I'm all up fer helpin' to make THE ultimate SG site.

Cool! I was starting to wonder if anyone would be bothered. We just need someone who can design this all nice and th efun can begin. I think some of the more dedicated people in this thread should come aboard since they would probably know what exactly a Spider-Girl fan would like to see.

As readers of Spider-Girl #100 are learning today, the last issue of the hereoine’s series is just that – only the last issue of that particular series.

As has become the familiar refrain - Spider-Girl lives again - and this time, it’s a little more stable than before.

In October, Marvel will launch The Amazing Spider-Girl #1 by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. And – for fans of the character who’ve felt Marvel may have dropped the ball along the line, or never really worked to promote the series, the publisher is rolling out the marketing wagon. Case(s) in point:

- The Spider-Girl Saga #0 which catches readers old and new – up on the character and her world, will come out two weeks before the new #1 issue.

- Ed McGuiness will provide a variant cover for #1.

- Posters featuring the cover to #1 are being readied for promotion.

- The Amazing Spider-Girl postcards are being prepared.

We caught up with Spider-Girl writer Tom DeFalco to get his take on this new lease on life for May Parker.

“This is truly the little comic that could,” DeFalco said. “I’ve told the same story time and again, mainly because I can’t believe it myself – this was supposed to be a one-shot character, one issue of What If?. When Ron Frenz and I did that issue years ago, we realized the character was fun, and thought we might do a sequel down the road. By the time the issue with May in it came out, we had already moved to other projects, and then, when Marvel asked us to do a comic series with her, I didn’t think it would work. I figured we’d get twelve issues, and we did that, and then we got the call to do six more…and basically, we did six more all the way up to #100.”

Though the cynics may believe the whole “end with #100 only to restart with a new #1” was a plan calculated and implemented by Marvel marketing, DeFalco joked that he certainly would’ve enjoyed if the cynics had come by his house to provide some comfort when Marvel informed the Spider-Girl team the series was cancelled.

http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/SpiderGirl/ASG0Cov.jpg “We were told it was going to be cancelled,” DeFalco said. “We were told it may come back, but we weren’t told that Marvel would be canceling it, only to start it up again. To me, though – I’ve been in this business for so long – it’s never official until they give you the actual assignment. Before that, it’s all talk. I’m not sure I fully believe that the book is even coming back this time [laughs].

“But going back a couple of months ago, they told us that, bottom line, these books are selling terrific in the mass market. We’re reaching an audience that everybody thought and still tend to think that comic books cannot reach anymore. But we’re doing it, and we’re doing it with numbers that are quite significant. That’s why Marvel continues to move ahead with Spider-Girl. Today, when people look at numbers, they tend to look at the Direct Market numbers, and judge form there, but that’s not the whole market anymore – lucky for us.

“When they had newsstands sales, Ron and I were routinely at the top of those sales, and we could be there again if we had a book that was actually gong on the newsstand, which, I think with the relaunch, this book will be on the newsstand again.”

As for some changes and tweaks when the series starts, Defalco noted that May Parker will have longer hair when things pick up in October, and that Frenz has adjusted the costume somewhat to make it a touch sleeker. “He’s been tweaking it all along to make it work better on a visual level,” DeFalco said. “And he’s used the time off to really go to town. He did some really wild designs, and then came back to something that most readers won’t even notice the change, but artists will.”

According to the writer, as he sees it, there will be about a two-month gap, storywise, between the end of Spider-Girl and Last Planet Standing and Amazing Spider-Girl #1, “although we’re not going to play that up.

“There will be a few love interests for May,” DeFalco added. “She’s actually going to spend some time being a teenage girl, with all the attendant heartaches that brings. One of the things we’re doing though, is that we’re approaching the first issue of Amazing Spider-Girl as if there had never been a Spider-Girl series – we’re hoping to bring in as many readers as we can with this. If you’re one of the ones who’s told us that you’ve heard great things about the series but never picked it up – here’s your chance. You may just discover that you like it. We approach comics in a very different way than a lot of comic creators, and feel that the readers’ time is very precious to us, so we don’t want to waste it. We don’t believe in decompression.”

I'll post some here and in the Reilly thread(USM) in about an hour, the guy who's fixing the dorms shower stalls is blocking the driveway, and I don't feel like walking to the shop in te rain

with the new "AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL" title coming out in months, does this mean we FINALLY get to make a new thread? this is WAY too many pages to even try to read. Please tell me we'll make a new thread. anyway, i only have one issue of spider-girl, i think it's issue 87, well it looks like i'm gonna try to get the new series. awesome.

if we start again we should wait til #0 is launched :) but yeah im up for that. i think loadsa pages is stoooopid, but ppl seem to like the page theyre on looking popular and dont want clutter, altho 2 spider-girl pages cannot be bad.

Ok basic issue summary

Basically Kaine freaks out like any good clone of Peter should and starts attacking every thing that moves. Hobgoblin watching from afar wonders why Kaine is taking her death so personally, and soon flies away to deal with his brother Daniel. Normie shows up to help kaine and skewers the few remaining scirers for good measure. He than uses the costume to bond with May and possibley heal her. May has a Pat Ollifie illustrated dream, where her rouges gallery chews her out for not being good enough to survive. After a quick convo with Mj, Pete swings off to find May. Meanwhile the Blank Tarantula is unable to convince Raza to not kill Spider-girl thus he decides to fight Raza for the leadership of the scrier. Back in dream world May is now dealing with all the friends she let down, however Normie shows up, to tell her how much of a difference she made in his life.

H-Gob finally grabs Daniel, but Peter attacks him and has the advangtage until Kingsley tells him he killed May earlier. Dream Normie and May are having a chat, lots of talking later May returns to life thanks to the Symbiote. As she leaves Kaine and a now powerless Normie have to deal with an onslaught of Scriers. May returns to help save Pete from the Goblin, however H-gob uses Sonics to ward the suit off May, it attacks Hobby and is eventually killed. May goes after Hobby and defeats him almost identitcally to the way she beat Normie in What If? 105. Peter and May return to Kaine just as the Tarantula defeats Raza, he calls off the attack and the Scriers leave the four of them on the rooftop, meanwhile Hobgoblins has peaced. May and Pete return home all beat the **** up, and MJ goes all 90's on us and asks them to stop Webswinging. Nomie Brenda get marrried, and May helps Davida and Courtney clean up the party that she missed. May walks home and reflects on everthing thats happened to her and ends the issue by affirming, like always, that it's a Spider-girl world.

The End...
For Now
(And truer words have never been written)

Than theres a letters page, a one page gallery of all the covers, the cover to Amazing Spider-Girl 1, a rogues gallery, every Spider-Girl and he amazing friends, and a reprint of Spider-Girl 27, and Spider-Girl 53

Not a problem in the least dude, my typing skills let me bang that summary out in less than five, the book costs a dollar more than usual, a dollar fifty if you live in Canada (Which is bull****!), which is kind of annoying if you have all the issues like me, but w/e, it looks cool in the long box, which is all that matters eh?

That cover to Amazing Spider-Girl #1 is beautiful. I'm going to resist the strong urge of reading the spoilers for this issue, and believe me when I say that that's a rare thing for me to do. I just have to see it in person.

^ wow, theyre slowly cutting away the webbed/red section. urgh, they better not take it too far... oh and theyre NOT ben reilly's/ classic pete's webshooters. where's the sections in them. who's are she using these days? i actually don't like them (how nit-picky is that??). Nice pic tho

#100 was a good read. It tied things up, but also left open some possibilities. All the bonus stuff was a nice touch.

Can't wait for Amazing Spider-Girl

To everyone who did his or her part to keep Spider-Girl alive, and that includes simply buying the comic, thanks!

We have kept something good alive. Great job, all. Can't wait until October.

After the last 3 parts of the Hobgoblin story, that was weak. Didn't care for the BT stuff and the Scrier fight, and Hobgoblin got punked easily.

I'll pick up Spider-girl again when/if Kingsley pops up again, but only if he's not turned into a dope at the last minute. Pity, because I was enjoying it up until that point.

For the record, if you've read Hobgoblin Lives or the issues of Amazing Spider-man that make up "The Origin of the Hobgoblin" trade, a lot of the panels with Hobby were almost straight copies of scenes from those issues. Homage or ripoff? Dunno.

SPIDER-GIRL RETURNS IN AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL!!! OMG! I am so down. I missed out on spider girl the 1st time round... only picked up the last few issues...... but this time I will be there!

I hope Tom gets back on his game, and it's encouraging to read that they're approaching this series as if there wasn't Spider-Girl prior to it. THat hopefully means trimming of the excess narative storyline fat tha started to plague the book. Allowing them to focus more closely and not have to make time for the 0 odd some status quo changes that occured during the books run. Hopefully they'll go with a slightly more realistic style to it, something closer to what you see in ASM.

All in all good news, I'll probably pick up issue 1.

Back on his game??? Hell, did you read #100? It was one of the best books I've read this year.

CLOSER to ASM!? Have you ****ing read ASM lately?! The most despised Spidey title currently?! You must be delusional. Or crazy. Or both!

And what th' hell do you mean by "excess narrative storyline fat"? Hope you ain't talkin' about th' subplots.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Sales jumped for 97 and 98, so those who bought just the last few issues were a big part of convincing Marvel to go ahead with the relaunch.

So, THANKS!

Read # 100 this morning. Definitely, a great issue and a good closing on this chapter of the life of Mayday, and her family/friends. It was an awesome sight to see Pete don the webs again and go after Hobgoblin.

Tom did a really good job with this and really left a lot open for the series to continue on.

We will be seeing Hobby in the future. Good for the readers, bad for the Spider-family. :o
