Doctor Sleep

Trailer looked good and I am really looking forward to it. I was a bit thrown seeing another young actor playing young Danny Torrance (in the recreated Kubrick shots) but I like that it is a sequel to that film and interested to see those re-creations, and what they add to the Kubrick movie. Danny Torrance was always an interesting character to me, as well as his powers.

Haven’t read the book, but this looks dope  Love Flanagan and McGregor but Ferguson’s role looks the most intriguing to me. I have a feeling she’s going to be great.

This looks more of a straight out horror than Kubrick's, which was more psychological/internal (Jack Torrance's madness.) But from what I've heard of the book (and shown in the trailer), the story is more like that as well, with "bad guys" in pursuit. I don't mind the more conventional horror played up like that. I am not expecting it to be like "The Shining" or Kubrick and that's ok. It's like with 2010:The Year We Make Contact, it wasn't very much like 2001 but I still found it interesting. Flanagan can make this his own too.

What a fantastic trailer. It's still on my mind. Flanagan is the best horror director of the decade; a real artist and this looks to continue his string of great stories. Usually references annoy me, but here it looks like it's in service of the new story of Danny and this girl.

I think this could be something great. I

So glad they are connecting the book universe to Kubrick's universe for this film. I don't think it could have been successful otherwise.

It’s kind of a necessity for the movie though. Not even King can deny Kubrick’s version is the more popular.

The synopsis I read almost makes it sound like a superhero movie.

It is definitely a bit more of an adventure/thriller with some horror elements than it is a horror story. And Flanagan says they didn't really approach it like a horror movie, though there is certainly some horror in it and a couple scenes that are very horrific.

I know it's a terrible thing to say but I like the colors in Flanagan's 'shining' shots more than original *hides*

I wonder if Danny actually goes back to the Overlook or if hes just having some sort of Shining dream. Looking at the shot of the Redrum door it appears to be old and like its been untended for years.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The one with the twins loses so much because of the more generic horror-y palette.

Yeah, the original Kubrick shot looks like something that would be relatively normal in any other situation, but the angle and framing of the shot, along with the inclusion of the twins in the background, makes it look somewhat off and gives off this feeling of uneasiness, like true horror should be.

The new shot just looks like standard, generic, contemporary “creepy” horror 101 shot #612 that’s done ad nauseum in so many horror films nowadays, down to the color grading and lighting. It’s like it’s saying, “Hey, look at me! Aren’t I spooky? Oooooooh!” It’s trying too hard.

If someone told me the latter shot was from either an upcoming Insidious or The Conjuring spinoff film, I’d probably believe them.

Thats okay. However, if you were to say you prefer Steven Weber to Jack Nicholson, then you’d be dodging some rocks.

I just like the palette Flanagan uses in his films. It's cold, but not dark, it's colorful, but not too aggressive. It really fits the genre well and I adore how all his films look like that, it's very distinctive

Best parts of trailer are from Overlook hotel flashbacks. Felt same way when I watched Ready Player One.
