Motoko in the original movie adaptation looked very much Asian.
I disagree. Yes, she has dark hair but that's about it. Her eyes are round, not almond shaped. And her body type is very much not a typical Asian female. The Major is fairly tall and a bit curvy. Asian women are generally neither of those.
