DmC: Devil May Cry

I don't think it's a reboot at all. A reboot is... well.. a reboot. Batman Begins, The Amazing Spider-Man, ect. They're made with intent to forget the past.

This... originally was a reboot, this guy was the NEW Dante, old white haired Dante was gone. Now they have back peddled and they're calling it an "alternate dimension" which means the original DMC is not being rebooted, it still "exists" even though this "new" one is out with a funny looking dude who calls himself Dante.

What it seems to me is that Capcom probably told NT to say this stuff just in case this game tanks, that way Capcom can bring out DMC 5 with the original Dante and pretend this game never existed.
It is a reboot. That was their way of explaining to people that still cant grasp the concept that these are two different characters

A reboot and alternate universes are not necessarily synonymous terms.

Whether its the same Dante or not is besides the point.

Most people don't like the gameplay, aesthetics and "redesign" of the new DMC world.

People are up for new interpretation but its sort of what Dragonball: Evolution is to DragonBall/Z or what Dracula 2000 is to Bram Strokers Dracula, or what The Last Airbender is to Avater: The Last Airbender. Its not a very good reinterpretation.

...But if the original canon still exists it's not a reboot... it's a "side story" or "elseworlds" or "alternate dimension". A reboot means to restart... start anew... start over... This isn't doing that since there is "Earth 1 Dante" and now "Earth 2" Dante...

So.. It's simply a DMC game set in an alternate dimension... because they're can't stick to their guns about rebooting the series. I mean, years from now (if it was successful) when we were getting DMC 3 with this new Dante I still probably wouldn't play it but I'd at least give them credit for actually starting over...

But they're not. This is "their Dante" that "coexists" with the original Dante... And it doesn't make any sense. It's not that I can "grasp it" it's that they came out (they as in NT and Capcom) saying that this was a reboot, they even said that Dante wouldn't be getting his original design Ala Cole in inFAMOUS 2 (a design that was reverted back due to fan demand) because this is how Dante looks now in this reboot...

Now they're saying "Oh, you'll probably see the original Dante again because this is Alternate Dimension Dante!" Oh... Ok... So you're now backtracking because you know you've pissed off your loyal fanbase and there is a high chance that this game won't sell due to that... So, just in case it doesn't you're saying "Just because you're playing as Earth 2 Dante here doesn't mean you'll never play as Earth 1Dante again in DMC5!"

It is, to me, an obvious tactic by Capcom as a way to protect themselves in case sales for this game tank.

It's not the original fanbase that "doesn't get it" it's obviously Capcom. It's also not just Dante that the fans dislike but the entire look of the game world..

Exactly!

I would greatly prefer someone a lot more clean cut looking that the current emo drug addict who hangs around behind the music shop look. The Escapist Magazine comic, "Critical Miss" said it best. Old Dante would romance you, New Dante would stab you and steal your wallet for crack money.

Am I the only one who would imagine (in an alternate universe) Dante as power suit wearing entrepreneur type attending some fancy dinner party and... suddenly demons and he's forced to accept his true nature. Keeps the suit though...

Also, angel/demon hybrid? Are the developers five years old? Does he fight dinosaurs too?

But he doesn't look like an emo and a drug addicted anymore. Not for the last two trailers. They seem to have redone his appearance. He doesn't even look like that guy from Ninja Theory, anymore.

I don't see a huge difference and he still looks like the head of NT to me...

Take a look at the first official pic:

Now look how he is being done:

He looks more healthy, at least, not emo.

They have similar hair color/style. Thats it. The faces look absolutely nothing alike.

The gameplay looks pretty much like one would expect. The character looks different but the combat looks very familiar and typical of a Devil May Cry game. Its funny bc after the summer trailer was released many in here were optimistic about the gameplay bc it looked good while still voicing concerns about the guy's new look. That is and always has been the primary source of all the b-tching towards this game

Here's a better pic. He looks softer in the face

Except not really. I've played all the DMC games and what I've seen from the gameplay has felt jarringly different in fact. Bayonetta felt more like DMC even before I played it and saw it in videos/screenshots, once I played it the fluidity that I found in the DMC games was there.

Plus the look of this new game I've personally (and apparently a lot of other people too) found to be incredibly ugly and the gameplay relatively unimaginative in comparison to the amazing combos one could perform in the past games.

Not to mention the horrific use of coloring, architecture and overall texture work. The gamer overall just looks really ugly in that Prototype way.

So like I said in that post. The main character looking like Hilary Swan meets Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is just one of the errors they took in this "reinterpretation". Hardly the most game breaking but it doesn't help that the rest of the game doesn't look good as a DMC title.

If Dante has white or hair or not quite frankly would have no difference on making me like this game as I feel the new world they've created is anything but interesting.

With the world in the game changing so much, I wouldn't call the gameplay unimaginative. It seems they're trying to bring something more to the franchise.

I was one of the first to voice my frustration with his appearance, but the gameplay is not an issue to me, so far.

Nothing shown in this game has an upper hand visually, design wise or with gameplay on DMC 4. NT was right that they should change things. But make those changes to evolve the franchise for the better. They are idiots for calling the Japanese designs outdated and not cool. Think they bashed Bayonetta as well. This new game looks and feels more dated then DMC 4. They should have realized they are fictional game characters, they can keep their continuity in terms of looks. You dont see Mario changing.

Gameplay looks dull imo.

He kinda looks like the one who wished for the Marshmallow puff man from Ghostbusters

This pic doesn't really do it justice. In the newer trailers, he doesn't have this big bangs, anymore. His hair is just normal. He looks overall much better than he was initially.

Like I said before, this game looks better by each released video.
They're slowly winning me. I just want a release date.

I can honestly say, the gameplay footage was great. I think the more I see Dante in action, the more I can accept this new appearance.

well at least you acknowledge that the gameplay and game look decent enough. Ultimately I think thats what matters the most more than what characters look like.

Oh yea, i think the game looks super fun. I mean i love kicking demon ass but damn i HATE the look of this "Dante". HATE it.

If I were just interested in the gameplay alone, I would probably never touch another DMC game after Bayonetta came out. But not only the gameplay has to win me over, it's the atmosphere as well. And the whole punk vibe doesn't do it for me.

Well i still think this "Dante" as much as i hate him is better than Bayonetta. She was really, really stupid.
