Doctor Sleep

It makes sense. Most people know The Shining as the movie and not the book. So a sequel to a book most people haven’t read but a movie people, if not seen, know the iconography of.

I am really looking forward to seeing this movie. There are other big movies this year but this movie and 'Joker" are the ones I am very interested in. I have seen Kubrick's "The Shining" many, many times so I am curious to see what they do.

I am surprised publicity hasn't started for this movie at all. November 8th is not that far away and they did release a preview at Cinemacon so I would have thought we would have got a teaser trailer by now.

But it's not just no trailers, there has been zero news about the movie since the Cinemacon bit.

It's five months away which on par with It 2 only got its first trailer back in April and that's out in September. I fully expect WB to attach the first trailer with Annabelle Comes Home.

yeah, that makes sense.

I guess I'm just surprised it's been THIS quiet about the movie given I figured it would be a pretty big release for WB. I mean, it's a sequel to The Shining and it has a nice cast, Flanagan's coming off a very successful Netflix show, etc...

I suppose the trailer will kick things into gear and you're probably right about Annabelle for it.

Well I'm sure the first trailer will be good, WB's marketing is great

The actual movie on the other hand....

TBF Warner Bros hasn't released a trailer for any of their November films like Motherless Brooklyn and The Good Liar. There hasn't been a trailer for Torrance either.

I take it you're not a fan of the book?

It's a mixed bag for me. There are aspects of it that I love and aspects that I don't. I think my biggest problem with it is that--like many of King's books--it's over-plotted and over-written. I imagine the movie will have to streamline the story a good bit (and hopefully ditch some of the endless expository dialogue in the second half) and that should only help.

I think there's a lot of potential for it to be a good film, though, and I think Flanagan's the perfect guy to tackle it.

Trailer debuts later tonight

Looks incredible.

And makes sense they would lean heavily on the Kubrick film since it’s more well known than the book at this point.

I wonder what King’s thoughts are on that considering his disdain for the 1980 film but his love of Mike Flanagan.

You will notice in the trailer that there are a lot of scenes that seem to be from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining; however, Flanagan says there’s only one reused sequence.

“The only scene we used from the Kubrick film was the bloody elevator,” admits Flanagan. The rest of the Overlook scenes were shot by Flanagan, last year, in a studio in Atlanta.

Whaaa? They look almost exact!

This looks AWESOME!!! Exceeded my expectations.

Color me intrigued

Okay, that looks f**king amazing. Oh this Autumn, this and IT Part 2, will be SK magic time......:mrk:

Certainly looks like Flanagan's movie! I like the trailer but that shot of Rebecca screaming with weird eyes looked really dodgy :

Kind of reminded me of something from a Marvel movie but it didn't bother me too much.

Ferguson is gonna be great in this.

The cinematography looks like the next step up for Flanagan and Fimognari after Hill House.

What little we saw of newcomer Kyliegh Curran as Abra, I was impressed.

Didn't really get any juicy bits of McGregor's performance but he definitely feels right for the part.

The cinematography would tip me of this is Flanagan's flick even if I didn't know. I like how his films have this 70's look to them, colorful but a bit desaturated

I'll be curious to see if
The ghost of Jack Torrance appears at the end like in the book. I wouldn't be surprised if they replace him with Wendy and/or Dick Hallorann since they have cast both to appear in Doctor Sleep
