Do you think the Pirates sequels should have been made?

Was it worth it?

  • YES!!! The only thing better than more pirate movies is more rum!

  • NO! They ruined the ending of the first one with inferior sequels.

  • I don't care and I don't care about these movies.

  • What's a pirate?

The first movie worked so well because it was perfectly balanced. It was fun, and it knew exactly what it was and not to overplay it. The sequels are the definiton of sound and fury signifying nothing. They are just hours and hours of exposition. New characters are introduced just so they can have a big secret and make bargains with other characters. It's incredible that the plot is so confusing when nothing has actually happened accept allegances have been swapped ad infinitum.

The only real plot development in the sequels is saved for very last scene - Will and Elizabeth have a son. That's all there is.

Another thing - this trilogy fails completely as action. I am bemused that some are calling this the new Indiana Jones when the action is both sparse and of mediocre quality. The fight scenes are neither dramatic or spectacular. It's eight years since The Phantom Menace, but you wouldn't guess that looking at the sword fights in World's End.

I haven't watched AWE yet.

The first Pirates Movies just felt long to sit through however I felt the 1st was enjoyable. The 2nd one felt like they were filling a cinema reel til AWE was released and felt like it was a poor rehash of the 1st movie with everyone doing the same as the 1st movie. However, 1 character acted differently and that was Sparrow being more "comedic" which was not a positive.

I'll wait til I see AWE before I can finally honestly state my opinion.

Love Pirates 1 and 3, not so much 2, so i say yes.

I liked the sequels, they didn't quite match the first one, but I'm not sorry they were made.

They should have made each movie a solo adventure. I was pretty dissappointed with AWE. I'm one of the new that liked DMC though.

Same here man. DMC was just better. I can't believe AWE was not even good. Most disappointing movie for me this year.

And I agree with you signature....Spidey 3 still is better so far for me too

Even as kid I never liked pirates, I never went on the stupid Disney rides.

It was. While Spider-Man 3 had a lot going on, the movie's plotlines were important to the plot, not excuses to make grand battle sequences (like the Calypso story...it served absolutely no purpose).

I cannot believe how popular these mediocre Pirate sequels are. You'd think they actually deserved the attention they get. One thing's for sure, the tomatoemeter over at Rottentomatoes is on point:o:up:

uh...no they arent...they arent even close to where they were...did you even f**king WATCH the movie???

They are together with a kid. Wouldn't that have happened if they were together as a couple at the end of the first movie. Calm down. It's not like she's a man now or something. They broke the curse. Happy ending just like the first.

Yes, they should've been made.

I like the movies, but I think they went into the wrong direction. I think the movies should all have been stand alone adventures and still be great fun.

Really, why did they have to do the whole big ass two movies as one deal like Matrix and BTTF sequels?

It doesn't really fit the tone of the first movie, which is just a fun little adventure all by itself. I think the Indy movies are great as standalone adventures.

This is exactly my opinion. "Pirates..." deserved sequels, but they should've been Indy-style sequels.

Ultimately, I think these sequels were just way more ambitious than they needed to me. And at the end, I still don't think AWE matched that ambition.

There was no big ass pirate war. Calypso really doesn't do anything at all. And there are very unclear plot developments.

I think the movies still could've been epic and big without quite having to do everything they did here. Still keep maybe some of the locations and action sequences. Just two separate stories.

"Pirates" is a different franchise than "Indiana Jones." True, you had an "artifact" to find, but it was never that kind of franchise. The franchise was built more around the actual ideal structure of pirating and pillaging and even mythological elements from that period.

The series as a whole covered every area of Pirate Lore in both fact and fabrication, but ultimately it was about the fun of the series.

Frankly, I liked the trilogy. It was built directly from the first film and explored what it had in place and expanded more from there. It wasn't just a repeat of the first film. Yes, there were elements intact from the first film, but it was more about making the world larger and seeing things from a different perspective.

The series stand out moments were the nods to the Errol Flynn movies and the underhanded action and double crossing. Given it's a Disney movie. It held to the key elements of what a Pirate film should be.

If you were expecting more than that. You may actually wanna elobrate on that.

I wasn't expecting more.

I mean they wrote the first film without the idea of a trilogy in mind and it shows in places.

Just caught this today now that the rush is over and although the sequels weren't necessary, I'm definately glad they were made. Though not as good as the first it's only by half a point in my book and I'd be happy to see more films instead of just keeping it to a trilogy. Everything's a trilogy nowadays and I don't quite understand this. If there's more good stories to tell then keep on telling them. In my opinion this was a good story well worth telling.

yes the sequels shouldve been made, they have been great and I for one loved the ending of the trilogy so I was happy. The sequels dont ruin the first one in anyway. If someone wants they can just imagine that the sequels didnt happen and it wont hurt them.

I just felt part 2 and part 3 had paper thin plots that in the end took away more from the great and near perfect ending of Pirates 1 than adding to it, though.

I think all of cinema needs a break from sequels that aren't really well planned out.

Well, they didnt ruin the franchise in my mind with the sequels, but I would have been perfectly happy with just the first film.

I went with no I liked the first one but hated the second one I still haven't seen the third one nor do I plan to.
