Sci-Fi Edge of Tomorrow - Part 1

The ending for the first film doesn't even make sense. No need to open up the can of worms again.

Furthermore, the movie made $375 million worldwide -- and it cost upwards of $200M (with P&A costs) -- and it's still likely in the red. While Cruise, McQuarrie and Liman might be up for it, it's a financial question mark for WB.

The movie would have to do fantastic business from ancillaries like Batman Begins and Pitch Perfect did in order for a sequel to be greenlit.

Well, it must have for them to be talking about it, otherwise they wouldn't even be doing that. Not saying it definitely will get made, but it certainly seems to be on the table.

I'll wait until WB announces a date, title and production start. They'll likely want to make a EOT sequel for a lower price too.

If Cruise and Liman have a good idea for a follow-up, they could do it. But only if the script is as good or better.

You could do a knockoff of Jet Li's a The One where now they Tom has Omega level powers, there's an evil version of him out there killing all the other Tom's who have similar powers.

Same here, I certainly wont count this sequel as a given, but with Cruise, Liman, McQuarrie and Blunt on board if it does happen I am more than willing to give it a chance.

For those people who expect a sequel to be like Starship Troopers, well, the first movie had its fair share of soldiers shooting up aliens during Cage's numerous 'resets' and during the last 20-30 minutes. And another alien invasion? It seems redundant.

I love that Cruise, McQuarrie and Liman want to revisit the film's characters -- Cage, Rita, and J-Squad are flat-out awesome -- but where would the story go?

From that whole thing, doesn't sound like a sequel is a sure thing.

It seems like Cruise's idea for a EOT sequel weighs heavily on Emily Blunt returning -- good, since she was awesome and integral to it working so well. If she doesn't want to do it... no sequel.

Maybe Cruise should turn his EOT sequel idea into a full-fledged treatment and see how Blunt, Liman and McQuarrie respond then.

McQuarrie Talks "Edge of Tomorrow 2," MI6

With "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week, the film's writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has done some press rounds to talk about the reception to his acclaimed work on that fifth entry in the action franchise.
During an interview with Collider, he was asked about both his preparations on the sixth installment as well as his work on the follow-up to one of Tom Cruise's other recently acclaimed works which McQuarrie wrote - "Edge of Tomorrow".
At last report, Cruise had an idea for a sequel to the essentially self-contained "Edge of Tomorrow" which he pitched to McQuarrie, director Doug Liman and co-star Emily Blunt. Both McQuarrie and Blunt later said they were quite impressed with the pitch. Now, it seems things have progressed with McQuarrie saying this week: "We have the idea for the sequel locked and loaded... I don't know what I can say. I can only say it's a going concern."
McQuarrie's attention right now is mostly focused on the next 'Mission' with the pressure on him to top his previous film: "Look, we definitely have to raise the bar, we've got to do that every time. And we have an idea for one sequence in particular and it's one we're very, very excited about. It's going to be incredibly challenging to do, and we're very excited."
That sequence is speculated to be a sequence originally designed for 'Rogue Nation' that they decided not to use but hoped to revisit in a future chapter. The scene involved Ethan Hunt being trapped in the middle of a glass corridor walkway between skyscrapers as enemies close from either side. He would then use the glass breaking device from 'Rogue Nation' to shatter the entire bridge.

Loved the first film. No need for a sequel.

First film was fantastic. I agree there is no need for a sequel, but with McQuarrie and Liman involved I would be there opening day if we get one. That's not to mention Cruise and Blunt!

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Sequel Finds Its Scribes http://deadline.com/2016/04/tom-cruise-the-edge-of-tomorrow-sequel-joe-shrapnel-anna-w-1201733530/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse have been tapped to write the sequel to Tom Cruise and Doug Liman’s sci-fi sleeper hit The Edge of Tomorrow. The original film, also starring a buffed up Emily Blunt, was a guilty pleasure for many genre fans with its time-bending narrative and stylish chemistry between its two leads. Though a slow opener domestically, it eventually hit $100 million in the U.S.. More importantly, it was a bone fide smash internationally, grossing a further $270 million or so to make the case for a sequel pretty compelling. The original seemed to square up any loose ends pretty efficiently, though, so Shrapnel and Waterhouse will have to be inventive to find a way to get Blunt back in the mix with Cruise. Christopher McQuarrie is attached to direct.

The two writers are much in-demand. After getting their first proper feature produced this year with the Jesse Owens biopic Race, Shrapnel and Whitehouse were brought on to do a rewrite of The Gray Man, based on the novel by Mark Greaney, at Sony. Mcquarrie is also set to direct this one with Charlize Theron attached to star. Theron’s Denver and Delilah label is also aboard as producers alongside Joe Roth.
The duo also adapted Circle Of Treason, based on a book by CIA agents Sandy Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille about their pursuit of fellow CIA agent and traitor Aldrich Ames. That project has had Joel Edgerton circling to direct for some time although no deal has been done yet.
Shrapnel and Waterhouse have also adapted Rhidian Brook’s The Aftermath for Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and BBC Films.

Great stuff, never in a million years did I think this would get a sequel. So happy it eventually found an audience.

Hopefully they don't just call it Edge of Tomorrow 2.

Or Edge of 2morrow.

Or 2 Edges of Tomorrow.

Perhaps since it's officially in development, it's probably one of the 'Untitled Event Film' titles slated. I'd wager it's the March 2018 one.

I am definitely interested in sequel if both Cruise and Blunt are coming back. I would be hyped if Doug Liman directed it, but I guess he is busy with Gambit. McQuarrie did write Edge of Tommorow and both last MI which I really liked, even direct it. And he will write and direct also next one. Seems he work alot with Cruise so I am not doubting we will get good movie performance.

I really hope sequel would be called 'All you need is kill', but I guess they will go with either Live Die Repeat 2 or Edge of Tommorow 2.

McQuarrie said while he is involved with Edge of Tomorrow 2, he is not directing or co-writing it (he likely recommended the writers to WB, since they did a draft for a movie he's directing with Charlize Theron). He said Doug Liman will direct.

While Liman does have Gambit and that film he's doing for Amazon, that doesn't mean they'll go through.

Yeah, no sequel please. I loved the first. If they do another then it should be a prequel where Emily Blunt's character gains and then looses the re-set time ability. The way Cruise would fit in would likely be in a non-combat role as he was the PR guy at the beginning of the movie.

I'm not entirely sure this film is necessary, but at least everyone involved puts in great work.

Oh God, my friend just pitched the best EoT sequel ever:

Edge of 2Morrow starring Peter Dinkladge with the tagline LIVE-PETE DIE RE-PETE
