Difference is Idina doesn't need any help at all. She's one of if not the biggest name in regards to Broadway musicals. Her new production is already being projected as the go-to show of the season. And it's a limited run. Good luck to people coming into the city just to see her. Gonna pay a lot for 3rd tier balcony tix

I know Idina is legendary on Broadway, but thanks to Frozen even non-Broadway crowd now knows her name. And I think after her Oscar performance, even people who haven't seen Frozen will know her as well.

Of course. But every time that happens people think they can come to NY and pick up show tickets like it's nothing. Idina already sells out everything she does thanks to Wicked. Godspeed to them

I had no idea who the hell she was. I'm about as far away from Broadway as you can get but even if I lived in the States it's doubtful I would have known. Broadway talent isn't exactly a strong area for me, all I know is a lot of movie actors do it or start from there.

Menzel has a very distinctive singing voice. It just hits you hard.

I don't know - Frozen's the #1 album on Amazon but none of Idina's solo work there is selling well at all. Her latest album, "Still I Can't Be Still" which was released last November right around when Frozen came out, has a sales ranking of #53,391. I think most of the general public don't really know who voices Elsa or don't seem to be impresed enough to care about Idina's voice outside of the movie. They like Elsa and Let It Go but it stops there, it seems.

Early Friday estimates are in, Frozen seems to be between 1.5 (Rth) and 1.7m (Deadline).

If 1.7 that would be around 11.5m for Fri-Mon long weekend. The standard Fri-Sun number with 1.7 Fri would be over 9M, that would be the #2 12th weekend ever, trailing only Titanic. With 1.5 it will be close, but should still beat Home Alone (8.215m) and Avatar (8.118m). Titanic is unreachable, a whopping 17.6m.

=============================================================

Frozen returns to #1 in South Korea and should easily win the weekend, again.

Saturday #'s

1- Frozen 324,149/$2,517,212 (774 Screens/3456 Showtimes) - 8,649,412/$64,598,417
2- Miss Granny (수상한 그녀) 269,341/$1,888,454 (673/2861)
3- RoboCop 204,428/$1,469,594 (625/2790)

Another solid day for China too, it should pass 30m there tomorrow.

Saturday

18.5m (171m)/$28M

Looks like Frozen is a force of nature in South Korea. Frozen did not have an impressive start in China, due to the fact that China jammed it with other high-profile Chinese movies and only assigned limited number of screens, but it turns out that its phenomenon cannot be stopped in that country as well, and the moviegoers are turning out in droves. I do hope it will have a longer than 10-day run in China, and judging from its box office, Frozen just might receive a longer stay over there.

It's well past 10 days in China already, Feb. 13 was day 10. It will play to at least Feb. 20, quite likely another week after that. Should be in the 40-50 range, depending on exactly how long it plays.

That's a great news. I think Japan will probably follow suit, after SK and China's success, and Frozen is the kind of movie they will probably embrace (animation and music).

She is probably the best-looking Elsa cosplayer I've seen on the net so far.

"Still I Can't Be Still" was released in 1997. That's the album that she did the CD signing for that I posted the autographed copy of on the last page. The November release was a reissue.

Regardless of what the general public might think, the people coming to NY at this point wanting to see a Broadway show, will want to see "If/Then" because it stars the voice of Elsa. She was already a big Broadway star thanks to "Rent" (which she received a Tony nomination for), and especially thanks to "Wicked" (which she won the Tony for, and reprised in London and Toronto). Plus she was also a regular on "Glee".

But this? It's going to make that show a bigger hit than it was already going to be.

I saw If/Then in DC the week before Frozen was released. The stage door then was packed (Idina took the time to sign for everyone though), so I can't even imagine how crazy it would be now, lol.

How was If/Then? I'm thinking I should probably get a ticket now if I'm going to go.

The show definitely had some kinks to work out, imo (I'd be curious to hear if any changes have been made since the DC run), and the plot is basically a musical version of that Gwyneth Paltrow movie from the 90's, Sliding Doors. It had some decent songs (I'll probably buy the OBCR) and I did enjoy it, but honestly, the highlight of it for me was hearing Idina sing live, because I never had before. For someone who's already seen her in Wicked or something else, I think it would be a pretty mixed bag.

Stupid Taye...

I just met her that one time, and she was really sweet.

I think their separation is more along the lines of long-distance strain. He was shooting Private Practice in California for several years, she's on the East Coast doing Broadway. It's a shame, since they were together for a LONG time before they got hitched.

I heard some allegations about Taye being unfaithful in their relationship, but I can't verify if it's true or not. And it appears that Idina hasn't unfollowed her ex-husband on Twitter, so perhaps they separated on a good term.

And he's was supposedly cheating on her, if the tabloids can be believed.

Sounds that way. I wasn't in any rush to see it, since I've seen her in other shows, so I guess I'll just keep it on my list of shows I need to catch up to.

Looks like China is showing the same long legs as everywhere else. This Saturday increased almost 25% over it's first Saturday, and that's agains a bunch of new local movies opening, and with estimates for Sunday Frozen is at $31.6m US after 12 days.

In South Korea Frozen had a larger than normal drop of -36.2% because of a bunch of new openers (including Robocop and Lego), but still managed to finish #1, narrowly missing 9m admissions.

Weekend:

1- Frozen 746,766/$5,806,378 (-36.2%) - 8,951,845/$66,932,186
2- Miss Granny (수상한 그녀) 679,930/$4,748,167 (-34.8%)
3- RoboCop 507,720/$3,654,276 (New)

==========================================

Edit- Worldwide totals are in, Frozen now stands at: FROZEN: $579.7M Overseas Total / $955.7M Global

1 Billion is locked without even counting Japan.

Wait, Frozen is still #1 in South Korea even with Lego Movie opening over there? That's an impressive feat. I'm glad this movie is having incredible legs in China as well. Hopefully it will gross at least 50 m over there for it leaves the theatres.

Lego is actually flopping in SK, it's #9 for the weekend, Robocop was much bigger competition.

Weekend: The Lego Movie 34,949/$225,973

Is Lego even a thing in South Korea? It's more of a west-world thing

Does that mean Lego Movie will not make that much money oversea? Maybe it is the kind of movie that only appears to the American moviegoers?

American and Europe. Maybe the Latin Americas.

China is a maybe too because they're fond of our animation.

One country isn't much to go on, especially one with a different culture like South Korea.
