Sequels Does anyone else wish that the sequels weren't numbered titles?

I kinda wish they weren't. I understand why, but it would be really cool if they used names like "The Web of Spiderman" or "The Spectacular Spiderman" ....... Especially Spectacular Spiderman.... I wanna hear that theme song, dammit.

Hard to say. I kind of see this film franchise as a comic book series. TASM was issue one, now TASM2 is issue two, and so on.

I think that, since people are so used to the numbered titles, that if it was named something without a number, then people would mistake it for yet another reboot.

"What? Spectacular Spider-Man? They are rebooting again only 2 years later? Darn you Sony!"

I dig the numbers, they fit. A whole new title would be wierd for this series and a subtitle would make it feel too long.

Well, imagine... they call this one "Spider-Man: Wrath of Electro" or something. That's not too long. It's not like they call it "Spider-Man: Wrath of the Electrically Powered Man who calls himself Electro who gets powers from electric eels and oh by the way a rhino man is there".

I dig the numbers. A subtitle wouldn't be too bad but I don't want them to drop the TASM title.

What I find interesting is the switch from using roman numerals to numbers in all movie sequels, when did this happen?

I'm good with the numbers. Because it's likely theyll reboot again someday (10-20 years whatever) and when that day comes they will use Ultimate Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Avenging Spider-Man or Web of Spider-man, etc

The Amazing Spider-Man sounds better than "Wrath of Electro" IMO. That comes off as a Star Trek rip-off --> The Wrath of Khan.

I'm fine with the numbered titles. No need to get fancy at this point.

The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 3
The Amazing Spider-Man 4

I prefer them over having subtitles with 'em, it'd just be too long.

The superbowl sued them.
But then how will dumb kids today figure out when a movie was made?

A generation of American children—or at least Bart Simpson—learned how to read the antiquated numerals from these movies. (In one episode of The Simpsons, Bart finds the Roman numeral for seven by adding Rocky II to Rocky V.)

I like having the numbers, but think sub-titles would be great. Like this:

The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 : The Night Gwen Stacie Died
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 : The Sinister Six - Part 1
The Amazing Spider-Man 4 : The Sinister Six - Part 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 5 : In the Clutches of Doc Ock
The Amazing Spider-Man 6 : Venomous
The Amazing Spider-Man 7 : Maximum Carnage

i think the GA would get confused as in if TASM 2 was called ultimate spidey or somthing then they would think of it as a nother reboot

I think the first three should be numbered, but they should make up a different name for the fourth film if is is about the Sinister Six.

Yes it's stupid they're numbered all the way up to 4. I don't get why Sony does that. It just makes the films seem finite and they know they're not going to reboot again or end the film franchise for any extended period of time (because they can't). They should just start using subtitles.

Well I'm fine with them using numbers for the first few films. But I don't think they actually have official titles for the third and fourth film, they are just calling them TASM3 & TASM4 so people know what they are. I don't think the numbers suggest anything about them not wanting to reboot...

If they weren't numbered titles then the titles would either get too long, or they would get out of titles for the reboot some years down the line

Originally I was disappointed that the sequels were just going to be named in a number sequence. But it's probably better than the alternative: The Amazing Spiderman, The Spectacular Spiderman, The Incredible Spiderman, The BADASS Spiderman! Swapping out adjectives becomes silly after a while...

I don't mind the number sequences. If they changed the title every movie then the reboots would have a hard time coming up with names. And I really do hope they never stop making Spider-Man movies. I want Spidey to live on for as long as he can. It would be pretty cool if the reboot 20 years after TASM is over is called The Wall-Crawler. Simple and not too fancy.

Since when are numbers finite?
