What’s The Difference Between Dragon’s Crown’s Fighter, Amazon And Dwarf?. July 26, 2013 . 3:30pm

Wondering what the differences are between Dragon’s Crown’s Fighter, Amazon and Dwarf?

Atlus’ upcoming 2D fantasy action game, Dragon’s Crown, will feature six different characters, all with unique play styles. However, you may wonder the difference is between some of them, such as Fighter and Dwarf, or Wizard and Sorceress. Dengeki recently took the time to play about 10 hours of each character and summarized their notable features, along with their in-game stats.

* STR = Strength, CON = Physique, INT = Intelligence, MGR = Magic Resistance, DEX = Technique, LUC = Luck

Fighter
Recommended for beginners.
STR: S CON: A INT: D MGR: C DEX: B LUC: B

The Fighter is a balanced character with plenty of physical abilities to go with defense that can guard most attacks. He specializes in power and is an easy-to-use orthodox character. While he is recommended for beginners due to his simple actions, he has skills that can be used to protect his teammates, so he has plenty to offer players who prefer to play a tanking role.

In addition to being able to defend allies using his shield, he’ll also have other useful abilities such as “Attract,” which allows him to momentarily keep the enemy’s attention, and “Sacrifice,” a cover skill that allows him to take damage on behalf of his friends.

After playing as the Fighter, Dengeki felt a sense of freedom, as he can freely move around, hit with powerful attacks and defend himself from enemies; however, he lacks in long-ranged attacks, so most of his action will be face-to-face with his foes.

Amazon
Recommended for intermediate players.
STR: A CON: B INT: C MGR: C DEX: B LUC: A

According to Dengeki, the Amazon is a “Berserk” style character with continuous attacks. She boasts high power and the reach to go with it. By pulling off consecutive hits, you can activate a Berserk Mode of up to three stages that further increases her speed. Once it reaches its peak, her combo attacks will be much quicker; however, if you don’t keep attacking, she will revert back to normal.

In addition to having class skills that enhance the Amazon’s Berserk ability and support allies, she’ll also have the “War Paint” skill, which momentarily allows her to pull off multiple attacks, and the “Immortal” skill that boosts for a short while in exchange for some HP.

During their playthrough as the Amazon, Dengeki felt a sense of ease for doing aerial attacks. She also has the ability to to change direction from left and right for some attacks, making her a great character for crowd control. She is more of an offense-minded character, and lacks a little in the defense department, so you might need to play a hit-and-run style from time to time.

Dwarf
Recommended for intermediate players.
STR: S CON: S INT: E MGR: D DEX: C LUC: B

The Dwarf is a specialist when it comes to close-ranged combat, boasting excellent power in addition to an ability called “Pump Up” that allows him to increase his defense simply by holding down the square button. The fun part about playing as the Dwarf is being able to attack enemies without having to concern yourself much with their attacks.

His class skills come in many varieties, with effects such as increasing his attack and throwing moves, defense boost, ability to use bombs, and being able to add a fire-attribute to his attacks. He’s a versatile combatant with many skills that allows for various play styles.

His most powerful attacks are his grab moves. He can grab enemies that are on land or in the air, and can follow up by smashing them into other foes or exploding bombs on the ground upon impact, which can also be followed by further combos.

The only downside to the Dwarf’s powerful grab moves, is that it requires having to approach enemies, which isn’t always an easy task. A good tactic which most Dwarf players will be using is by starting out with “Pump Up” to increase defense, then grabbing enemies while taking less damage. This will often be followed by throwing them into a mob of enemies. According to Dengeki, the Dwarf was one of the most fun and offensive characters in the game.

Dragon’s Crown will be available on August 6th in North America from Atlus. NIS America will publish the game in Europe.

Dragon’s Crown’s Wizard And Sorceress Play Very Differently. July 28, 2013 . 2:00pm

Details of the Elf, Wizard and Soceress characters in Dragon’s Crown.

Dengeki magazine in Japan recently took the time to play about ten hours of Dragon’s Crown in Japan, and compiled a short set of notes with their thoughts on each of the game’s playable characters. On Friday, we covered their take on the Fighter, Amazon and Dwarf. Today, you can read about the Elf, Wizard and Sorceress.

Elf
Recommended for advanced players.
STR: B CON: C INT: B MGR: C DEX: A LUC: A

The Elf is considered a jack of all trades, as she excels at long-ranged combat with her bow, can dish out close-ranged melee combos, and can even perform some magic attacks. Her mobility is also very high and she can pull off many consecutive attacks; however, her power is considered a bit more on the lower side to balance it out.

A combination of the left analog stick and the circle button is used to aim her shots between ground and air. By holding down the circle button, you’ll be able to pull off a much stronger “Charge Shot” ability. As previously reported, her arrows are limited so you won’t be able to freely shoot as you will.

Most of her class skills consist of enhancements for her bow attacks, such as adding special effects like fire and poison attributes to arrows and multiple shots. Additionally, you can activate her “Dagger Option” skill that allows her to use daggers, along with their critical “Backstab” ability. Again, she can also use magic if you activate her “Elemental Roar” ability.

While she may be a little tough to use, Dengeki recommends the Elf for players who prefer plenty of action, which goes well with her speedy movements and long sliding maneuvers. Her bow attacks do the most damage of all her abilities, but you’ll have to use them sparingly due to their limitations, by using other styles to back it up.

Wizard
Recommended for advanced players.
STR: D CON: C INT: S MGR: A DEX: B LUC: D

The Wizard’s magic attacks are used by pressing the circle button. They use up MP, which depletes with every spell, but you’ll be able to recharge it by holding down the square button. You’ll also be able to do weaker attacks using the staff by pressing the square button against enemies, although this isn’t recommended. By holding down the circle button for magic, you’ll be able to do a much more powerful spell that uses up a higher amount of MP.

Skills such as “Create Golem” that spawns a golem out of a wooden box, and “Slow” that slows down enemy movements, will be making the Wizard a useful party member to have in the mix. His class skills mainly consist of abilities that enhance his MP charge and skills that grant access to various elemental spells.

According to Dengeki, Wizard players will most likely have to choose between enhancing the use of basic spells or balancing it out after learning various types to have a wide range of spells in your repertoire. They also mention how easy it is to use his spells, in addition to the useful teleportation ability, which came in very handy during boss fights.

Sorceress
Recommended for advanced players.
STR: E CON: D INT: A MGR: S DEX: B LUC: A

The Sorceress plays very similar to the Wizard, as they’re both characters based on magic. They have different stats, but their magic attack system and attacking methods are basically the same as one another. Their fighting style is also fairly close, so it’ll boil down to the player’s preference.

The biggest difference between the two mages is found in their set of class skills. While the Wizard focuses more on offensive spells, the Sorceress has support spells. Her “Protection” spell adds a protective layer of magic around allies, and she can also use “Curse,” which turns enemies into frogs.

The Sorceress has plenty of offensive spells; however, they’re not as powerful as the Wizard’s for the most part. In return, she makes up for it by having additional effects to her spells such as freezing and stun. She’ll also have support spells that can be used to recover the HP of party members, making her a valuable character to have in any party.

According to Dengeki, the most notable difference between Wizard and Sorceress was their evasive maneuvers. The Wizard has the ability to teleport, but the Sorceress’ “Levitation” ability allows her to gain distance from enemies while dodging attacks, and floating away at full speed. She can even attack from mid-air during levitation, giving her an edge in mobility over the Wizard.

Dragon’s Crown comes out for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on July 25 in Japan. Atlus USA will release the game in North America shortly after, on August 6. Meanwhile, NIS America will be publishing the game in Europe, but haven’t announced a date yet.

Dragon's Crown

Dragon's Crown ships 300K across first week in Japan

Dragon's Crown scaled to heights of 300,000 shipments in its first week at retail, a welcome boost for publisher Atlus amid the financial struggles of its parent company.

Those figures are restricted to Japanese shipments (including download purchases), and could rise dramatically after Tuesday, August 6, when the PS3 and Vita brawler will be available in North America. At the very least the game proved more than popular with our Danny, who deemed Dragon's Crown to be developer Vanillaware's best effort yet.

"While it scales back the complexity that defined Princess Crown and Odin Sphere," said Danny in his four-and-half-stars review, "its focus on deep, varied fighting mechanics make it one of the best beat-em-ups released for any platform in recent years."

As for Atlus, it'll wait to see how the situation with parent company Index shakes out. Index is expected to sell its subsidiary options after effectively filing for bankruptcy protection. Atlus has reassured fans that its games, including Dragon's Crown, are "shipping on time."

Yeah, I was thinking about doing a thread some time ago just never happened. I've ben looking on Twitch at some of the live streams to see the game in motion....Man, the stills DO NOT do this game justice. Also, every time I look on the stream, no one is using the male characters. This game is like a hyper Chronicles of Mystaria.

Every since I first layed eyes on it back in 2011 I knew this would be the game to get a PS3 for.

Can't imagine why not...

dragons-crown.jpg
I would just end this in a chuckle but soapy has it right on why . oh I know alot of people will love next year's E3 . and this look is more likely to be seen and allowed there then the Amazon. Cause they won't be thrown out of E3 for how they look cause of someone finding a reason to be uncomfortable. oh well. but that's another issue.

:hehe: An accurate cosplay of an Amazon would be something to see.. :hehe: I've seen a Fighter used twice so far and a Dwarf once. Still have yet to see a Wizard.
