E3 2014 - Part 1

Both conference were solid, but I found it a bit annoying to keep track of what was exclusive and what wasn't. Sony made it seem like GTA5 was gonna be PS4 exclusive, but I found out after that that's not the case at all.

It makes me wonder about all their other exclusive stuff like the Arkham Knight DLC. Is it actually an official exclusive or just a timed exclusive like all the Xbox One stuff?

Cross-platform console exclusive DLC is infuriating IMO. I don't care if it's timed exclusive, but I mean, come on...it's pretty annoying that I won't get to experience the full Arkham Knight because I don't own PS4.

Well, I think MS did a better job in letting us know what was exclusive, because I saw a lot of "Only on Xbox One" labels.

didn't really see that from Sony.

mind you....I watched with the sound off, so I don't know what was actually said during the presentation.

As for console exclusive content, I'm a bit miffed by the X1 getting timed exclusive content for Dragon Age, as I've already got that preordered and paid off for the PS4.

however, if it's just timed exclusivity, and that's only for a month or so, I can live with that.

as for who had the better presentation, I think overall MS had the better presentation because it was focused on Games, Games, Games, GAMES!!

Sony kind of dragged in the middle there.

However, as to which has my interests, I still give that edge to Sony.

The Sony exclusives that were shown ( Last of Us, Order, Bloodborne, Infamous DLC, Uncharted ) interest me FAR MORE than any of the MS exclusives.

And, it did seem to me that most of the X1 exclusives MS showed, with the exception of the Halo stuff, seemed to be more on the "cartoonish" side in terms of art/visual design.

Sunset Overdrive, Fables Legends, Project Spark, etc.

No a real Zelda game for the Wii U.

a real Zelda game for the Wii U would certainly be welcome.

but, the question is, would it come too late to save the console?

guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Thissssssssssss.

I have an Xbone and I love it, but I'm admittedly green with envy right now over the PS4 exclusives announced compared to the Xbone exclusives. Sunset Overdrive looks cool and stuff, but god the PS4 titles look unreal. Like mature SP titles. The Order had me like this: :hubba

I'm not into Halo or Crackdown at all, personally, so those announcements were a bust for me.

also Little Big Planet 3 for people who are into that. ( I'm not )

what they showed of the Order made it feel more like a Resident Evil type horror game. at least that little bit.

2015 is going to have some big names.

in that respect, I'm kind of glad they held off on God of War.

got to save some stuff for next year's E3. :cwink:

although the total lack of FF XV still has me depressed........:csad:

If that or Last Guardians aren't there next year in substantial form ( beyond mere teaser trailers ), then..................

Sony is not gonna advertise at their show "Also available on the XBOX One" Microsoft does the same thing when they announce multiplats. Its just common sense

ok. just actually watched the Bloodborne trailer in full, with sound.

HOLY ****!!!! :wow:

hope it is like Demon and Dark Souls where you can create your own character.

love the change of setting. very Victorianesque.

Obviously I don't expect them to say "Also on Xbox One" lol.

But I don't recall MS saying anything like "We are pleased to announce The Witcher 3 on XBOX One!" as though it wasn't coming to PS4. Same for Dragon Age, The Division, etc. They just said "...with DLC available first on Xbox One."

Whereas PS4 was like: "GTA5, coming soon to Playstation 4!" as though it was an exclusive. I dunno, just thought it was hard to keep track and a bit misleading.

Both consoles have some fantastic games coming out. It'll be a really interesting year.

Major Nelson tweeted that GTA V was coming to XBox One this fall.

My favorite conference was Sony's. While most of the games weren't exclusives, their previews were ace; less trailers, more mechanics. Their only dead zone was the TV and movie lip service. Micosoft's came close, and outdid their last E3 by miles. Problem is, they padded their run time with vague early looks. Hyping up prototypes comes off as desperate. Ubisoft tried like they do every year, and like every year, most of it feel flat.

Speaking of dead zones, the entire EA conference qualifies as one. Something's wrong when you have to clap to encourage applause.

Microsoft had a great conference - especially after last year's **** show.

I was expected more from Sony and was pretty disappointed. Oh well, looks like I'll be getting an XBone this holiday season!

For me Sony's conference started strong. It dragged a little (especially with such time devoted to LBP3), but solid. Then in the middle it dragged. A lot of people liked the letters thing, but I thought it was kind of dumb. It just amounted to more yak-yak.

And, as much as I love Powers and am glad it's finally getting made into a TV series after so long, I have absolutely no idea why that was there. At least with the R&C movie there was an announcement of a remake of the original game. That had to be the most random thing I've seen.

It picked back up again once we got back to game trailers, but I don't know, that lag in the middle kind of killed it for me. As much as I liked what I saw of MKX and Arkham Knight, I was out of it. UC4 teaser was good, though.

Probably biggest highlights for me was getting confirmation that PS Now would include 3rd party titles and that the Vita TV (PS TV) is finally coming outside Japan.

They showed quite a lot of LBP3 footage. They had a gameplay sequence that lasted about, I dunno, 10 minutes, along with a trailer.

Wow! How did it look? Can't wait to see this! is this in 2d like LBP and LBP 2? Is it gorgeous?

Yeah it looks like a prettier version of LBP2, which I don't think is a bad thing. The basic game design is on a 2D plane, but it looks like there is some 3D elements

One thing I found out after the show was that Media Molecule isn't doing it. I thought they were lying about not being at the show so I take that back.

heres the trailer

Thank you for the link!

Wow, it does look really great. I played a ton of hours of LBP and LBP 2 with my wife, and she's really happy about this announcment... and her birthday is in november... Looks like the perfect birthday gift!

Those new sack characters look awesome. Can't wait to try this one!

This is one of the reasons I really lost interest in the Sony conference. I've never understood the appeal to LBP. It's too juvenile for my taste and I feel like it's a mainstream title trying to be "indie". It's like when designers started to sell ripped jeans and flannel for $100 back when grunge was popular. That style of clothing became popular because people who started the grunge movement in San Fran area bought clothing from second hand stores which had clothing from local workers - not because it was "cool". It became "cool" because it was interesting.

Here, dev's are going "hmm... it seems people like how these indie titles are quirky sidescrollers, lets make the weirdest **** game and make it a side scroller. Throw in some flashy colours and some "whiz"s and "bang"s" and it sold.
