Sci-Fi Edge of Tomorrow - Part 1

I personally feel the opposite with Bourne movies, I thought they got worse as they went on, I found Ultimatum a bit disappointing really, and still find the 1st to be the best, slightly edging out Supremacy.

That is surprising. I loved all three of them, but I thought the evolution was very clear.

Anyway, it's interesting that Liman will make the Splinter Cell film (right?). And that is because Splinter Cell Blacklist is the closest thing I've ever been of playing Jason Bourne, not to metion I'm pretty sure Conviction was influenced by the Bourne game. Just things coming around.

... I think I'll watch Egde of Tomorrow again now.

In fairness, the 1st 3 are that good that i'm not surprised when anyone choosing any of them as their best, just IMO I have never found any of them to be better than the 1st.

I missed out on seeing this on the big screen, but I finally watched it last night.

Incredible! Emily Blunt is perfect, amazing, gorgeous... I can go on and on. :hrt:

^Not to mention Rita's buster sword is similar to Clouds, though not as big obviously.

Yeah, true! So much of this movie seemed to nod to JRPGs and popular FPS games. It's a shame this didn't get great traction, because it's probably one of the best novel Sci-Fi movies to come out in quite some time.

I thought the fact that the "reload" process was shown regularly was another big nod to video games. In most Sci-Fi/Action movies the protagonist magically has infinite ammo in his 12 shot pistol, and only reloads as a mechanism to allow something else to happen (gun gets knocked out of his hands, he gets shot, etc).

I watched it again and I think I like it even more now. Such a fantastic film. Three things:

Doug Liman: He did a amazing job with this film in everywhere that matters, but above all, it's incredible how well he uses the respawn mechanic to tell the story in a very creative and fun way. This is something that has been brought up by many people, but I'm just impressed how well he did it. It feels like this was his third try you know? Like he experimented in two films to finally get it right in the third.

Tom Cruise/Cage: I've seen a few interviews with Doug, Blunt and/or him about this film and it is pretty clear how important Cruise was to this film. He spent two months helping design the exosuits for example, before all other actors got there and I think it was him that handpicked Blunt for the role. Not to mention his amazing performance. Besides all that, you have a great character with a fantastic arc.

Emily Blunt/Rita Vrataski: Now to my favorite part of it all. I dare say Rita Vrataski is the best female action hero I've ever seen in a film. She has it all. Not only she is unbelievable amazing fighting but she is also a human being with a great backstory. And that wouldn't come to be if you didn't have Emily Blunt absolutely nailing the character. What a incredible work.

With all that said, I truly hope this film get some boost from DVD/Blu-Ray sales. I'm not sure a sequel/prequel is possible or even should be done, but this film is an extraordinary one and many other films can take some hints from it.

I'm glad I saw it in the theaters, it was incredible.

I still need to see it again.

I too watched it last night. I thought it was fricking incredible.

Yeah, it was just a very well directed movie, would love to see Liman tackle an FF7 movie!

I actually want Liman to helm the new Power Rangers.

Okay.... Maybe this is crazy talk, but... Liman for the WONDER WOMAN movie?

That would be awesome.

Something about the scope and production design the film had said to me "maybe this is the guy to pull WW off". The beach assault scenes and the finale especially.

Liman for Wonder Woman? Great idea! Liman for The Flash? Even better! See Jumper!

Yes! I thought about it. As I said, Rita is one of the best action female characters off them all. It would be interesting to see his take on Wondie.

Personally my dream directors are Del Toro if they go for an Azzarello style film or Liman to a more "grounded" one.

WB will probably get Zack Snyder for Flash and Wonder Woman at this rate.

Snyder has been doing every DC character so far.

He made one film, he's making one more and he's tackling JL. Is that "everything"? Is he doing the Hellblazer show, Gotham and Arrow too? Is he attached to any other film in the rumored slate we heard about? He and Deborah will EP WW as a solo and he may have some input as to how it might affect future DCCU films he may be involved in.

Watched this again on BD, its even better 2nd time around, I think this will be one of those movies that rewards repeat viewings, as I saw loads of things I missed 1st time, and probably still missed plenty.

Liman really is an awesome director, and I hope we see him on a CBM one day, though it'll most likely be a DC one as Marvel dont tend to work with someone like him.

Also, I didnt know Guillermo Del Toro was a specialist visual consultant on the movie, just noticed it in the credits last night.

Did this make a profit at the box office? I hope so. So many ppl missed a great theater experience with this.

Domestic: $100,206,256 27.1%
+ Foreign: $269,000,000 72.9%
= Worldwide: $369,206,256

This was pretty cool. The ending though.... its like the editor accidentally cut a scene and forgot to put it back.
