love this fan made trailer that uses clips from the trailer but with the 95 film's opening theme played over it, gave me serious chills wow

now this is how you make a trailer.

If GITS was a better-known mainstream property, that would have been an awesome trailer. To get a non-anime audience to show up, I guess they had to go with one that explains more of the story.

hey, how about some gifs from the teaser, I could go for a new avatar ;)

hearing the 95 soundtrack with the live action birth scene made me cry
perfection, really loving what i've seen so far

I'm really looking forward to this. I think Scarlett is going to be great. I know that's not the popular opinion and I get people's reservations, but I'm not too bothered. Maybe it's because I'm fairly new to the franchise and a big Scarlett fan, so I may be a bit biased.

The trailer was okay, but the leaked (?) opening was enough to convince me to give the film a shot. Johansson isn't a great actress, and she came across as pretty wooden in the trailer, but I think there will be enough going on in the film to keep me interested and engaged.

Also: although I'm familiar with the anime, I've never seen a full episode of it.

The quality of and detail in those gifs. My God! Beautiful.

TBH, I've never found the Major to be a particularly "complex" character personality-wise. Now does she have pathos underneath, certainly. Is she a cool character, oh absolutely. But in terms of how she acts, expresses herself, it's pretty basic personality-types.

So watching this, I see nothing wrong with Scarlett's performance here (especially since a two minute trailer isn't the place that you're going to get a sense of said hidden pathos, that's not it's job).

Visually, this looks really good. Now we'll see how the story goes,

The Motoko of the manga and even S.A.C isn't as stoic as the Motoko of the animated movie. In the former, she has a much more expressive personality

She's not necessarily complex, but she is definitely very abstract. Much to her is contained in what is unstated and implied, rather than overtly revealed through dialogue or story.

Actually that's exactly my point. In all of the versions that I've seen, Motoko isn't the most overtly-expressive/emotional character. Now she's not un-emotional mind you, but she doesn't usually wear her feelings on her sleeve. Her character nuance, and there IS character nuance, is usually subtle and it's hidden more beneath the surface. As you say, understated and implied.

Which can be hard to really convey well in a trailer that's primarily there to sell the movie to a general audience. We'll have to wait and see the actual movie to see if they've gotten that aspect of her character down.

I don't think she should be overtly expressive/emotional. My favorite version is Oshii version and Johansson is too expressive with all her trademark smirks. Cold, detached, bossy, impulsive. And she should be contrasted by her colleagues. That's what I want to see and I can't see it so far.
