I mean, if you call being upset that Disney thanked a police force in the end credits that's been known to rule over concentration camps, sure. Such pointless outrage, am I right, fellows?![]()
I wonder if Disney anticipated all this controversy and that was part of the reasoning to put this on Disney+ instead of theaters.
...we really just going to ignore this?
Yeah, I completely disagree with this. Beauty and the Beast definitely "plays it is safe" by sticking close to the source material, but the music is pretty great in it, and it is clearly the film they put the most effort into, and it shows on screen. The castle and Belle's town have more to it the anything else built for any of these films, and I personally adore every song in the film. Even Gaston, which can't really compare to the original, plays really well imo. And the Beast's new song is just great.
The songs are fine, but the movie is basically unoriginal in every regard. All they do is make shallow changes that address things people joked about in the animated one. Without the charm.
I echo the feelings of Lindsey Ellis on that movie. That's i think the best review floating out there of that movie.
It's not about the quality of the movie. Whether a person likes the movie or not is irrelevant to this conversation. But let's not ignore the facts here.
I agree with Spider-Fan. Beauty and the Beast felt like an expensive cosplay, and Aladdin IMO felt like that even worse. Just......superficially flashy but utterly soulless.
Agreed an Aladdin as well. I would add The Lion King to that list as well, and TLK to me was the most egregious. I remeber when Aladdin came out being encouraged that people seemed to like it, and I walked out feeling exactly like I did with BatB. I wish I had optimism that these would get better at some point, but they have made the company billions with low effort. Nothing will change.
Everything that was true of Bill Condon’s 2017 Beauty and the Beast is equally true here, if not more so, a rote and uninspired retread of a previous movie that can be revisited on DVD any time its fans desire that offers nothing except the “novelty” of seeing it underwhelmingly reenacted in live-action (and losing most of its pizzazz along the way). Unfortunately, nostalgia is a powerful thing, and Disney’s string of cannibalized remakes are almost guaranteed to continue to be a reliably profitable, if terminally lazy, cynical, and creatively bankrupt enterprise.
Can’t we just enjoy a movie without there being some political controversy at every corner?
Nope movies now gotta meet all types of requirements or a certain crowd turns on ya
Gives me more of a hankering to go spend that $30, tbh.
I’ve ultimately decided to wait until December to watch it but if they do this with Black Widow, I’ll just throw my wallet at them.

Can they determine Black Widows success or failure based on how Mulan is being received ? I dont think this is a good judge for it. This was most likely never gonna go will

I mean, don't get me wrong, you can tell Bill Condon tried his damndest and I thought it was a very beautiful movie to look at, but for me there was just something lost in translation. Like during Be Our Guest, I didn't feel any kind of excitement or awe from Emma Watson, and it didn't jump at me like the cartoon or broadway did. I'll give them credit for 'Gaston', that song they did give it the energy it deserved.
I have to rewatch it but I don't know man. Beauty and The Beast is personally my favorite Disney movie of all time, I just thought they didn't bring it the way they could've.
I actually thought Gaston fell pretty flat, both the song and Luke Evans in general.
I'd take these "boycotter's" stance more seriously if they didn't go around saying they'll pirate the movie instead, and some lack enough awareness to even suggest to watch the other Mulan adaption over this Disney one, because "Disney bad". How they rationalize boycotting a film that China get's no piece of the pie of, but the main Asian actress said something on social media, but to support an actual film made in China, is beyond me. I'm almost of the mind that more than a good amount of these "boycotts" is not due to any human decency, but because they're racist and sexist towards an Asian female lead. Wonder if that's happened beforeIt's not about the quality of the movie. Whether a person likes the movie or not is irrelevant to this conversation. But let's not ignore the facts here.
I feel like "not supporting genocide" is a pretty low standard to expect from a movie production, but I guess even that is too much to ask for some...Nope movies now gotta meet all types of requirements or a certain crowd turns on ya
