YES! So awesome to see those numbers. I knew this movie was going to make records. I can't wait to see what this ends up doing for OW. If any movie deserves this much praise and good WOM it is def this one!

What records? August records? Because that is the only records it really has in its sights. Just be happy with the great first number. Though remembers guys and gals, it is a little skewed because of the 7pm showings. So it probably won't get to TWS numbers opening weekend numbers, but $80m plus is looking good. Also, heavy on the 3D, at least where I live.

With midnight numbers like that, $200 M domestically seems to be the floor, instead of the ceiling.

This was the best year in Marvel Studios history, artistically. Yes 2013, and maybe even 2012 will prove to be more successful financially, but this year they took on two disparate genres, Space Opera and Spy Thriller, and made classic films in both.

Great point, Kang. My personal wish is for Thor 3 to do the same as a fantasy film.

CA2 had 8 pm showings so its almost the same thing. Also this isn't a sequel and it has no Avengers characters. I think this could make over 90 million OW.

Obviously it's not going to be the biggest franchise of all time haha, I have my expectations curbed a little less than that. I predicted months ago that this would break the OW August record and many said it wouldn't happen and I was being a MCU fanboy with pipe dreams so I'm glad what I knew was going to happen happened.

It could make over $100m. But the numbers so far don't dictate it.

Also there is a big difference between 8pm and 7pm. At my theater alone, there was 6 showings combined at 7pm and 7:30pm. Heck just look at the difference between TWS and Transformers 4. TWS did a lot more opening at 8pm then 9pm. But Transformers 4 took the weekend.

It should break the OW numbers. It has 3D and large formats, plus 7 years on Bourne. What is nice is it is looking like it will breeze past $70m, and is now looking at $80m easily.

I've had faith since this was announced. I knew Gunn and Pratt would deliver something special. I remember how many said it would fail because of whatever reasons and I knew this would break out. So many called me a blind MCU fanboy but I have a sixth sense about what the GA will love. I think it comes from my ability to dj and find tracks people have never heard of that they love. I'm glad all the haters have to eat crow now

What is this actually tracking at? Around 80 million? I imagine this will have great WOM too so minimal drops.

If it makes 80 million US, what are the chances of it clearing 200 million world wide this weekend? If it does that we gotta be looking at at least 550-600 right?

From what I saw of my theater last night that Thursday number isn't shocking. The theaters were even more packed than CAP:TWS's opening but I'm thinking that had more to do with Cap being released in April when kids were still in school.
