I loved it. I wish they found a better timeslot because I don't think Go On is the best lead in...

That isn't even Go On's normal timeslot. It's supposed to be on Tuesdays. But it was like NBC went "Oh, the return of The Voice gave you a huge increase in numbers on tuesday? Lets see how things go for you on thursday... where our comedies are doing so well these days."

And then NBC's decision making when it came to this, it's just... Christ, are they kindergartners?!

NBC’s Hannibal welcomed 4.3 million total viewers to the dinner table in its Thursday premiere, while netting a 1.6 rating — so, about smack dab in the middle between Do No Harm and Awake.

That said, the Bryan Fuller drama’s demo delivery marks a 60 percent improvement on NBC’s average in the time slot this season and its best Thursday-at-10 performance in more than a year (since March 15, 2012).

For comparison’s sake, NBC’s most recent scripted offerings in Thursday’s closer spot:
* Law & Order: SVU repeat: 4 million total viewers/1.0 demo rating
* Do No Harm premiere(/penultimate episode): 3.1 mil/0.9
* Awake premiere: 6.2 mil/2.0

Just watched it, loved it. Great dialogue, some nice little nods to Silence of The Lambs. Highlight has to be the relationship between Graham and Hannibal. My only gripe would be Agent Katz, she is annoying.

The preview that aired afterwards was very exciting.

Morpheus got a lot of weight....This is by design.
( I just started to watch the episode ).
Isn't the 8 victim the dancer in Flash Dance ???

As soon as Laurence Fishburne bagged Gina Torres he gained a bit of weight.

Well I hope the ratings hold or that a cable network picks up the second season, those are great numbers for cable.

This show will flounder on NBC. It will not survive there.

If nothing else, I hope it can survive the way Merlin did. It's an international show. Even if hasn't done that great here, as a result of the hand NBC dealt it, doesn't mean it won't do well elsewhere.

Good first episode. the acting is superb.

I hope NBC doesn't throw this away like they did awake. Wish it was on another network but lets just hope they are smart this time.

I'm torn on NBC. On one hand, they actually gave it a chance by picking it up to begin with, where the other networks probably would've passed on it. On the other hand, they piss away all that good will by sitting on it until April and giving it a horrible timeslot.

It's like... who the **** is making these decisions?

Finally caught the pilot. 5/5
I really enjoyed it: the writing, acting, and design - esp. the transitions/visuals for Will's P.O.V. -are top notch.

I was a little confused by the ending. Was Hannibal the Minnesota Shrike or his mentor? Were neither of them the imitator?

Just rewatched this episode and gained even more appreciation for what a multi-layered devious **** Hannibal is.

My interpretation of Hannibal's motives and agenda this episode:

- as Mikkelsen has alluded to in interviews, Hannibal's genius and sophistication is both a blessing and a curse. He feels so far above 99.9% of humanity that he's also lonely and feels like he can't connect with anyone, or can't find anyone he wants a connection with. In a slightly different way, this is also Will's dilemma, being unable to connect with people.

- In his first impression of him, Hannibal is intrigued by Will (almost, in an intellectual way, maybe a little "smitten"). He senses an intelligence and analytical brilliance that might be worthy of his own. But he has to put him through tests to make sure, manipulate Will into "proving himself" to him.

- He copycats Hobbs with the girl in the field, deliberately doing things "wrong" to test if Will is smart enough to tell it's a copycat. Will does, so Hannibal moves forward with the next "test".

- He warns Hobbs, in my opinion, for three reasons:

1. To test Will's mettle and see if he passes the test by making it out alive.

2. To force Will into a situation, facing a forewarned serial killer with hostages, where he is going to have no choice but to kill someone, pushing Will into taking that first step toward being more like Hannibal, because he wants Will's companionship.

3. Because he's a manipulative conniving **** with a god complex who amuses himself by moving people around like chess pieces and enjoys pitting agents against serial killers and seeing what happens for his own entertainment.

- On the scene, he is pleased to see that Will has taken a life, and also proud of him for "winning" and proving his worthiness, so he rewards him by stepping in and helping him save the girl's life.

As I understood it, Garrett Hobbs was the Shrike, but the copycat murder was Hannibal.

It was a test of Will's intelligence, to see if he was smart enough to tell the difference.

Other than that, Hannibal and Hobbs had nothing to do with each other.

I did not pick up on that, but it makes sense in hindsight. Intriguing.

He talked to Hannibal on the phone, maybe he just wondered where the guy who warned him was.

In the phonecall, Hannibal specifically said they didn't know each other.

Thanks for the answers. Really enjoyed this pilot. Mads was just brilliant casting. One episode and it has probably overtaken Bate's Motel as my favorite new show. Glad to have both though.

September 2011 was when news broke a show was in development, November 2011 when NBC bought the rights.
2011 Sawyer knew they would do something to **** it up.

The quality is top notch, so there's that, but the way they've handled things... :o
