i find that it is very subtly implied that aunt may knows peter is spiderman but they don't get into it in the movie. is it confirmed/unconfirmed?

Going off the title alone.

No, she has no idea who Peter is. She just sort of accepts his presence in her home.

The dynamic reminds me of the 90s cartoon, where it's so obvious but Aunt May doesn't really think too hard about it.

She just wonders who is turning her underwear red and blue. Peter laughs from behind the closet.

I'm tired, I don't know how to make sense! :o

I think she does, but it remains unsaid between the pair.

I kind of hope that in the amazing spider man 3 that they expand on this. In the rami franchise I think she new but they never had her come out and say she did or not it would be something new to this franchise.

Yea in Rami's Spider Man 2 it's heavily implied that Aunt May knows that Peter is Spider Man as she gives him that speech before he gets his powers back. I was hoping Aunt May was gonna do something similar here after Gwen's death but she didn't.

I felt her speech about packing Ben's stuff away came close, as if she would rather him serve the city and risk his life for others than waste away and do nothing. “Too bad about that spider guy, too bad he’s disappeared, seems everybody really needs him.."

Peter's watching the bulletin, turns it off and then May pushes her point. But indeed, her speech works just fine even if she doesn't know about his double life.

Well I mean they live in the same house together for more than 10 years. She also raised him. I would say, yes.

During the "You're my boy!" scene, she gave him a knowing look when she says people keep secrets, even from the people they love. That sealed it for me.

I think it was fairly obvious from the ending of the first movie where she decides to not question him about his injuries after just watching a new report about how Spider-Man saved everyone that she knows. Scenes in the second movie just make this even more clear. I hope in the third movie she just comes out and says it as it would be something we haven't really seen before in these movies.

I think she knows Peter is Spider-man and would prefer her character to pick up on it.

Also I'm laughing at the sarcastic remarks. Classic thread fail.

I'm so in line with Sterling Archer on this one. When Aunt May was all "people need Spider-Man" and this whole speech, I'm like... didn't Rosemary Harris give this same speech in Spider-Man 2 ten years ago? I'd love to see them make light of the fact that she's always known.

She 100% knows he's Spider-man. It's obvious in ASM2, but it also seems like she caught onto it towards the end of ASM1.

I hope/think she doesn't, because the moment of her finding out is way too juicy and dramatic for it to be skipped in favor of an unsaid thing.

Also... at the end of the film she just mentions "that spider guy" in a throwaway kind of manner, not being suggestive or anything. You'd figure she would be super concerned if she even suspected he was risking his life everyday fighting crime.

Come on, she doesn't know.

That's how it was in the comics - on her deathbed, after Peter tells her, she smiles and says she knew all along.

She definitely knows. From her "people keep secrets" speech, to the look she gives him at the end of the first one when he comes home all cut up, to the comment about "that Spider-Guy" and post-Gwen. They played up the same thing in the Raimi films - why? Because Aunt May is always supposed to know deep down, but she doesn't draw attention to it out of respect to him.

Sure, but there's also this:

Having options to chose from, I would take that one. I WANT to see that moment, or a variation of it, I think it would make for a thrilling, very rich moment of Spidey cinema. And like I stated above, I don't think it would make sense at all for Aunt May to know and not level with him about it. She worries about him in every single aspect of his life, but she's gonna shrug off him being a superhero? C'mon.

Yeah I hope they do something off of this has in spider man 2 it semed like shee new to but they never came out and really had her or peter do anything because of it.

She rightly believes he is a troubled young man. But does Peter himself know who he is?

But yeah---they made it pretty clear in both movies.

not really. if it was crystal (no pun intended) clear then I wouldn't have made this thread.

By saying "pretty clear" I meant to some people---but she didn't say it out loud so ah......maybe not.
But I think Field sure played it that way and Webb didn't change it.
