E3 2014 - Part 1

This is one of the reasons I really lost interest in the Sony conference. I've never understood the appeal to LBP. It's too juvenile for my taste and I feel like it's a mainstream title trying to be "indie". It's like when designers started to sell ripped jeans and flannel for $100 back when grunge was popular. That style of clothing became popular because people who started the grunge movement in San Fran area bought clothing from second hand stores which had clothing from local workers - not because it was "cool". It became "cool" because it was interesting.

Here, dev's are going "hmm... it seems people like how these indie titles are quirky sidescrollers, lets make the weirdest **** game and make it a side scroller. Throw in some flashy colours and some "whiz"s and "bang"s" and it sold.
The time spent on LBP was deserved. Trust and believe it is one of their BIGGEST IPs. The series sells better than Infamous, Resistance, Killzone, etc... Seriously the only Sony franchises that do better are Gran Turismo and the Naughty Dog games. Its the second best selling Vita game and at the top of the charts for both PS3 and PSP. They likely have a guaranteed multimillion seller with LBP3. It has a VERY active community and is a cash cow for Sony. Them showcasing it the way they did, letting people know its coming soon and what to expect was probably one of the better parts of that show. You may not get it, but its huge

I'd say Sony was best of the show. But I understand that's totally just my personal taste. Microsoft did great too though... Nintendo isn't even on my radar.

Yeah it looks like a prettier version of LBP2, which I don't think is a bad thing. The basic game design is on a 2D plane, but it looks like there is some 3D elements

One thing I found out after the show was that Media Molecule isn't doing it. I thought they were lying about not being at the show so I take that back.

heres the trailer

This is why I'm more of a fan of Sony that Microsoft. The gaming experience is just so different between the two systems. The two systems tend to appeal to very different types of gamers when it comes to exclusives. Which is why the Xbox experience never appealed to me I guess...

I had both a xbox360 and a ps3, and the sony exclusives made all the difference to me, to the point that I never gave a thought about the xbox one. I knew since day one I was gonna buy a ps4. LBP is such an amazing experience, especially when you play with someone, or when you create or level.... it's simply incredible.

With that price drop and the Kinect now optional I suspect more will be swayed since each company has its own fanboys full of fervor.

Nobody wants to use Kinect among programers. which was to be expected. That said, I had a great time with my 360, and some exclusives are really good on xbox one. But I don't regret chosing sony at all.

If I were still trying to decide between the PS4 or X1, MS didn't really show anything yesterday to convince me that I NEED to buy an X1 this holiday.

whereas Sony, with stuff like The Order, Bloodborne, Uncharted, Infamous, etc., would have further pushed me towards getting a PS4.

ironically, the thing that could have pushed me most towards the X1 would have been if they announced Dragon Age was getting actual exclusive content for the X1 ( like the PS4 is getting with Arkham Knight ). not just timed exclusive for the 1st DLC content.

and that's simply because DA is the one game I'm looking most forward, too.

or if something like Witcher 3 were an X1 exclusive.

oh, and didn't see this posted, but The Order's release date is Feb 20, 2015.

so Feb is going to be a good month with Order and Witcher!!

I think the Order looks boring as all hell. Great.. Steampunk Gears. Awesome.

I think Sunset Overdrive blew a LOT of these games away. More so with the way it poked fun at the stupid cover and pew pew ones.

So which streams will everyone be looking at today?,Each site has their own schedules and so it'll be different for everyone,I'll be using PS4's E3 app and maybe IGN again

I like the IGN crew except Greggy, usually can't stand him but rest are cool

Greg makes me LOL.. Mostly because he's so blunt with the Internet fanboy crowd. I love how he either ignores them (which drives them insane) or makes them look stupid.

I don't see what looks so great about Sunset Overdrive. I hate the Visual style not because it's cartoony but because it's simply ugly IMO. The gameplay looks like something that's fun for about 10 minutes. The enemy designs are some of the most boring ones I've seen. Also, Insomniac is not one of my favourite studios to be honest. I loved the old Spyro and I've Heard some of the R&C games are good but I've never felt attached to their ideas besides that.

I have been and still am very skeptical towards The Order 1886 but the E3 presentation made me more interested in it. Way more than Sunset Overdrive or any of the Xbox exclusives. I love how atmospheric The Order looks to be. What's holding me back is that they've yet to prove that the gameplay actually will do it justice. It doesn't need to be revolutionary though. Killzone 2 is one of the best shooters out there and it didn't do much new really besides being extremely good at what it did.

Microsoft did a better presentation but Sony looks to have much better exclusives IMO.

I'm bummed though that we didn't get to see anything from the next God of War.

I was pleasnatly surprised by the amount of PS4/X1 only games shown. Yes, its past time to leave the PS3 and 360 behind. They shouldnt be pushing for that past in 2015 and beyond

Greg is the best one. I like him the best bc he seems like a pretty nice guy and knows his stuff. If there is anyone that irks me its Colin. I respect him but he comes across as such an unapologetic a-hole which is off putting.

It looks... Ridiculously fun. If you don't like the art style did you also dislike the style of Ratchet and Clank..? Or Jak? Games don't all have to be dark and brooding They can be light and fun. The Order to me just screams "look at our purdy grafix!"

The game play will be the same boring and stale Gears of War type stuff I was tired of after the first Gears.

Agreed!

It's a matter of different opinions, simply. To me, it does not look ridiculously fun. It looks like something mindless that might be fun for a short while. I take a game with great characters and story Before that, and while it's too early to judge (just like with The Order), nothing of that in SO has attracted my attention at all.

Yes, The Order 1886 so far looks pretty stale gameplay wise. But so would a game like Killzone 2 look as well. The Order 1886 looks like it will have an interesting story with cool characters, which Sunset Overdrive looks like it won't

In my opinion. As I said, it's a matter of different taste.

Also, I think it's funny how you judge me as someone who only wants "dark and broody" in Everything simply because I don't like how Sunset Overdrive looks. I love me some light hearted stuff, but from what I've seen, Sunset Overdrive doesn't hit the right spots. It looks light hearted without heart.

I'm a huge fan of the first Crash Bandicoot games for instance, so I can definitely appreciate light hearted and cartoony games. EDIT: The Super Mario games are other prime examples of that.

I agree...it was the PS4 for me. NO contest.

I'm sure the 5 people that like the Wii U were stoked too.

WiiU's show was great actually.. I don't have one but WILL be buying one for open world Legend of Zelda.. if that trailer didn't excite you.. You've outgrown video games. (Not you in particular. Just making a statement.)

Where did I judge you? I made a statement that games don't have to be dark a broody.. Which is true. The vast majority of gamers ignore anything that isn't dark.

OK! Yes that is true.

At the end of the day this E3 made me glad I own both a PS4 and XB1.. and also made me decide to go get an WiiU.

I have none of those yet but I plan on getting a PS4. Not that I wouldn't gladly own an Xbox One. But I have to play Uncharted 4 and the upcoming God of War. Those are must buys for me.
