (around 68m US) and it's actually tracking at the same pace Avatar was and that ended up with 13.5 m admissions (over $105m), so another 25-40m there, depending on if it matches Avatar.
China will end up with 30-50m, should be close to 30 by sunday, so 10-30m more there.
Remaining markets still chugging along too, looks like there's still another 15m to come from holdovers (funny, I've said 15m for holdovers for 3 weeks, but it just keeps going)

On the low conservative end, that's another 80m, on the high end as much as 125m (but that high end keeps moving upward).

And then there is Japan. A bare minimum of 50m, but who knows what the high end is.

I'll predict 1.1 BILLION worldwide right now.
====================================================

Tuesday numbers out now. For some reason a lot of movies dropped on Tuesday when we usually get a 10+% bump.

Frozen had the best drop among animated movies at -9% ($403,385/$369,484,152)

Lego was -10% and The Nut Job was -21%

====================================================

Overseas

In South Korea it's still #2 for Wednesday with 103,197 admissions ($787,206) and passes $60m US (8,123,613/$60,517,891)

Looking ahead to the weekend Frozen is #1 for showtimes (5,343+) and presales (56,586).

In China Frozen did 13m Yuan on Wednesday, total is now 126m (over $20m US)

why has it taken it so long to open in Japan?

I wish I knew. Personally, I think it's a bad decision because the longer it takes to open over there, the more likely that their impatient moviegoers will try to find a bootleg version on the 'net.

yeah. it's hard to believe it still hasn't opened there......since November.

and somewhat off topic.....

just watched the Olympic Pairs Figure Skating, the Chinese pair danced to I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis.

no matter what........that song gets to you.......the feels....... :waa:

maybe someday in a future Olympics, someone will dance to a Frozen medley!! y'know........a future Ice Queen skating to Let It Go!! :woot:

oh, and the last pair they showed, the Germans, danced to music from the Nutcracker.

man........that brings back so many memories from my younger years dancing ballet. :csad:

Funny you should mention that. There are a lot of people comparing Gracie Gold with Elsa. May be partly due to her choice of Ice blue costumes and her Elsa like poses.

^ hah!! now all she has to do is come out and skate to Let It Go! :woot:

hope she does well in the individual competition, but it looks like a tough field.

there's that young Russian girl who blew everyone away during the team event.

and of course, South Korea's own "ice queen" Yuna Kim who hasn't even skated yet.

Let it Go According to Google Translate :funny:

How about the reigning Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim skating to Let It Go:

It would be awesome if she does in Sochi. And it's even more perfect when you consider the fact that Yuna's nickname is the Queen back in SK. :yay:

Wednesday numbers starting to trickle in. No Frozen numbers yet, but expect a hefty drop. It appears the snowstorm just destroyed business yesterday and might be even worse today.

Just look at these wednesday drops...

Lego 2.8m -33%
Monuments Men 1.4m -46%

I just hope this snowstorm eases up by Friday. Elsa needs to give the East Coast a break.

can't watch the video right now.

did Yuna really skate to the song or was it just a fan edit video?

and yes, it WOULD be awesome if Yuna skated to Let It Go in Sochi!! :woot:

It's fan edit, but it was done pretty well.

Elsa is still ticked off about that loss to U2 for the best song in Golden Globes. :o

Full Wednesday numbers out.

As expected, Frozen took a hit, dropping -23.5% with $308,635.

The good news is that was the second lowest drop in the top 10, only American Hustle at -22.7% held better.

I just hope this storm plays itself out before Friday, this is probably the last shot Frozen has at coming close to 10 million for a weekend (even if it is a long weekend).

I think there is a ton of potential for a sequel what with the 12 brothers of captain *****ebag in this.

holy crap!!

how ****** will she be if Frozen doesn't win the Oscar or if Let It Go doesn't win Best Song??!! :wow:

That's why the Golden Globes isn't a real factor. It's a weird, off-putting award, though the ceremony itself tends to be more loose than the Oscars.

I can't wait to see how Frozen does in Japan. Still a ways off but here's a Japanese poster...

Kind of like how Brave was still "The Bear and the Bow" outside of English speaking countries. I hate the trend of one word titles anyways.

Frozen I don't hate because it barely resembles the original story now but Brave and Tangled should have been "The Bear and the Bow" and "Rapunzel." And Giants probably could have still been Jack and the Beanstalk.

Disney plays it cool with online frenzy for Frozen

Of course, none of that helps my son get over “Frozen.” My best bet is to fight fire with more fire; what better way to dislodge that film from his mind then by introducing him to another.

But this won’t be easy. Told recently he was going to see “The Lego Movie” at the earliest opportunity, he replied, “Is Elsa in it?”

Nice to see Disney recognizing this online fan community for Frozen as an asset.
