Fantasy Dungeons & dragons movie discussion

Well I have to admit, I have not sat down to watch a single episode myself.
So I will take your word for it.
I was shocked the numbers in terms of ratings it did according to Netflix.
I was too. Looks like their tactic worked.

At least the writer and the game studio made good cash on it too, thanks to the success of the show.

There are so many fantasy series, D&D included, that can be adapted.
Even though it started as a RPG (in 1974 according to the internet) some of the novels based on the D&D worlds would be where I look to get some story ideas from.
Dragonlance & Ravencroft to name a few.

To be fair, a lot of them are being adapted. Discworld, lord of the rings, Witcher etc. it’s the new gold rush

Didn't know Discworld is being adapted. Interesting.

CASTLE RAVENLOFT IS DUNGEONS & DRAGONS at its very best.
Maybe not the 1 they want to start it off with but.....certainly a spin off world like the Star Trek series of the late 80s & early 90s did.

Does your vision for Dungeons & Dragons feel like a natural evolution for you in terms of the humor you've put into recent projects like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night?

Goldstein: We want it to be fun. It's not an out and out comedy, but it is an action-fantasy movie with a lot of comedic elements and characters we hope people will really get into and enjoy watching their adventures.

Daley: D&D is such a unique look at the fantasy genre where it is contemporary in terms of the people playing it and the way they speak to each other. So we never wanted to spoof the genre of fantasy or take the piss out of it. But we did want to find another way into it that we hadn't necessarily seen before. Just the format of Dungeons & Dragons is so interesting and fun and all about critical thinking and thinking on your feet and figuring out ways to make things work after they fall flat. There's a lot of the spirit of that that we're trying to inject into the movie itself.

You almost need two adaptions. One for the people who think they’re reliving lord of the rings and one for the people who have played before and know it always ends up with someone tripping over their shoes and waking an orc that kills everyone

"Let's go to this underground ruins to kill a bunch of goblins. Oh...their leader is a giant ogre who we just woke up."

Kumo Kagyu basically wrote the perfect D&D adaptation with Goblin Slayer...not official of course.

Holy c*w!
Talk about overkill!
Quite like the Witcher series watched a couple of episodes so far.

Any word on the story on the new movie or is it too early for that yet?

Ah nice, this could be higher profile than I thought then.

They're either going with the original tabletop and making him a random lead hero or adapting the cartoon and making him an older Hank, lol.

Just curious. Rather than D&D, why not adapt some of the existing worlds and scenarios within D&D that have popular book series, like Drizzt.

But you know the thing I like about Goblin Slayer, the creator actually wrote tabletop and gameplay conventions into the story. For example, spellcasters can only use a limited number of spells per day before the refresh. Adventurers have to fight monsters and complete quests to gain experience and "level up." Ones who have access to magic can eventually be granted new magic and spells or miracles. DanMachi has similar ideas.

But Goblin Slayer even uses creatures from D&D like the Beholder. Whenever monsters have unique attributes or protection, Goblin Slayer always thinks of creative ways to get around them.

Oh wow. WOW WOW WOW. I'll watch Pine in anything, and there's no way in hell this could ever be worse than the Marlon Wayans and Jeremy Irons crapfest from the early 2000s, so this has me excited.

Any speculation on who Chris is playing? I hope this goes into the Forgotten Realms stuff and we see a Drizzt or Artemis appearance, though that stuff will probably appear in sequels if they happen.
