its the Garnier girl! :DV:

and yes i totally remember her in that Nic Cage Asian film and that Forbidden Kingdom flick. solid choice this actress!:up:

She's very beautiful indeed... imagine how much of a moron you'd have to be to mistake her for a man. :o
well... thats true :funny: but they could go with the teenage boy angle, those kids who are usually given menial jobs like feeding horses or cleaning up or serving stuff. its only when the number of troops are low when they start armouring everybody including the kids

Now we just need the second most important role to be cast.

i would love it if they could get Eddie Murphy back for this. if not, then i'd like them to think out of the box for this.

As a Chinese person, I don't know if I should be flattered or insulted by your comment.

This whole "East Asians tend to look significantly younger than they actually are" is just a silly generalization or sterotype.

How about you stop labelling us and start seeing us as individuals?

Sorry but I have no faith in this one. Western people couldn't even get their facts right in the 1998 Disney Mulan movie.

Mulan's last name is "Hua", not "Fa" as appeared in that 1998 Disney animated movie.

It's so embarrassing that they couldn't even get such a simple historical fact correct.

And Mulan is not a Disney princess. She is not born into royalty and she did not marry a prince.

Disney couldn't even get this simple historical fact correct. How embarrassing.

How many adaptations of Mulan actually are faithful to the ancient story?

That was meant as a compliment. And btw, I'm Korean-American myself, so that would be extra weird if that was meant as any kind of insult.

At least other adaptations are not like Disney. They don't randomly changed her surname from "Hua" to "Fa".

And other adaptations doesn't potray Mulan as a Japanese Geisha.

That matchmaker scene in the 1998 Disney animated Mulan movie, why is Mulan and all the other girls on their way to the matchmaker, have their faces painted ghostly white like a Japanese Geisha?

Sorry. My apology. Thanks for the explaination.

To my understanding

1. Fa is just the Cantonese pronunciation of the name Hua

2. Regarding the Makeup: http://traditions.cultural-china.com/en/15Traditions3998.html

3. Also for people who assumed the outfit was a Kimono, the dress was hanfu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanfu

Also should we expect Wuxia inspired Martial arts sequences or POTC style action?

Oh my gosh I would love that.

But I reckon it will be more lord of the rings style

That's a solid date. Disney has done well with scheduling their fairy tale remakes in March, like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

Donnie Yen incoming:

‘Mulan’ Live-Action Disney Reboot Casts ‘Rogue One’ Star Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen is set to star opposite Liu Yifei in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Mulan.”

Niki Caro is directing, and Chris Bender, Jason Reed, and Jake Weiner are producing the pic. The pic is set to bow on Mar. 27, 2020.

The movie is eyeing a 2019 release. The English-language version of the original “Mulan” (1998) featured the voices of Ming-Na Wen, Eddie Murphy, Miguel Ferrer, and BD Wong, while Jackie Chan voiced Chinese dubs of the movie. The film grossed $304.3 million worldwide.

Funny that this article mentions both the 2020 release and that it's eyeing a 2019 release.

Donnie Yen might be playing the villain.

Honestly, I think the decision to distance this from the animated film so much (No songs, Shang not being the love interest) might backfire on Disney. Doesn't mean it'll be a bad film but I can't see it going over that well.

It may as well be another Zhang Yimou flick if we don't at least get Mushu.

Donnie Yen. It is always a pleasure when he is around. :woot:

Yay for yen! But when are we going to find out who is playing hunky Shang?

I'd be fine with this being a straight up Asian wuxia film in the vein of Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, Hero etc. Just with a little Disney "magic" sprinkled on top.

It would have been nice if Disney got Jackie Chan or Jet Li for this film

glad Donnie is getting hollywood work now but it is such a shame he did'nt blow up here years ago i remember watching him kick ass in several chinese action films like Killzone and Flashpoint like 10 years ago
